61  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Server Power Supply Interface Board - for standalone miners and GPU rigs on: March 22, 2014, 03:26:55 AM
Could this used for Gridseed devices?

Yes, but you will have to buy pigtails.

Well how much do you want for it and will you ship to the usa?
63  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Motherboard designed for mining, and better riser cables in this thread. on: March 21, 2014, 07:38:06 AM
Okay, I've been looking through this thread and others and keep coming up with different answers. Posting here because i'm seeing actual pictures of an excellent setup.

I want to run a p9x79 pro, 4820k, with 4 r9 290 cards. I know the mobo and cpu are overpowered for this, but I owned them before I decided to mine with them . . and mentioning them here helps me stress that I'd like to not destroy them. I want to use them to mine safely.

Anyways, I have a couple questions about using risers:

I will be using two different single rail 850w power supplies for this type of setup. If I mount them all on risers, do all 4 powered risers need to be powered through one PSU? If so, does it need to be the main psu that I'm using to power the mobo or the secondary psu powering only the two extra GPU's? If different, do the risers have to be on the same PSU as the GPU that is powered (2 risers on each PSU)? I intend to use the powered USB risers that have been linked here.

Alternatively, I already have a comp case . . so can I put two cards on the board in the case and two cards outside of the case on a stand? I'm asking this because I already built a stand that will hold 2 GPU's and the second power supply. I'd like to know if I should just put all 4 cards off the mobo and on the stand (I designed it to fit up to 4 cards, but only has supports for two right now)  . . or if I can get away with 2 in the case and two out? If the split 2in 2out option is ok . . should I still have the two powered risers that I'll be using on the main PSU or the one outside the case? If this isnt safe I have no problems modifying my stand . . but it would be nice to save time if I can do it safely.

No all 4 risers do not need to be powered from the same supply.  You can have one feeding the two in the case for the risers and the cards and another feeding the two on the stand and their risers

68  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: without regulation of those exchanges, btc will never be in a high price on: March 15, 2014, 09:04:26 AM

They came up with the feedback system and other means of self regulating.

These systems absolutely drive me crazy! However, demand will foster innovation and maybe we will see something better.  At least until then I have a choice to deal with them or not, and that is the most important thing.
69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: without regulation of those exchanges, btc will never be in a high price on: March 15, 2014, 09:02:16 AM
Government regulation brings people false confidence and gives them an excuse to be stupid.  Everyone assumes that if a business is regulated, it is trustworthy, and that is rarely the case.  They put false trust in the regulation, and fail to research and learn.  Then when they loose their money, they cry for something to be done!!  Look at the forum.  I have not been a member for long, but I can assume that many people got scammed.  People became much more cautious, they actually gain capacity to think!  When this happens the scammers die off and the people worthy of business thrive.

The fall of Mt Gox, in my opinion is a good thing.  The survivors deserve to survive because they are better.  The demand for bitcoin will remain and the strong businesses grow stronger, and the people learn from their mistakes.

Regulation is always bad for everything all the time.  No good ever comes from regulations.  It just inhibits growth and prosperity.

At the point of a gun!

I'll make a offer later today via PM

btw Gridseed takes 8watts * 36 units = 288watts for 10800hash

Ok, that is fine.

Also I must have misread, I thought it was 8w per chip = 40watts per unit.  I could be wrong I have not researched more than the 5 min I have been talking to you.  I just assume that because the 10 unit kit includes 720 watts of power supply that the 8watt(the site I looked at said 7) was per chip not per unit. But I don't know.

An investor could buy the equivalent in gridseed ASICs and only use 100W for the same price.

Not correct.

Correct, it would actually be $1000 cheaper than your asking price.

Anyways, does it come with the motherboard, psu etc? Can you list the specs of each? I am interested.

I wasn't disputing the price, I have no idea, but there is no way they would only use 100watts.

Yes these units are complete and ready to go.

They use MSI 990fxa motherboards, 4gb ddr3 and a dual core 25w amd processor.

As I mentioned eirlier, one unit has (6) 6950 cards and the other 3 units have (6) R9 270S

Are you firm on the price? The gridseeds would actually use 288watts total, not 100watts.

I really do think I am being fair on the price, but I will consider offers, as I need the money.

Also I calculate about 1000w at the chip for equivalent grid seed. Or about 1250 at the wall

Not correct, and even if it were, GPU values decline at a significantly slower pace than asics, and you retain the option to mine scrypt-jane or other newer algorithms.

