I tried a new NIC.  The only one I could find which was PCI.  It worked for a while and then seemed to cause stability issues with the motherboard.  The thing is literally ancient so no surprise there.  It did work well for the time though which leads me to believe that it's just a compability issue with the built in NIC.  I can mine in windows 7 fine.  Haven't tried other linux distros yet because I like the simplicity of smos and the historical charts it gives.

thanks for the link I haven't gone through those troubleshooting steps yet and have something to try when I get home tonight!

If you can mine in windows, you are correct about the compatibility.  I am not really familiar with smos.  That board uses a realtek 8111 nic.  The driver page is

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

You might try updating the linux driver.

Also, Mine will kernel panic with bamt on ocassion, I just use ubuntu, and watch stats from the pool.  I am sure with a little research you could install the monitor package on ubuntu.

I know that it isnt a solution as much as a workaround, but I use the 990fxa and mine like crazy with windows 7 and ubuntu both.  Have you tried using one of those?
104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 28nm ** 1T ** 900W【JingTian miner】 in production !!! on: March 07, 2014, 06:17:44 AM
Got it. It's a monstrosity with 3 external power supplies that I have to wire in myself... however even the power side needs to be screwed in with bare wires, and that's basically illegal to do in my country unless you're a certified A grade electrician... so I'm not sure exactly what to do with it yet  Undecided

External power supplies??  Got a picture?
It's as per the opening post, but with one extra power supply (presumably a spare/redundancy). Here's some photos, including a baseball cap for size comparison:

Thanks, They included some high end bench supplies with that machine. Nice.

106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales NEW STOCK ***NOW SHIPPING*** on: March 07, 2014, 02:16:43 AM
Evening all - I have some PCI V2.2 h-cards I'm looking to offload - PM me if you are interested. Allinvain can vouch for me, I just apparently am the world's worst bitfury rig setup guy Sad.

PM me - will sell anything up to 8 H-cards - less than 1/2 the price of retail, 0.275 each shipped. I also posted in the marketplace section, but it's quite entertaining to see the 'experts of the experts' come here re: bitfury.

Damned things! I want to love them but ... ARRGGGHHH!!!

PM me if interested!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=502912.0

Yup dropped the price a bit already. Just trying to be (gasp) fair.

ARRRGGHH!!  I dislike the word fair!
107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How do crummy companies like BFL and Hashfast manage to stay in business? on: March 06, 2014, 09:46:13 AM
Pre-orders: just say no.

Disagree. If we all did this products like the KnC Jupiter would not exist today because no one would fully fund such a risky endeavor. I think the correct way to look at this is - make informed buying decisions. There is a reason some people stayed away from HF/BFL and the lot.

More to the point though the reason why BFL and HF are still in business is because they can afford to - they have raised enough money to stay in business for a while longer... at least until they can pretend they fulfilled their contractual obligations so that they don't end up rotting in some jail.

I doubt that anyone who is sane, capable of reading and doing some basic research would buy from these guys again... but then again we've had people here that chose to buy the Monarch so maybe there are some people that just don't get it. That's good news though for sellers!  Grin

I agree that preorders aren't the best for the consumer, and would advise against them,  Hypothetically if none of the asic companies would have been able to get off the ground due to lack of funding (which I sincerely doubt.. see: bitmain and asicminer) why would that have been a bad thing?  It isn't like the bitcoin network needed the asics.  In my opinion the asics made bitcoin mining less attractive. People paying even more per gigahash for a product that doesn't even exist, and by the time they receive it (if at all) will be nearly obsolete.  Is it hard to see that the only people making money from mining are the hardware people, not the miners.
108  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Name this US 220V@30A wall socket please on: March 06, 2014, 05:11:01 AM
Worst case they'll force you to put it back, which again takes no time or money.
Incorrect.

