So, I gather that if I make an up vote, but the curation reward ends up being worth less than the equivalent of .001 Steem, then it is rounded down and I don't get rewarded at all. What is the motivation then to up vote something that I like but hasn't received much attention or a whale vote? I guess giving the person a penny's worth is the only reward then?

Use it as a like button. Spread the love - make upvoting contagious. It doesn't matter the amount. That's the best part of having a few cents or less, in terms of voting power. You don't have to overthink it.

and yes good and improved posts get more upvotes. but I am not a good writer and blogger. I am just a trader . but I still try to write interesting questions to get upvotes.

That's good too... Comments can get paid as well.
663  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit how can this thing be workable long term? on: July 23, 2016, 02:24:12 AM

Chillax... it's like everyone writes their stuff and they'll make mistakes, and they'll have wrong views, etc etc. And they may get upvoted, downvoted, whatever. Don't allow posts to get under your skin because that's when it turns into physical imbalance. It's not worth the stress.
664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Steemit Upvote Exchange - Upvote me and I'll Upvote you. on: July 22, 2016, 11:55:14 PM
Hello folks.

well, I've joined steem 2 months ago. but I didn't take it seriously. because I didn't believe that I can earn money with just posting.

2 month before I earned 2.8$ just for 6 upvotes.(unfortunately I've only posted 2 posts two months ago and left the steem because I thought it is just none sense) but today I just earned 0.03$ for 6 upvotes.

You can imagine how much earning was that time. and getting upvotes was also very easy that times because there wasn't so many registered members.

but not the situation is not same. steem is full of thousands of trending posts and a person like me who don't know how to write and what to right have no chance to get enough upvotes to make some bucks.

so I've planed to Start an Upvote Exchange service.

You Have to Upvote my Posts if you need me to Upvote yours.

My Steem Handle: https://steemit.com/@ardenyham
Steem Power: 25.858$

My Posts:
1: https://steemit.com/investment/@ardenyham/earned-5-bitcoin-in-2-week-in-investing-altcoin-crypto-currency
2: https://steemit.com/steem/@ardenyham/is-steem-legit
3: https://steemit.com/altcoin/@ardenyham/who-believe-on-cloudmining

Upvote my Posts and Posts your posts here which you want me to upvote
I'll only Upvote 3 posts per user.

Regards.

The incentives for collusion are weird. I mean if one has a vote worth 1 cent and your vote is worth 0.1 cent, what would he get with your vote? It's not in his interest to spend it to you. And if you spend your 0.1 cent to someone smaller that gives you back 0.01 cent, then it's not good for you.

You are a legendary poster in btctalk, which means you write often. Just use your energy to post and comment intelligently and you'll make far more money.

If they are selling: "Oh they are dumping! They are cashing out"

If they aren't selling: "Oh they are pumping the price through artificial liquidity shortage because they control all the coins! Bastards!"

...so no matter what they do they will get criticism.

rekt

Which part is rekt?   I understand that you have a tendency to get stuck on  short term price movements, and all of us should be ready for the possibility of $610 and even sub $610, but it is likely going to take quite a few coins to get there, if it does.  Further, you recall that in the past nearly two months, we have only revisited sub $600 for about 24 hours, and recall how many coins it took to get to $540 for short moments... We could get there again, but it seems to me that it is going to take a lot of coins, and I question whether bears have enough coins to dump and if they can be successful.. with the ongoing upwards price pressures.

i agree. the thing is we are missing a clear positive outlook, an event that a rally could potentially build upon. halvening? gone. brexit? gone. so all thats left is the still lurking debate about blocksize and thats it. but on the other hand the 3d chart looks still quite excellent...

The halvening is gone but the reduced coin supply remains. A year from now, we'll have -650k coins fewer than we'd have without the halvening. So...
667  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit how can this thing be workable long term? on: July 22, 2016, 11:23:58 PM
Whales will become totally irrelevant when the user base and posting volume increases by 10x or 100x or even 1000x. There just aren't that many whales and whales have the same voting power restrictions as anyone else. A rare whale sighting will be a big deal.

You presume all whales are benevolent. Stake will eventually end up in a power-law distribution, because perpetual 100% debasement is not sustainable (even the transactions fees of the entire earth could not support it).

Also it is incorrect to say they play by the same rules. 3 x 3 = 9 is not 1/2 of 6 x 6 = 36.

Any way, I have proposed a partial solution.

By voting power I was referring to the declining weight according to frequency of votes placed. Just like anyone else, whales can only make about 40 votes per day without depleting their voting power. So with millions of posts and comments and a handful of whales making at most 40 votes per day each, do the math.

Seems there'll* be a fix for that:

What's going on? Shocked

It's called a 2.5% profit opportunity.

