Exactly my point, it seems that no one actually thought about it, or about how the whole feature will function..    some people just assume that waiting for two years for something they don't even bothered to understand is a good thing, and everyone who doesn't think like them is a troll.

"it seems that no one actually thought about it"

Again--There are 150 pages. Go and read. Because it has been discussed. As for what system vTorrent will actually use has still not been confirmed (this is at least partly backed up by the dev saying very, very, very early on that he was going to keep most details private because there was another unrelated scam "Magnetz")

What you're saying is that this was a pure speculation investment for two years, since no code of the main feature has been shown yet, and your argument is "but the dev said this is going to be a secret.." ,  how long do you think that "secret" can hold ? another two years?
Come on.. listen yo yourself..

Give me a list of 5 investments that are not speculative. No give me 1.

You do know that you are on a Bitcoin (still in Beta since 2009) forum, talking about alternative currencies.

Want a guarantee? Go buy a fucking kettle.
502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: December 17, 2016, 11:22:33 AM
Has the torrent function actually been worked in yet, as promised?

Not yet - the Dev is still building the groundwork for the torrent functionality. I wouldn't expect full torrent functionality until the 2nd hard fork around February.

I'm guessing the release in the next week will have a number of "under the hood" changes and improvements.

yeah, pretty much gave up on this one a while back.  if it wasn't ready to deploy with at least a hint of the promised features then why post it, lol.

It's not as easy to just build in a simple torrent client into the software - any developer can do that. But to tie it into a token payment system for sharing files as well as implementing anonymity features makes it about 100 times more difficult.

Any one with a technical / development can relate and knows it takes time. Everybody else just has a royal whinge. That's life in the crypto dev space....

I am a dev and the point is that we don't post every idea here the second it hits our heads, we don't announce things until we are within at least the six month range of making it happen, that way people don't lag around for MORE THAN SIX MONTHS waiting on people to finish what they started

That 6 month range is something you have made up arbitrarily. The VTR dev has announced no such timeline for any feature whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure segwit was announced well over 18 months ago and it's only just landed.

And lightning network is coming into its third year since announcement.

And how about that Zcash. 4 years in announcement.

Projects that seem to have amazing fast devs that can release magic code in days or weeks are typically the mouth piece for a scam.

I appreciate your effort, but I was referring to this - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=889481.msg17202401#msg17202401

The OP says it aims to be the next limewire or kazaa with a blockchain at it's core, i'm pretty sure they are refuring to being like a content sharing platform, not to function exactly the same as them.

An inbuilt torrent client with the ability to search the blockchain for magnet links, this is what I imagine it to be, but I can't confirm it 100% as I know as much as everyone else.

Exactly my point, it seems that no one actually thought about it, or about how the whole feature will function..    some people just assume that waiting for two years for something they don't even bothered to understand is a good thing, and everyone who doesn't think like them is a troll.

You do have a valid point, but you have trolled this thread quite a lot as a result people don't bother to respond to you.

It does suck that the dev decided to keep the details of how the client is implemented a secret until they are ready. I'm with you on that one.

Provide a features request list.  The dev has been asking for months.

It's not a binary position. They have said you can influence what gets delivered.

If you choose to complain and not offer ideas. How can you complain about the outcome?

I've just about had enough of the terrorist too.

Several people have opted not to post here. So I'm thinking of creating a self-moderated clone thread, until the mods change their stance or he fucks off.

I invested in a web site that has a 20% premine, is asking for IOC money, will be buying back coins to support the price, asks people to register on their shady website and operates a moderated thread so everyone sounds like it's all cool in the hood - and I'm cool in the hood with that because I know what I'm talking about.

I have nothing but respect for your 'investment' pics.

Thanks for sharing.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink...as the saying goes.

or in may case....you can take a girl out on a date to a bar and while she'll drink like a fish, it don't mean you're getting laid  Grin
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: December 16, 2016, 10:00:50 PM
To troll or not to troll? That is the question.

