161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: want to build a rig (total newbie at this!) on: January 13, 2014, 09:13:33 PM
I usually run 4gb for up to 6 gpus.  But I have ran one 6 gpu unit on 2gb when I had one stick go bad, using windows 7.  With linux I would imagine the requirement would be even less.

When is the next half in block payout?

On a 500$ budget thats easy
semperon cpu 35   (Best mining cpu)
pos case         25   (buy any atx case)
hd 7850         200 (GPU)
PSU               7150  (750 watt)
hard drive (sata)       25    (any mem works)
ram                         50   (4 gigs)
mobo                      75   (am3+ slot)

MIND YOU YOU WOULD NEED TO USE LINUX
AND IT would need to be wired in, not wirless
also if you would want to expand you would need a new gpu
OR buy a rig from me. Ill build one custom tailored for you with al mining software loaded up and ready.
We can work out price pm me.

I've just been doing a bit of research on GPUs and came to the same conclusion, that the 7850 gives the best bang for the buck, when you include power draw. What makes the Sempron the best CPU? Just because it's got a low power draw?

because they are cheap and widely available.
164  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New gpu build--need mobo help for 1150 on: January 12, 2014, 08:43:01 PM
Yes, but there are 2 different styles of pci-e 3.0 risers.  The ones with the connector going off the back will not fit in a 16x slot.  Be sure to buy the ones that have the connector off of the top.
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP! struggling to make 6 gpu R9 290 rig to run on windows 7 on: January 12, 2014, 06:00:39 AM
to be honest im hashing fine at 4.1Mh with 5 cards currently in win8. too bad i got nowhere sticking that idle card somewhere else as only spare hardware i have is old motherboards that dont have win7 support.

What are you hiding over in the corner?

Also do you want to sell that extra card or I can sell you a cheap ass mobo/processor/ram combo for $50, that would run that card and win7.

If by jumpers your mean the presence pin on the pci-e, the 3.0 usb risers should already have the presence pin connection built in.

The product you are talking about already exists, They use it in data centers and on commercial cooking equipment.  Some use c02 and some use halon.  However, good electrical practices and regular inspection would probably be a better option.

From memory I think the systems were Halon or co2 (long time ago) however the systems I have seen usually where activated by the fire alarm system and incorporated disconnection of electricity supply - no point putting it out if it will reignite..

Another point to note- the rooms had strobes to indicate activation ( in addition to audible ) primarily to prevent suffocation..  Shocked

Yep,  They dissipate all of the oxygen so nothing can burn.  You don't want to be in a room when one goes off.  Some are activated electrically(24v) and some use a big ass spring and a lead link.
168  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AsicMiNer ---- Blade V2 Make it BURNING !!! sweet Hack on: January 11, 2014, 05:45:33 AM
No, He just made a screenshot straight after restarting Blade. It takes a time before average can settle down to proper numbers, sometimes it's 5x lower sometimes higher. But there is absolutely no O/C, it's just a FAKE.

Even simpler yet.  I wasn't aware of that, I guess I never noticed it.
169  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AsicMiNer ---- Blade V2 Make it BURNING !!! sweet Hack on: January 11, 2014, 05:35:19 AM
This is simple, You just altered the firmware on the blade to change the calculation.  Although you can overclock the shit out of those blades, there is really no way to make them 6.5x more efficient.  So, I call bs
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 3 x 290s on an Asus M5A99FX - do I need powered risers? on: January 11, 2014, 01:37:43 AM
I ran 3 x 7970 directly off I think it was an Asus P8Z68-V PRO with an i5 for a few months no problems. I suspect higher end boards rated for quad xfire etc with 4 long pci-e slots probably have beefed up power tracks on the mobo to handle more current as compared to cheap boards which are much thinner and probably not designed to have more than 2 cards max ran off them. Having said that, I would definitely prefer not to do this on my own board for peace of mind, considering burnt tracks will probably get rejected from warranty.

Also I think the max power draw on a pci-e 16x slot is supposed to be 75W?

16x 75 watt

1x  25 watt

Thicker/wider traces and more supply wires to the motherboard is what is necessary. Running 3x 7970 is not the same as 3x anything else.

Not sure on the warranty. I am curious,Has anyone here rma-ed a board that burned because of too many gpus?

In case you hadn't noticed, this is in the BITCOIN hardware part of the forum.

CPU/GPU mining is now redundant with bitcoin, as it costs more in power and hardware than you will make back in BTC.

UNLESS you are mining altcoins.. But this forum is for BTC anyway so you should go to the altcoin section.

I don't think redundant was the word you were looking for.

I am still to make tests with additional cards but I think at the end I'll just go with the suggested solution of getting an additional MB+RAM+processor

In your case i would recomend a separate unit.  It doesn't look like you have enough room in your crate for any more cards.
176  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Noise fans from Avalons, any ideas of cooling and bringing the noise down on: January 10, 2014, 12:30:20 PM

I don't gamble actually, gambling seems stupid to me, just a place to hand over your money. Probably how a marriage sounds to you Smiley

Marriage is a gamble, The reason so many people loose is they don't know their wives or don't let their wife get to know them before they get married.  When you really know the person you are committing to the odds are so far in your favor, it is a win no matter what.
177  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Noise fans from Avalons, any ideas of cooling and bringing the noise down on: January 10, 2014, 11:43:26 AM

Yeah I have an idea...why dont you locate your balls, put them back in your sack and tell your wife to cook you some dinner. That poor schmuck that thru his hard drive away with 10 million in bitcoins stopped mining because his wife complained too. Some poor bastard i bought my avalon from sold it to me and all of his bitcoins for 100$ each in september because his wife was bitching. So if I were you, Id tell your wife to fuckin deal with it or you will find someone who will...best free advice youll ever get

Lol

I would recommend using at least one powered riser on your 1x slot, without having the board in my hand I can't tell you for sure if you absolutely need it.
179  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is it worth to buy a 3TH miner (10BTC)? on: January 10, 2014, 11:32:53 AM
guys. seriously. just buy some coins and hoard them. buy after crashes.

You are right but ... some people want to be miners for whatever reason. Altcoins I understand, there is a chance of profit there. Bitcoin? No.

Coin hoarding btc has worked well in the past, but I am not sure of the future.   Do you think alts will go sky high?  I am not questioning you just asking your opinion, as I am undecided.

Hashfast is in production, Chips in hand running .7th a chip.  I assume here shortly when all the rigs start arriving to the customers difficulty will skyrocket.  Cointerra isn't far behind and hashfast promised march.

I also assume that is why the companies keep changing up hardware.  Rather than continue to sell what they have at a lower price, they let the customers finance the next project that they can make a huge margin on instead of selling the existing hardware at a reasonable profit.