Buy there, sell at 665.99 Cheesy
Told you to wait, but nooo... You knew better.

It did go from 648 to 656 (rebounding 8$) - stopping midway to 666.

In any case, all these are tiny moves. The power of 666 is strong Cool

So, liquidity incentives look like they may go bye bye. That frees up $95,040 a day. What would be a better use of this money?

Even by their non-use, they are "used" to support the price better - compared to having a lot of dumping pressure.

Thank you price dumper. House sale money all converted finally after a month and a half voyage from check to bitcoins.

Good stuff... keep the BTCs safe.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentration_of_media_ownership

The Steemit system ensures viewers will in the not too distant future see a front page of either advertising or government sponsored political propaganda & views not supported by the largest corporate/political interests will be buried.

Assuming it survives to that stage this process will alienate users and freedom minded contributors. This was the downfall of Digg and also one of the reasons Reddit has had user revolts recently.

If steem collapses in value, then obviously nobody wants its tokens (including governments, corporations, media etc).

If governments, corporations and media want the tokens (to control the platform's content) then there is demand for the token and the price can't crumble.

It's kind of either this or that - both can't happen at the same time due to the rules of market demand.

How do I downvote comments and posts on Steemit Huh

There's a flag icon on the upper right.
673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit how can this thing be workable long term? on: July 21, 2016, 10:51:58 PM
That's interesting: https://steemit.com/money/@jl777/steem-price-might-double-next-week-liquidity-awards-to-be-temporarily-suspended-new-supply-of-liquid-steem-to-be-reduced

...and from github:

"Due to the controversy of liquidity rewards we are going to evaluate our design and change liquidity rewards if needed. For now, we believe they are not providing enough value to keep around. We have decided to disable liquidity rewards altogether for the time being while we work on a more permanent solution. This is a temporary change. The internal market not charging transaction fees may be enough of an incentive to trade internally that we may not need liquidity rewards at all. All of these aspects will go into our final decision. We encourage the community to voice their thoughts on liquidity rewards and potential changes in a civil and objective manner."

Less leaking/dumping Cool
674  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit how can this thing be workable long term? on: July 21, 2016, 10:35:38 PM
The minute speculators stop buying Steem it may collapse because there is no business model or revenue source only the hope speculators will value a site attracting users and not use common sense.

The platform itself may not have ads, but the content itself can be ad-style / ad-supported even include gray-advertising. So, in that sense, purchasing steem power also gives you the power to commercialize products and services by reaching a broader audience.

675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit how can this thing be workable long term? on: July 21, 2016, 10:05:06 PM
Reddit raised funds in 2014 at a valuation of $500 million. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reddit

Steemit is valued at >$300 million despite having < 0.5% the market share of Reddit.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@skapaneas/steemit-analytics-comparing-david-and-goliaths

Reddit will generate $30 million revenue in 2016 but will likely still be in the red after expenses.

Steem will generate no revenue in 2016 and have MUCH higher expenses than Reddit because it's paying users for content.

 Over-valued...Huh

https://steemit.com/steemit/@alexgr/market-value-of-steem-can-become-much-higher-than-reddit-here-is-why

...and I haven't even included the Facebook-commenting/Facebook-discussion oriented crowd in the equation.

for today i'd be content over joyed with a green candle to 699
I just sitting and think..why directly 666?? why not 600 or 700 dollars.is there some explanations?

Traders having fun... Cool

"Another example implication is that while the STEEM price remains unchanged, the value of STEEM POWER's holdings are increasing 1.24% per day (90%1÷365)."

1.24% per day far exceeds 100% over a year. If my excel sheet math is correct, you start at 100 coins and you get to 8985 by day 366.

cell A1 = 100
cell A2 = A1 * 1.0124
cell A3 = A2 * 1.0124
...
cell A366 = A365 * 1.0124 = 8985.24280667947

I'm looking at a bot - or someone with bot-like-behavior that enters a large number of threads to make some one liner comment or throw a meme photo

https://steemit.com/@weenis/transfers

His account got to 100$ in something like a day.

The system needs tweaking or something. Bot-resistance should be the strong point.

It seems pretty broken:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@mary777/wang-the-steemit-bot

The fact that there is no real Sybil prevention means it will be gamed to hell and back and will turn into a giant circle jerk of bots.  Delegates/curators/whatever you call them will probably be running the things on the down low.

Can you notify the creators? This is bullshit.

Bitcoin is fairly "predictable". It's long term trend is upwards and its buying power increases in terms of tangible assets. I can't say the same for fiat currencies Tongue

Even KZT or RUB are more predictable, with less volatility.

We live in a world where GBP and CHF can do +/- 15% swings in a day.... so...
