221  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / R9 Series gpu on: December 31, 2013, 10:04:08 AM
Hello, I have heard that the xfx brand 7950's are shit for mining.  Does XFX have poor performance with there whole line of gpus or just the 7950?  Does anyone have an explanation as to why this could be? They all use the same gpu how does the manufacture vary that much in performance?  What are some good brands to look for in the r9 290 series?  I only ask because I have mostly used 69xx series cards, I purchased some 7950 cards and they worked great for btc, but they shit on ltc.  They were xfx series cards.  I am now shopping for a R9 290 and don't want to make the same mistake again.
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Need help selecting hardware for first rig on: December 31, 2013, 09:52:28 AM
add2psu is a waste of money.  use a piece of wire or a paperclip to jumper the green and black wire on the end of the atx connector.  Just be sure not to bond the power supplies together anywhere.(which would smoke the shit out of one or both even with the overpriced add2psu crap)

Also, I have never dealt with seasonic, but corsiar makes a great power supply.
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP! struggling to make 6 gpu R9 290 rig to run on windows 7 on: December 31, 2013, 09:42:59 AM
Isn't the r9 290 a dual core gpu?

Also I don't think that troubleshooting guide is going to help him.  It is for older gpus.  I can run 6x7950 with no issues in windows 7, but r9 290 x6 is a different story.

Bamt is a pain in the ass.  I screwed around with it for a couple of days, then decided windows was working fine, why fuck with it.

Please also consider you may need to derate conductors based on length or ambient temperature.

That seems a little high to me, It looks like you are not overclocking them (avg 10.9)  It should be less than 1%.  How are you cooling them?
226  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Should I return my mining hardware? on: December 31, 2013, 09:09:00 AM
in the future never mix up money with friends or family (exception being spouse). I've seen nasty stuff from family regarding money, disgusting and relentless. With friends if I pickup the tab I consider it a gift, never expect a return of a favor, over time you filter out the one-way streets. Good lesson to learn, fuck splitting costs or profits, be your own alone.

Yep yep!  Even when you make every effort to do right, mixing money is a good way to loose friends or family.  It can get really ugly.

RepairGuy,  Cris asked a very important question and I don't want to step on your toes, but you "half answered it"

The question was "With bitcoin's current difficulty, wouldn't I do better to mine alts and exchange for BTC?"  While you did give an answer, your answer did not account for the increase in difficulty.   While that 180Ghs Antiminer WILL use less power/less heat......In the long run, the GPU's may provided to be more profitable due to the slower increase in diff........

Don't mind me....I am new here.......

..............Ninja Smoke.....

I don't take any offense, and I don't feel that I half answered it.  I have no idea what the difficulty is going to do, so I can't really predict that.  We have no way to know what is around the corner.  That would be a guess.  Anyone's guess for that matter.  She also asked about the CURRENT difficulty.

I am not discounting your prediction, please don't take it that way, But you must admit that the demand for gpus has increased immensely, the difficulty could skyrocket at any time.  How many units have been shipped in the past month, how many are sitting in box(like cris) waiting for funds or to figure out how to set them up / make them work?  It is anyone's guess. The current ltc network hashrate is equivalent to 117,000 7950s.  How many people are attracted to alt coin? how many gpus been sold? How many will be sold next week?  These are all questions that I don't have the answer to, We can only speculate.

The exchange rate is the same. Bitcoin increased x6 and at the same time ltc increased x3.  The person holding ltc would have made more on the increase in btc.  We can only speculate.

Right now I am selling a asic blade backplane with power supply and pcie extenders

Fluctuating price kind of screws me a little.  I am asking $29 each. I can do paypal or btc at time of sale.

Yes, I know it does, which I'm not to excited about.

But interesting... I've never looked into antminer. I'm reading a thread on those now.

I bought an antminer.  they delivered promptly, reliable company so far. Easy to setup and it just keeps running, I haven't even needed to restart it once since I received it.

I think as soon as the price stabilises people will start using BTC to buy things.

We've seen the volatility and people generally don't want to be on the wrong side of a 100% in a year increase in value.

I can completely understand that. but it seems that everyone on here sells in btc, and I am the only one with no sales.

I would send the i3 processors back.

So what can I get to replace them? Specs for Z87-G45 says it supports 4th-generation Core i3,i5,i7,Pentium,Celeron (LGA1150)...

I would use a different board and an amd cpu. I prefer amd and they are usually less expensive.

If you want to stick with intel then I wouldn't send them back.  By the time you pay shipping and wait for shipping both directions you will be at a loss.

I would mention that I would have gone with the absoulute cheapest cpu that would fit in the socket. Scrypt mining isn't really cpu intensive.

I also can't help but notice you have almost 4k worth of stuff for mining altcoin, because you said you couldn't afford asic, however the latest round of antminers are 2500

With bitcoin's current difficulty, wouldn't I do better to mine alts and exchange for BTC?

Ok, at current market

7000khs ltc 2.47 per day = .08btc
antminer .0767 btc per day

however the ltc rig will use 8 times as much electricity and put off a shitload of heat.

(I am not questioning your decision or trying to sway you in any direction, just stating the facts, I only ask the question because you said that you didn't have enough money for an asic, that didn't make sense.  now the fact that alt could be more profitable does)

I would send back the hard drives also. I have a whole stack of 40gb sata you can have two if you pay to ship them.

Holy smokes! Are you serious?Huh Are those large enough to run Windows 8, though? Again, not that much of techie, but I'm learning!

Yes it is big enough to run windows 8. 64bit windows 8 only requires 20gb.  I am also curious why you are using windows 8?  Is that better with the 7950's?

I would send the i3 processors back.  $1200 is pretty high for mobos and power supplies.

If they like the btc, they could buy with btc and then buy some more btc.  I also accept paypal.  I am not sure of any other reliable way to transfer money online.  At least just using paypal I save the ebay monster  fees(even though paypal is owned by ebay it still saves some) It also seem to me that most things on the fourm are sold in btc.
238  Economy / Trading Discussion / Selling Help? on: December 28, 2013, 06:13:01 AM
Hello all, I have attempted to sell several items on btctalk and I never get any interest, but I can sell everything on ebay for the same or occasionally more money. I want to support the bitcoin community and I abhor ebay and paypal.  Am I doing something wrong here or is there a better place to sell with btc?

Here is a stock pitcure of them.  When I get home I will take a picture of the lot. They are in hand and will ship from Nebraska.  Pricing includes priority mail shipping.

They use a floppy connector for power and include a floppy to sata adapter.