All i'm going to say is the proof is in the pudding.

Wait for the code, see the what the devs bring to the table. Only two weeks to see the first instalment. Given the devs history of bringing a worlds first, I suspect it's going to be good.

All you negative posters can go fuck them selves.

Just to be clear

If anyone has any constructive criticism, bugs they want to expose, concerns, etc.

No issues with that at all. These sorts of comments make projects stronger. Post away.

If you're just interested in being mischievous; malicious; you're basically promoting some shit that's got a 20% pre-mine, plus it has an ICO and it has a moderated thread; or you just want to be fucking rude because you're bored / have no friends etc and feel you can be a twat because you're on the internet. That's basically trolling. Expect push back.
509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: December 16, 2016, 07:46:42 PM
....this bit is bollocks....moving on to feature request.....

Also, part of the torrent user experience is the ability to browse the tracker for new(and legit) content , if this client is going to function like Kazaa, there will be no such experience. That is major functionality when it comes to finding content to download and watch/use.[/b]

....

Dear ik_do,

Thank you for your suggestion, inbuilt data folder selection will be include in the next few releases (if not this coming release).

if anyone have any suggestion especially on torrent implementation please do not hesitate to share it here or PM.

Regards,

vTorrent

Just make feature requests, as suggested by the devs.

btw, joystream uses bitcoin, thats a fucking big plus.

A big plus for who? Their venture capital investors? Why don't you go and knock on their door and ask to invest in their company and get some shares?

No. Wait. If you stick around long enough, they will have an IPO and you can buy shares on the stock exchange.

You know Bitcoin is not private right? If you make a transaction that exposes your IP address, you know your Bitcoins can be traced forever more? Right?

So JoyStream has this great idea to go and get VC funding (so you're just a regular customer); uses Bitcoin so you're being tracked; it will allow you to share...let me think for a minute..fuck all worth sharing....and you'll be in a database of users matched against IP with Bitcoin addresses.

I really don't hear you complaining that they have not yet released anything either. One rule for them...one rule for somewhere where you can post without fear of moderation.

So, feel free to go join the JoyStream sub-reddit.

That's the thing about market based anything...if you don't like something, you can fuck off somewhere else.

Coins101 is one of the very best in crypto at what he does.  His ideas are right up there with some of the biggest names in the industry.

As they say around these parts, *Cough*  Tongue
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: December 16, 2016, 06:19:10 PM

From what I understand(it's written in the OP) is that it's going to function like kazaa and not like a regular torrent client where users need to visit a tracker to find(browse) the torrent file they are looking for to download, where you have known/registered uploaders that contribute legit content to the tracker.
My question is, how VTR is going to handle the lack of legit and popular content constantly provided by large uploaders ?

Also, part of the torrent user experience is the ability to browse the tracker for new(and legit) content , if this client is going to function like Kazaa, there will be no such experience. That is major functionality when it comes to finding content to download and watch/use.  Undecided

Anyone else is building a fax machine for two years that uses a blockchain?

JoyStream.

My guess is they raised about $1m from VCs.

Do you know more than venture capital people that spend that sort of money?

Why don't you head over to the JoyStream reddit and post there?

Don't worry about Duke - he just wants it fully open source so he can fork it and create VTR Classic.

I'm so not worried.
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: December 16, 2016, 04:18:56 PM
Dear all,

As of now, only vTorrent Core is open sourced, and the reason we need to keep our full client (2FA included) closed source is to prevent other dev to clone our work and claim it as their own (or falsely claim as their project being one of the first to implement those features).

When Bittorrent part of vTorrent is reveal in a few release from now, hopefully our project will then be wildly known in crypto-currency space and the decision to open sourced other part of our project will then be considered again.

vTorrent

Coins, I will be delayed by a few days on the editing of the whitepaper. There are too many "decentralised" words to be fixed and my find and replace tool isn't working. Tongue

In all seriousness, it is longer than I anticipated and I want to do a good job ensuring that it is ready for the public.

