161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: March 07, 2017, 08:19:34 PM
Preliminary rolling road map added to the OP.

The OP will carry a rolled up summary. The activities are one level down. For example, our initial effort will be on updating white papers and securing some defensive intellectual property (we'll give due respect to open source).

The upfront focus on IPR allows us to work on building what will give the project value without looking over our shoulder every five minutes that someone is copying our ideas and getting the credit, the value and attracting extra good quality dev support.

162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: March 07, 2017, 11:50:02 AM
Before anyone starts to think of names for individual units of helium (like, an atom or something), please don't.

Wait for the announcements on the patents first. You'll get a better idea of the whole picture and then we might open things up on that front.

You'll also see why copying an idea doesn't always workout if you haven't invested time, effort and experience into the idea creation in the first place. You only see the tip of the iceberg and you have no comprehension of how deep or broad the idea is below the surface.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: March 06, 2017, 12:44:34 PM

We've secured a few social media domains, but are there any specific ones you would like us to add?

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, r/ are done.

As helium is a very unique brand within payments, the network can be very aggressive if wants to be in pursuing anyone that attempts to cyber squat or ripoff the brand.

Some people won't like that we're thinking about social media - but over the next few years, that's where average Joe public spend their time. The network can decide on these things much later on. Let's just think about securing some channels first so we don't have to worry about chasing down cyber squatters.

...Why not just set a future block and use that date to determine all SPR balances (ignoring all transactions after the selected block height) and have people sign their addresses to prove ownership and claim?
..

I too was thinking about a block height cut off.
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CRW] CROWN (SHA256) | Core Updates | Thrones | Merge Mining on: March 06, 2017, 02:40:05 AM
Just going to put this out there...

Would you buy a physical Crown coin if they existed? EDIT: When i say "A Crown coin, I mean several Crown on one coin, EG One 1000CRW coin"

I mean, I would and a few others I know would too.

So defunctec -- what would this be?  Would this be a device with a chip which would have the keys to a wallet - where the wallet would how X coins?  So it's more of a crown chip?  And I guess the chip could just display the balance of the wallet/keys it holds?

Since addresses can be used on multichains -- I guess you could also have a multi-coin chip?

Then theoretically people could use digital tokens by transacting in these chips -- just like they transact with cash....

I guess, I would just imagine possibilities in a "general purpose model"  ....  and I would imagine that one would spend "crown chips" or "crown cards" like cash.

so yeah... that sounds interesting.

I think he means something like this:

This is a private key for a Bitcoin address

L5FoA3bjh2A4ZB2aLcz74iT4AZSLTZwYmU9yuiS3F6954ZqTfTRX

If you imported that key into a Bitcoin wallet, you could spend the Bitcoins that are associated with that private key (to anyone reading this - this address has zero balance).

If you printed this private key to a small piece of paper and gave it to someone, they could go through the steps of importing the key into a wallet and use it. This private key is like an exchange of value, so you can use it to barter.

The next step.

Being able to use this private key for a barter exchange multiple times, just like any M0 and M1 fiat money supply.

If you seal this private key under a hologram, as long as the hologram remains intact, a person can be assured that the private key hasn't been used. So they would be confident in accepting a physical coin that is backed by a digital token because the private key can be redeemed on demand. If the next person is also willing to accept the coin for its stated face value, you have money supply - as the private key is moving from person to person without the value being taken out.

The problem with this approach is the provenance of the coin. If you are a criminal, you can fake these things all day long. So being able to trust the issuer of the coins is the deal breaker.

The second issue is the technical process to print the private key onto a piece of paper that you can then seal under a hologram. If the person creating the coins can see the private keys, then you are putting a lot of trust into that person. But there are tools and processes out there that are designed to get around this problem.

Lastly, you are basically printing money. Depending on where you live, you're either going to be ok, or put in prison.

It's a great idea though. A very tactile way to interact with digital currency using something familiar to everyone.

I am interested in potentially adding this to http://icocountdown.com

Email: alex@icocountdown.com

Skype: icocountdown

Telegram: @Alexanderico

maybe you should change the name to COIn countdown instead ...

since there is no ICO in coin ... especially this one ...

Wink ...

If it's mining thats fine, we have musicoin, veltor and pascal.

We're likely to get some dates discussed later this week. When that's done, someone will probably email you.

Hear me out....

You're my kind of community member. Ready to pitch in ideas and make the effort to explain your view.

Thank you.

Personally, I'm not keen on the idea of sending SPR's to a burn address, but you've taken the time and effort to put together a reasoned argument, so we'll put the suggestion into the pot and let everyone have their view.

We are just going in a different direction to SPR. All the development currently within SPR has a two year history but we've reached the point of divergence. The two projects have different paths, but they will still both exist.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: March 05, 2017, 01:21:08 AM
@coins101

Just making sure I understand.

Sending SPR coins to escrow and receive same amount of HLM.

So we are swapping SPR for HLM?

No more SPR?

lets say you have 100 SPR.

Send them to escrow to confirm you have 100 SPR. He'll send you back 100 SPR, plus 100 helium. Well, that's one of the options.

Whatever happens, you'll end up with 200 coins (less any escrow fees) where you only had 100.

SPR will be just fine. It will still continue and thrive. Just on a different road map.
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] - PRE NOTICE on: March 05, 2017, 12:32:13 AM
OP has been updated with more technical specifications of the HLM project, take a peek.

Reminder: If you are interested in getting involved with HLM, please contact Coins101 or myself directly. We will have more information coming out soon on how you can actively get involved in what will be one of the most talked about blockchain projects in 2017 (and beyond).

bump

We'll be working through an outline short-term road map over the next few days. Get in touch to get a Slack invitation.