Likely case is they make you pay for their licensed electrician to come in and put it back at whatever rate the local union charges.  Even worse is the house burns down and the fire marshal sees your "mod" and declares it your fault causing the landlords insurance company to back out and point at you.  But, enough fear mongering Wink

What you have is a nema 10-30 plug.  Commonly known as an "old dryer plug".  There is no easy way of safely converting it to a nema 6-30 unless someone ran four wires to the box and only hooked up 3.  But looking at the vintage of that plug I would consider that unlikely.  That outlet has two lives and a neutral.  There is no ground.  Don't get me going on how someone could come up with a design that has a 110/220 volt appliance in a laundry room that is not grounded ... that's another story.

The "correct" thing would be to upgrade that plug to a "new dryer plug" which is a nema 14-30.  That will give you both lives for 220 along with neutral for 120 and ground.  You can safely piglead convert that to a nema 6-30.  Your landlord can not stop you from performing that upgrade by a licensed electrician in most states.  He may even split the cost.

Disclaimer: I am not a licensed electrician and this post does not constitute advice.  But please, verify what you have been told since much of what precedes my post is not only wrong, but dangerous.  A piglead conversion from a nema 10-30 to a 6-30 would be ungrounded.

incorrect.  the old drier plug has a ground and 2 hot leads.  Although it is an irrelevant argument because the neutral is bonded to ground at the meter, at the transformer on the pole and most of the time inside the panel. Although the function of them is different,  In most cases the only difference between the ground and the neutral is the color.

I could make you an adapter pigtail.
110  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How do crummy companies like BFL and Hashfast manage to stay in business? on: March 06, 2014, 02:41:15 AM
Supply and demand, it's pretty simple actually.  Until those two conditions equal out a little more you really only have a couple of choices when it comes to mining.  You can ride the bull and hope like hell you don't get hurt or sit in the stands and watch the excitement.

Well said.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't it impossible to steal bitcoins anonymously? on: March 06, 2014, 02:35:27 AM

We are definitely in two different jurisdictions! In my country, and in the whole Europe as far as I know, it works like this: If I buy a property from you and I have no reason to suspect the fact that you are not the legitimate owner, that property cannot be taken away from me and given back to the original owner. He should go against the thief to have his loss refunded.  BUT, it's not enough to say that I must be in good faith: if I failed to make any reasonable check about the legitimate property, I would not be in good faith. Typical example could be the following: I go to a local market where a guy i selling a bunch of car radio sets, all in perfect conditions (or even new) at a price that is way too low to be legitimate. I can't be in good faith as it's quite obvious that something is wrong.

Oh,  Where I am at, if it is mine, and is stolen it is still mine if it is found, as far as physical goods. I dont know about cash and of course hypothetically bitcoin.
112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't it impossible to steal bitcoins anonymously? on: March 06, 2014, 02:32:59 AM
bitcoins are anonymous way to trade and hey are non reversible so i don't think you can trace someone down if they steal your BTCBTCBTC

Did you read the entire thread?
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't it impossible to steal bitcoins anonymously? on: March 05, 2014, 09:13:36 AM

Depending on the jurisdiction and the applicable Law, usually a third party in good faith will not see the money he received confiscated and returned to the owner. Just like in the case you mentioned. Unless you can prove that the third party was aware or could have reasonably know that those funds where coming from an illicit activity.

However a physical item, the same rule doesn't apply? or is that jurisdictional also.  The guy who bought my equipment paid a normal price for it, and really had no way to know it was stolen, but he is still out the money and the equipment. Is it not like that everywhere?
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't it impossible to steal bitcoins anonymously? on: March 05, 2014, 09:10:08 AM
I myself have been robbed of bitcoins and as many said here, you can only simply watch them being used without you being able to do anything about it.
It's very hard to get the coins back as even if you knew how to hack a wallet or get them back, the hacker obviously would take precautions so he wouldn't be able to have the same thing done to him.

