481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be replaced by another cryptocurrency? on: December 20, 2016, 06:28:17 PM
Storage services like Storj, Maid, MegaUpload 2.0 and vTorrent altcoins and services that will strengthen Bitcoin even further.

Altcoins wanting to replace Bitcoin need to attract these type of coins to provide similar services.

Bitcoin has a strong ecosystem supporting it and trying to leverage off it.

So it's weakness of bitcoin? And altcoin will need attracting them to building the strong ecosystem like bitcoin? Seems like the key wasn't holding by the bitcoin itself.

It's a weakness of altcoins that want to take over from Bitcoin.

Every exchange uses Bitcoin as the exchange currency. That keeps the volume of BTC high.

So altcoins support Bitcoin.

If you are an altcoin, you need to find a way to get other altcoins to support you.

Not necessarily, you just need an exchange where the altcoin can directly exchanged to fiat currency and be popular like bitcoin.  The truth is, they both supporting each other, bitcoin to altcoin and altcoin to bitcoin.  It is that Bitcoin is much more popular right now that altcoin are  seen at the back.   But I am still into this belief "The only permanent in this world is change".  So no matter how long it will take, some cryptocurrency will replace bitcoin in due time.

You're obviously wrong  Grin

Look at all the altcoins with new features. Bitcoin doesn't have any features.

So altcoins like vTorrent, for example, doesn't have any fiat conversion ability.  For people to use the BitTorrent functionality, they need to use Bitcoin.

Altcoins have the features, Bitcoin is the reserve currency and a way for people almost anywhere in the world to convert fiat to Bitcoin.  This makes Bitcoin highly desirable because of altcoins.

Do you see why you are wrong?

484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FACT CHECK: Bitcoin Blockchain will be 700GB in 4 Years on: December 19, 2016, 11:08:28 PM
Going into Jan 2017, the 100GB prediction is accurate, so still on track for 700GB blockchain by the time of the next halving.

SegWit acceptance and or an increase in the block size will cement the prediction.

Wow that's a whole lot of VTR; 5% interest a year means they'll be getting 50k VTR extra a year...

If VTR ever hits $100m, that's like $500,000 / year

How he would get 500,000$ a year? It means that
His wallet should be staking 24hrs a day or?

The way staking works is going to change, IIRC. But currently, you get 5% of coins in your wallet.

At $100m, and around 10m coins in circulation, that works out at $10/coin. So 50k VTR/year x $10/coin = $500k

If the dev does a ninja hard fork, the VTR competition will still be based around the closest to the hard fork.

The devs did say block 1,200,000 and 1,300,000 but in case there is a last minute change, for whatever reason, I'm paying out against the fork itself.

Plausible deniability

As part of the 2FA process, can the passphrase be set to create a dumb wallet?

If you are held at gunpoint and told to unlock your wallet, would be great to be able to load into a wallet with some random and very, very low VTR amount based on how much VTR you have; and no trading or torrent activity being shown.

Are we using the github master or e1ghtSpace-patch-1 for our main files? I wrote something that should make creating a spreadcoin node a bit easier on linux.

Nevermind, realized it was smarter to create a new repository. If this made your life easier I wouldn't mind a bit of love my direction.

Let me know if you find any errors.

Looks good. I'm almost inspired to hunt around for my linux memory stick over the holiday season.

Suggestion:

With a couple of hard forks coming, hopefully, those 10m coin owners will be paying attention.

vTorrent has 5% staking reward.

That's around $13k, or $1k/month

If you want to see the value of your VTR's go up, I think it will be helpful to create a PR budget for the next few months.

How about those 10m coins owners donate their 5% interest for the next four months to a PR budget?

My suggestion, for everyone to agree upon or not, is that 5% of monthly stake goes into an address. If the full 5% on coin supply is reached we have consensus on that months PR budget proposals.  If 5% is not reached, then we rollover any donated coins until we do reach a consensus on a particular PR proposal.

If we don't get consensus, we'll have to figure out what to do with coins sent.

We don't want to get into a situation where 50% of people contribute, and the other 50% get a free ride.

Although not a very clean proposal, and could get very messy, you get the idea. Any suggestions to improve it (or kill it as an idea)?

I've just about had enough of the terrorist too.

Several people have opted not to post here. So I'm thinking of creating a self-moderated clone thread, until the mods change their stance or he fucks off.

I would be much interested in that.  Please let me know what you decide.  I have very little intention to post at any time, but that shit kills whatever enthusiasm I have

How about a general slack thread?

when is the hard for supposed to be? a date?

There is an open competition to try and guess the date and time. For example, this guy is providing a guess roughly once a day, which is in line with the competition rules:

Hard fork guess: 12/31/16 6:43 PM

hard fork, 12/30/16 8:07 PM

Hard fork, 12/30/16 2:22 PM  Chain has been speeding up Tongue

Hard fork: 12/30/16 9:50 AM

Several others have also submitted estimated date and time for the fork, expected at block 1,200,000 and then another at block 1,300,000

What do people think:

The Twitter dude who came out of nowhere, has sent some feedback about

* Bravenewcoin - does vTorrent community want to propose an article for their site? They have said that they will consider it. But they would also publish an article written by the community for a fee of around $100. So its free if they like an article and they write it, $100 if the community wants to control the content and publish their own.

* BitcoinRush - guy on YouTube that does Bitcoin / Altcoin news, wants to do a report on vTorrent, but he wants a contribution for his research time of $100

Sounds like for a $100 you can get what you want online.

Anyway.....it's up to you guys to decide if you want to create some sort of PR bounty and whether to do it in Jan or Feb (or later).

Thanks for clearing everything up..  I rest my case.
see ya next year..

Hope not.

Despite being invited to give a wish list of feature requests, you decided to be an armchair critic and add nothing to the world.

As you seem to expect a free lunch, PM your bank account number. I'll send you some money for nothing.