I did say I hadn't had time to do a full check on typos, etc?

So what's the first impression? Does it make sense?

It took all of my energy to not carry forth with fixing all of your Britspellings, but I made it through. I sent it back to you with some of my edits.  Grin

It all made sense to me. I definitely understood it better than when you were discussing it here in the forums. I was a bit skeptical when you were discussing it here - skeptical in regards to people / businesses actually paying for the service. Now that I understand the uses better I think it is a really great idea & Service Nodes would have one more means of producing income. I am obviously highly interested in seeing it implemented.

I'm sure we can ask around to get an English > American translation bounty together  Tongue

Plenty of legal cases are tested out in Australia first to see how courts will react and also to develop the various arguments.

Why?

Well, Australia has a very well developed legal system which is broadly based on the British legal system. It also has a stable government and well educated lawyers.

Crucially, news coming out of Australia doesn't tend to get noticed by the masses and legal costs are much less than they would be in America or Europe.

So it's interesting that rights holders have been pushing several legal challenges as far as they can take them. And they are winning the fight against web sites.

https://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-and-other-pirate-sites-will-be-blocked-in-australia-161215/

Here they have made it the ISPs responsibility to block sites, mostly at their own costs.

What will happen now is that this win will be hawked around the world in an attempt to get all ISPs to block all web sites that rights holders demand be blocked.

This is already starting to happen, but the pace of it will now pick-up.

Yeah...but wait until the hard forks start happening, then you might find VTR is better  Wink
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Full Nodes Are Operated By Businesses? on: December 15, 2016, 11:45:22 AM
..
simply reinventing multibit but with a usage charge wont really take off, lets hope thats not all your conception is

You are right and (hopefully) wrong.

People that want free, well they can use one of the many free wallets out there.

What I see all day every day is the need for support. Businesses run things, but when they go wrong, they don't want their staff to be on google trying to find answers. They need: call this number > get a ticket > get a resolution > close ticket.

What you also have to do is take a look at the world from outside the day to day Bitcoin bubble.

You would have no trouble running an SPV with a full node attached, with encryption enabled. Would an ordinary worker at a utility company have that level of skill? And why should they have to learn it? They are there to do a job at the company they work for, and they are expert at that job. They don't want to have to become expert at running something their employer wants them to use.

And think about running full nodes from an enterprise point of view. An organisation of 1,000 people decides they want to run Bitcoin and they need 200 full nodes. That, like it or not, will slow down their already congested networks. Bitcoin wouldn't last a week once deployed on production environment. Scale that up to 100,000 strong business needing 1,000 full nodes and you can pretty much hear the CTO laughing you out the door.

520  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Full Nodes Are Operated By Businesses? on: December 15, 2016, 10:04:14 AM
I think there are maybe a few portions of the entire node network that are run by businesses, but for a lot of them it doesn't make sense for them to do such a thing because it's just an energy sink for the most part, unless I'm woefully uneducated when it comes to the pros and cons of running a node.

I know Greg is stalking me on this thread ( Cheesy), but while I do want to know how many ordinary users are out there running full node and can't be easily caught up in some coordinated take down by governments, most likely through some weird legislation, I am also interested in how businesses can expand their use of full nodes and still have the benefit of SPVs.

As I provide enterprise level services and support on a couple of apps, I know users just want to be users (as Satoshi put it). Quite a lot of my customers are looking at moving to the cloud, a fair number going to Azure.

So I have also been doing some research on enabling businesses to run full nodes and linking them to SPVs. As it turns out, Jonas Schnelli with the help of Mr. Maxwell (hence my stalking jest) has been doing some work on encryption between SPVs and full nodes (BIP150 and 151). For the past year, I was thinking about something similar but coming at it from a business and noob user point of view, using something like (as it turns out) BIP 150 / 151 to launch a secure full node by simply running a particular type of commercial grade SPV (it would have fees and therefore SLA's).

So on a number of issues, this thread is very helpful.
