261  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: need to buy 4.25btc paypal on: December 18, 2013, 04:13:57 AM
I had 5 people reply via pm, I am very uneasy about it.  Paypal has a no refunds on intangible items policy.  I have a paypal balance from selling items, and that is what I wanted to use to purchase the btc.  I know if I got screwed and used my debit card/credit card via paypal I could just call the card company and it is no big deal, but I am unsure how it would work with the intangible goods policy and paypal funds.  BTC-E unlocked my account today anyway, and the group buy I wanted to get in on is now closed, so the whole thing is moot now, however what is the easiest ways to purchase btc in the future?  I looked around on local bitcoin, but the rates are higher than gox or coinbase.
4.25BTC sounds like you want buy antminer, there is a new group for another 150 or more units.

The best way is bitstamp or gox or any of your local exchanger. Where you are located?

I am located in Nebraska,  That is good that they are doing another groupbuy, I will have to get on that.  I have the btc for it now.  I have been using my gpu to mine litecoins and had accumulated a qty of them.  I decided I wanted to buy an antminer so I used btc-e to exchange them.  Btc-e changed out my ltc for btc but wouldn't let me withdraw them for 3 days, and I was sure the group buy would run out of stock before they unlocked my btc.  Paypal is the only way I knew of to transfer money online and quickly(besides btc of course) so I was low on options.

I looked at the local option, the closed person to me is 140 miles.(we are kind of spread out over here) and he wanted 15% more than gox.

If you are considering hiring an electrician to install a dedicated outlet(s) for you mining rig there are a few things to consider.

It will be less expensive for an electrician to install a single 240v outlet for your equipment rather than standard outlets, however the items to connect your equipment to your outlet is less common and usually more expensive with 240v
264  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power Supply to Overclock Prospero X-3? on: December 18, 2013, 03:04:15 AM
In the UK they use 200 volt over two pins, because a and b phase are not in sync they can be shared.

In north america we don't do that. we use two seperate pin's for 220,

in reality you could jsut splice, but that fucks your whole house up.

You need to buy an adapter, converter or what ever. It's NOT cheap to run a 200 volt plug in north america.

Just get a 20 amp plug in and be done with it.

Your electrical company does not charge you by the amp, but by the Kw. This is an equation from volts/amps drawn. so as voltage increases, amps do indeed decrease but your Kw hours stay the same.

Not worth the money Wink

Donations to my wallet are always welcome. lmao  Grin

I'm an aircraft electrician I work with 300 volts 3 phase regularly.

That does not make me confident in flying.

I realize this is kind of speculation, but if overclocking the X–3 is practical, I’d suspect it would be pretty worthwhile for the first month or two. At least until all the TH/s miners get out and installed.

In the specs for the X–3 there’s this note:

Quote
Note: In theory the ASICs could be overclocked up to 128 Ghash/second but we cannot guarantee this until thorough testing. This would raise the speed up to 2560 Ghash/second but will increase the power dramatically which will not be supported by the supplied PSU.

And later:

Quote
It has been designed to be: Over-clocked with around 20%. Increasing the voltage might be required. If voltage is increased, the efficiency will drop.

Given: Power Consumption (Watt): 1050

Can we assume that we would need a PSU with 1050 + 20% = 1260W capacity? Is there any chance that a second, low capacity PSU could be added, rather than purchasing a 1200+ unit for several hundred dollars?

Should I expect this to be plug-and-play to swap the new power supply in? I’ve built a PC before, so am ok with that, if that’s about the skill level that would likely be required.

Finally, does this look right for power in the US, with 120 volt service? 1200 Watts / 120 volts = 10 amps. So I’d need service with at least 10 amps per machine?

Thanks!
-Tom

It could be possible you could use multiple power supplies.  It will depend entirely on how the unit is laid out electrically on the inside.  I am sure that it will use more than one connector to get power from the power supply.  As long each of the connectors are electrically isolated from each other you would be fine, however if they are bonded anywhere inside the unit=smoketown.  Although sidehack may be correct about using server power supplies.  I am not sure how the vreg works with them, so it could be a maybe.

I read/heard somewhere that 20A is pretty standard per circuit in the US, Don't quote me on it, I would like a definite answer as well.

Also, have you preordered it yet? I'm trying to preorder it and the website is saying they don't ship to the US.  I'm not able to complete the checkout due to the shipping address I entered.

Yes 20 is common, 15 is also common. Most electricians will run 20amp outlet circuits, however some jobs are done on the cheap and will only have 15amp. Keep in mind that even thought the circuit is rated at 20 amp the receptacles  are usually not.

