321  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Miner on: December 02, 2013, 11:57:38 AM
Maybe it is just me, but I think it is stupid.  I agree that they need to keep innovating to keep up with the pace, but you don't see Samsung stop selling the galaxy 3 so they can work on the design for the galaxy 4.
asicminer is the only company that has a decent business plan. They make blades just as fast as humanly possible, and sell the shit out of them, and they are old and inefficient 130nm.

Then KNC has a preorder for a new 20nm design.  They could gain the capital for r&d just by selling the product they already made!!!  The only reason it would make sense to me to do this is if they question the outcome of the 20nm product.  If you are confident in your product, invest your own money for a greater profit on success.

I am suspicions about KnC. They have a good product with a good design and the units are fairly efficient compared to what else is out there. They really have the top of the market.  Why on earth are they abandoning it for a new preorder product?? I also see they have discontinued use of paypal.  It makes no sense to me.  A KnC Jupiter is going for $20k.  They have everything already, just make some more!! Why do all the mfg feel they need to screw everyone around with preorder crap!

Yeah bitcoin will continue to rise relative to fiat currencies that are victim to inflation, however the rapid rise in bitcoin value currently is caused by speculation and wider adoption. I can't forsee the bitcoin marketcap exceeding 1 trillion USD in 2013 dollars. (value of all gold in the world is 8 trillion in 2013 dollars). I think bitcoin could rise to a max of maybe around $10,000 USD/BTC in 2013 dollars and then start to slowly increase at the rate of inflation. There is no way 1 BTC =  100,000 USD or even $50,000 in our lifetimes.

In 2013 Dollars, probably not, but in the future in future dollars maybe.

cube is just blades in a square box with a back plane for the power and Ethernet. I haven't seen any cubes available lately.

I am not sure. I don't recall him saying specifically what the new product would be like, and that is not a question I thought to ask.  I was more concerned with speed and cost. He said the cost would be close to the same but would be almost 1.5x hash power. Maybe they are just going to overclock the existing chips.  Until someone has one, no one can know for sure.

See what I said to aznatama above - the cards are solidly supported on that front bracket, and in all our testing we haven't found a reason to support the GPUs at the back just yet:)

Peace of mind?

I would make you a deal on MSI P35 Platinum mobo, 2gb ram Intel Q6600 quad core and 2 msi 7950.

I have had 2 ideas.

The first is an escrow service for btc, but more like paypal, where it is mostly automated.

The other is a reverse atm.  You insert cash into a bill scanner like on a soda machine and it will instantly give you btc, again automated.

It is my understanding they are discontinued.  The distributor I purchased mine from said(last week) he got another load of 300 and that was the last.  He did say they(bitfountian) have a new product they are going to be selling, and he should see them on the next order.  I would imagine it will be a 50-something-nm product.

I think the price of the blades will remain high as long as roi stays as good as it is.  Once they are no longer profitable then the price will go down, but they will have little useability.  I would guess the blades will be the first to go. Of all the asic products the blades use the largest nm process die.

I see the support for the other end of the motherboard. That should work.  I have different length graphics cards in one rig.  I use a piece of ready rod with a piece of cpvc pipe over it placed under the card about a half inch behind the pcie connector.  My setup works, but it looks poor and is a pain to move. I am open to other options, but I want to be sure before I spend the money.

Also in the standard case the pcie slot/ motherboard supports part of the load.

It appears that the gpu cards are hanging by the back plate. It also appears the motherboard is hanging from the 3 screws on the one side.  All of the rigs that I have made support the back end of the cards.  It seems to me that way would put too much tension on the cards and motherboard.  Anyone have any thoughts or experience relative to that mounting style?
334  Other / Beginners & Help / BEWARE OF EBAY-How I got f'ed on: November 30, 2013, 07:15:35 AM
With the upturn in btc price I had a miner that was selling for 2.5times what I paid for it on eBay.  So I sold mine.  I had to pay $70 to ship it and the buyer received it 3 days later.   26 days later, the buyer opened a dispute claiming that it didn't work correctly.  I replied that it worked just fine when I shipped it.  Ebay gave him 10 days to open a claim or close the case.  10 days later escalated it to a claim.  Ebay took 2 days to make a decicion and now says he can mail it back for a full refund.  They gave him 10 days to provide tracking information.  It is now the 7th day and still no tracking.  He probably wont ship it untill the last day.  Then it will take another 3-5 days to get back to me.  I am out the $70 for shipping and he has been mining with my machine for over a month for free.

T This reminds me of Facebook vs Myspace, but you know what?  There are still millions of people who use Myspace for some reason.  Being the Myspace of the cryptocurrency world wouldn't be all that bad for a worst case scenario Smiley

I made this exact comparison last week, I also agree with your entire statement.  The more people that invest in btc the stronger it becomes, because there are more people with more $$ that want it to succeed. If we have a economic downturn in large enough scale to fail btc, btc will be the last of everyone's worries.

Yes lost btc are gone forever, and also yes the maximum number of available btc decreases.

Bitcoin is deflationary, as long as demand remains it will easily hit 10k

Hello All.  I saw over in the hardware section openrigs.com is selling a case for pcie video miners/superman bruteforce rigs.  It appears that the gpu cards are hanging by the back plate. It also apears the motherboard is hanging from the 3 screws on the one side.  All of the rigs I made I support the back end of the cards.  It seems to me that way would put too much tension on the cards and motherboard.  Anyone have any thoughts or experience relative to that mounting style?