Although I said I won't be buying or selling any SPR during this transaction period - we do have some modest start-up funding needs like domain names and some basic infrastructure.  I may sell some SPR and convert that as a loan to the helium dev fund or something. We'll discuss the options around this on Slack too.

If you are against doing a snapshot..

Thanks for your ideas. Much appreciated.

Taking a snapshot is in the OP, so I'm not against it.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: March 04, 2017, 05:01:19 PM
Like I said, not rushing into anything.

So I've thought about this for a while now and I think its worth giving it a go.

I have spent quite a lot of the past two years actively trying to pursue some ideas around Service Nodes and I think some of those ideas are probably not that aligned with where Spreadcoin is heading.

Two years is a long time.

Which is why I don't want to start again from scratch or do an ICO.  The stuff I've been doing around here for a while is still valid, it's just not where the Spreadcoin Core is going - hence a fork of sorts.

There is an existing white paper branded for the benefit of SPR which is still in draft. I'll probably tidy that up a little and make use of it elsewhere.

There is a new white paper which hasn't been made public yet. I need to change some things on that and then it will get released.

There is a third white paper due, but it is likely to be put on the back burner until a patent is written and submitted.

These things are about the direction I'm really keen to follow. That direction is more focused around service nodes that pay a coupon; give people a way to earn a living from providing services through the second layer; and ultimately about potential ways to generate dividends. I come from that type of mindset that dividends can be productive to society if done ethically, such as providing incomes for pensions.

So the concept of an economic fork is where I think things will go.

People will get to claim whatever stake they have in Spreadcoin in a new coin called HLM (full name to be released in due course after setting up github and a website).

Everyone will be given plenty of notice about being able to claim their new coins and we won't be short changing anyone. So if you claim your HLM's you'll have Spreadcoin's and HLM coins in equal measure.

It won't be some five minute process either. People that pop in once a year will still find they can redeem their HLM's.

HLM is going to be a DASH fork. So it's easier to use an escrow to redeem coins than try to create some fancy automated process. Only you and the escrow will know your coin holdings - so please take into account an escrow fee. We will need to cover off people that fancy chancing their luck and claiming and claiming and claiming using the same set of coins.

I look forward to keeping my Spreadcoins and seeing them grow in value over the years to come. The Spreadcoin project is in great hands. I've always supported Georgem and given the amount of time he has spent gaining knowledge about the Bitcoin codebase this project will continue to do well over the long-term.

But I think my priorities are in areas of development that probably don't fit very well with where I thought SPR might have been going.

So, it's not good bye but simply see ya around.

GO SPREADCOIN!

Hopefully this helps to explain the current proposals on the economic fork.

Details and alternative options still being reviewed.

Hopefully this explains the current proposals for the economic fork:

Details and alternative options are still being reviewed.

edit

1. Choose from one of our preferred Escrow and you may get charged a fee
2. Select your own Escrow and tell us where to send coins
3. We can do it for free (might take a while)
4. If we get listed on Bittrex, they might do the distribution automatically for you.

Send me a pm with your email.

Same goes for anyone who wants access.

Social media

We have a domain name and we've replicated that across social media.

If anyone is interested in looking after one or more of those channels, please let me know.

We're going to keep the number of communication channels down to a very small number for the immediate future.

But we do now have the ability to grow outwards to where the average person likes to hang out, when we need to do that.

GitHub access will be shared with a few people for project security.

179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: March 04, 2017, 10:50:25 AM
For those who may have noticed I've taken out my vTorrent sig.

That's not to suggest in any way I've lost interest in vTorrent. I think this project has got the potential to be one of the best top 10 coins in crypto and the vTorrent devs are pretty epic for taking on this challenge, they are just not very communicative.

As I proposed with forking vTorrent if necessary, I'm forking another project that was not looking like it was heading in the direction I thought it should go. I'm taking stewardship of the fork and pushing it forward along with many others in the direction we think it should go.

So my offer to fork vTorrent as a plan B if it looked like the end of the world was upon us - that was not a hollow promise.

So u want to fork vtorrent? What the point? Are u saying
that u can finish torrent implementation on blockchain?
that missing link we are waiting from current
Dev? Or did i get this wrong? Or will u have
Another solution? What good will fork do for
Current vtorrent holder? Coins will
Be distributed as per current holdings or?

Look. I've been following this project for years now. I'm not going to do anything to disrupt it. Not one single thing.

What I hear all the time is people saying they are not investing in vTorrent because it doesn't have BitTorrent yet, as promised. And they also say, what if it never gets delivered?

This really pisses me off. I wouldn't be here nearly every day for years now if I didn't think the vTorrent devs could deliver.

I have bought all my coins. I was soaking up a lot of the dumps people were making when they called vTorrent a scam. Some still do. Why would I risk my Bitcoins when people were dumping and calling it a scam if I didn't believe in this project?

Look at all the extra features added during the last fork....we now have more and much better features than projects valued at $10m or more. We have better features than Litecoin and Dash, combined.

The reason we have such a low market value despite being better than coins in the top 10, is because of one single issue.

WHERE IS BITTORRENT FEATURE? I'M NOT INVESTING UNLESS I SEE BITTORRENT.

That's it. Despite being the only coin with 2FA protection which alone should give us $2m marketcap - WHERE IS THIS F****** BITTORRENT.

I'm pissed of with it.

So I made a promise to those who say, it's never going to happen; or it's a scam project.

My promise is to fork vTorrent if BitTorrent doesn't happen or it's a very long con scam.  That is your insurance policy to everyone.

JoyStream has no option but to go open source. If it doesn't, people won't use it.

When it goes open source and IF vTorrent doesn't deliver or is a scam, I will fork JoyStream and merge it into vTorrent.

But, I don't want to do this.

IT'S AN INSURANCE POLICY.

You only claim on an insurance policy if bad things happen.