If this reply was directed to me, I wasn't talking about hacking, say for example a retail store uses the same wallet address for all of its transactions.  I follow my coins to the retail store btc address, I can send the 5-0 down to that store and tell them they have my bitcoins now, they probably didn't steal them, but they have them, just like my piece of equipment, I can prove they are mine(with the blockchain) will the police take them and return them to me,(even if they cant determine who the thief is)
115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't it impossible to steal bitcoins anonymously? on: March 05, 2014, 09:00:38 AM
I have a semi relevant question that I am curious if anyone has the answer.  A while ago I had a piece of equipment stolen from me.  I later found that equipment in the hands of someone who purchased it from the thief.  The sheriff took the equipment and will return it to me, and the guy who bought it is just screwed.  When someone steals your bitcoin, then the thief sells the bitcoin.  I (for some reason or another) find out who has my btc(the guy who bought it, not the thief) do you think the law would view it as my property and return it to me?  How would that work?  I would assume if someone steals my cash, then goes to walmart and buys a flatscreen, and it can be proven he used my stolen cash to buy it, the police wouldn't take cash  from walmart and give it back to me(would they?)
116  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Residential Limit 15amp or 20amp? on: February 28, 2014, 06:54:02 AM
I just had 2 of these 30 amp 240 volt lines with 10 gauge wiring installed and running the APC 9571 PDU on each of them. This past weekend when the temperatures got in the 80s the circuit breakers got really warm (I could still hold my hand to them, but barely) to the touch and the plugs at the wall were each very warm. Should I be worried about this? I can't imagine what will happen when the temps get up to 100 degrees. Now that it's cooled off again everything is nice and cool. I'm running 19 amps on each one.

19amps? as in you measured it?

Also, What does the outdoor temp matter? Do you not air condition your house?

Yes I measured it with one of those things with a claw that goes over the wire and tells you the amperage. The fuse box is outside and I set the AC to 85. How does any of this help answer my question?

Wire and breakers will get warm when running large current(proportionate to their diameter) even within the range that is considered safe or acceptable.

If wire is running in an unconditioned space, and is subject to high ambient temperature, then it should be derated in addition to the derating for a constant load.

The wire in normal conditions is rated for 30amp, derated 20 percent for constant load is 24amp if your setup is properly installed, not exposed to excessive ambient temperature and your reading of 19amps is accurate, then it would be my opinion that it is probably ok, your idea of warm could be different than mine.

The best advice that I can give without actually looking at it myself would be that if it concerns you, call your electrician back over on a warm day.  A service call is a very inexpensive piece of mind.
117  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Residential Limit 15amp or 20amp? on: February 28, 2014, 06:44:52 AM
Is the claw rated for 240 volts? Usually they look for the inductance based on a single hot (120), not two hots (240)

Just a thought.

C

I have never seen a clamp meter that is rated for less than 600v, and that rating is for arc hazard and has nothing to do with accuracy.  amperage is amperage doesn't matter the voltage.
118  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Stand-offs? on: February 28, 2014, 06:39:50 AM
In an open air case that has non metallic base, are Stand-offs for MOBO really needed?
Is there any big reason why you think the HDD and PSU's should be fixed with screws instead of having them loose but steady?

Are the standoffs nesaccary, probably not, but they cost almost nothing, why are you even asking.

Yes you should secure the powersupply and hdd with screws, again not expensive or very time consuming but makes it alot easier if you need to move them.

Good day, I`m interested on mining Bitcoins and I have to invest arround 14k $ , what is the best equipement I can buy now or say 1 mounth from now so that I can make a profit, i don`t pay electricity and I would like to know how to build it myself just if you could give me some pointers on what exactly to buy ,from where and what could be the best prices for equipement? how much hash rate should i get for my money?

A few comments for you.

Right now and a month from now are two totally different answers.

Right now! If it was me I would buy a whole shitload of antminers.

A month from now, Is anyone's guess.

Even though you don't pay for electricity, are you sure that you have enough available for the equipment?

Build it yourself?? what does that mean?