76  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The first Bitcoin Solar mining device coming soon - SolarMiner USB2 machine on: March 14, 2014, 04:41:02 PM
Unless you are going to install enough solar panels to power your entire house, and most of the time not even then, there is almost no reason ever to use batteries on a solar installation!

If there's no batteries, the extra power that can be saved in day time are wasted. Batteries are necessary, it keeps extra power to compensate in cloudy days and evenings. It's especially necessary for CONSTANT BITCOIN MINING RIG.

AND SOLARMINER use LFP batteries not the batteries used in cars! For those who are experts will know why.
For those who don't, here's the quotes from wikipedia:
Quote
The LiFePO4 battery uses a lithium-ion-derived chemistry and shares many advantages and disadvantages with other Lithium-ion battery chemistries. However, there are significant differences.
LFP chemistry offers a longer cycle life than other lithium-ion approaches.[7]
Like nickel-based rechargeable batteries (and unlike other lithium ion batteries), LiFePO4 batteries have a very constant discharge voltage. Voltage stays close to 3.2V during discharge until the battery is exhausted. This allows the battery to deliver virtually full power until it is discharged. And it can greatly simplify or even eliminate the need for voltage regulation circuitry.

Yes, But a sine synchronous inverter will utilize every bit of power that a panel makes, without using batteries that will eventually go bad.  The kit that I found on ebay and posted earlier will make 7times the electricity as your product, has no batteries that will ever go bad and only costs 50 bucks more.

I am in need of money.  I think I priced my items fairly, but if you are interested please make an offer if you think I am to high.

I have a scrypt farm that I am selling.  It consists of 4 rigs, in aluminum open air frames.
1 rig uses 6x 6950 gpus
3 rigs use 6x R9 270 gpus

Each rig runs about 2600khs.

I am asking 10.5btc for all of them including UPS ground shipping to the usa,

I also have 6x Saphire R9 290 Gpus that are new in the box.  I planed to build a new rig with them, but as I mentioned before I am in need of money. I will sell them for .75 btc each, including shipping to the usa.

Ok here you green guys go (that isn't an insult).  The 500watt kit costs 50 bucks more but will give you almost 7 times the power generation and has no batteries.
79  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The first Bitcoin Solar mining device coming soon - SolarMiner USB2 machine on: March 14, 2014, 08:53:19 AM
One would be better off installing proper solar panels on the roof, if one can afford it, and use it to power your mining rig. Batteries would need to be deep cycle marine batteries as they last longer. Any surplus energy can be fed back into the grid or used to heat up water.

Unless you are going to install enough solar panels to power your entire house, and most of the time not even then, there is almost no reason ever to use batteries on a solar installation!

So an overpriced solar panel with overpriced li-phos batteries that will only last two years and a nifty looking USB hub? Really people if you want a solar powered USB hub you can slap one together with ease. You can buy solar panels with charge controllers for less than $1 per watt now, get some car batteries and a power inverter and use any gear you want. What's the situation where someone needs this and it save them any money over a power bill? Stuffed full of the most power hungry USB asics, it will barely operate, the batteries wouldn't last through the evening so it needs to be plugged in...
At least his batteries will last two years.  A car battery won't last 2 months in a deep cycle application.  12v inverters generally suck for efficiency.

I don't argue your main point that it looks a bit overpriced for what it delivers but hey, people will pay for a Prius to increase their carbon footprint while telling themselves they are helping it, so why not this product.  And besides, you clearly don't understand any of the engineering issues you need to solve to run a solar powered rig.

Now, ifen you had said "golf cart batteries" it woulda shown that you a) know the difference between starting batteries and deep cycle batteries and b) know the cheapest deep cycle battery on the planet.  Bonus points woulda been given if you mentioned the need to provide ventilation and store them away from fire or flame.

Have you built off grid solar systems? I have. I didn't make my post to give a detailed explanation of how to do it, I made it to point out that the system is garbage and overpriced. Besides, you clearly don't have a clue other than what you assume in reading posts on the internet. Don't be a dick.

I also have done solar installs and can second Rick James.  This is overpriced garbage.  If you really want to help the environment, carbon footprint, reduce daytime peak usage, just buy a solar panel and a grid tie inverter(have it installed to code!) and be done with it. It will cost less and save more money.