This is a 15 amp receptacle

Also most residential homes don't have 208v dual phase.  they have 240v split phase
267  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How to turn on rig without power button? on: December 16, 2013, 10:24:05 AM
You could always use those jumper pins you place on the pins of the hard-drive, they should reach. Should keep it tidy too without a cable. Just a suggestion  Cheesy

You would have to put it on then quickly remove it every time, Otherwise the mobo would just continuously turn on and off.

Screwdriver all the way Smiley

Screwdriver absolutely!!!!!  Occasionally I use my keys if I don't have a screwdriver handy.
269  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: need to buy 4.25btc paypal on: December 15, 2013, 08:09:33 AM
Possibly.  I have had one individual offer to sell me 1.5btc, but they have a very low post count.  Am I at risk at all by using paypal?

I know 3 days isn't very long, but I wanted to get in on a group buy that I am sure will be sold out in 3 days.

Also I am furious at btc-e, those fuckers caused this problem in the first place, I should have just got on here.  Surely I could have found someone trusted to trade ltc for btc, but I though btc-e would be faster and easier.  Instant they said......
270  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: need to buy 4.25btc paypal on: December 15, 2013, 08:01:25 AM
No one will sell you that much via PP on this board.
You're better off withdrawing you money and buying via localbitcoins in cash Smiley

I would prefer to do that, but it takes 3 business days to withdraw from paypal, and all of my btc is on lockdown at btc-e for 3 days
271  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: need to buy 4.25btc paypal on: December 15, 2013, 07:50:20 AM
Title says it all.  I need to buy 4.25 btc with paypal

Sorry mate but very few people would be willing to trade 3K via Paypal as in all likelihood you'll just chargeback and run with the BTC. Another issue is your new account with no trust whatsoever, so I'd advise you that this does look like another scam.

I wouldn't chargeback as long as I received what I paid for, but I understand the fear.  The bad people make things alot more difficult for the honest trader.  I just had hoped someone would come through. BTC-e is holding my btc and  are making me wait 3 days to withdraw it, and I need to make a purchase now.  I also hope that my request, even if unanswered, doesn't put question to me in the future.

273  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan for 2.25btc on: December 15, 2013, 03:17:19 AM
I just traded LTC for BTC and was able to withdrawal instantly.  You need to email btc-e and let them know about the problem.  I can email them for you if you like.   It says this on the front page of btc-e.

Our advantages:

    Trading in automatic mode.
Addition USD deposits within 24 hour
    Instant deposit/withdrawal all coin
    USD Withdrawal within 72 hours

I opened support ticket, but the automated response said it could take 72hrs. I think I am just hosed.
274  Economy / Lending / Loan for 2.25btc on: December 15, 2013, 01:57:46 AM
Hello, I am now in bit of a pickle.   I reserved a spot in a group buy, assuming no big deal.  I setup an account at btc-e to trade some ltc to btc.  Btc-e made the trade easy enough, but now they say I need to wait 3 days to withdraw my btc.  Is anyone willing to make a loan for 2.25btc for 3 days, and what fee would you want for your service?  Thanks

277  Economy / Speculation / Re: Apple bans bitcoin aps on: December 11, 2013, 10:57:46 AM
The only real disadvantage to android is all the spying,(and a determined individual can stop that due to androids semi open nature and root access) but with apple you can have the spying + so much more

-censorship
-sweatshops
-planned obsoleteness
-closed development
-"extreme douchbaggary"

Hey but atleast its hip, because we all need to look cool and different, even if that means we shell out a shitload of money for products that we aren't allowed to let do what we want.

What is the connection between sushi and bitmain?  I must have missed something?
279  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Motherboard designed for mining, and better riser cables in this thread. on: December 11, 2013, 08:15:46 AM

I remember they used to be expensive, or DIY only even, but anymore they are the same price it seems. I bought a bunch of the USB riser cables for less than $10, and they were $14.99 on ebay at the time. The cheap ribbon cable powered ones are still ~$6 or so.

Where did you find those cables for less than 10 bucks?
280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 10 GPU LTC Rig configuration? on: December 11, 2013, 07:52:34 AM
FWIW

1. This is a BTC mining subforum, so your thread will likely be moved soon by a mod.  Just a heads up.

2. I am developing a device which will allow you to get clean reliable 12v 1000w power for <$80~120, but it'll be about 2 weeks before I can actually release the first bath.  PM me for more info.

3. I am planning to have available, bulk quantities of 1x -> 16x PCI-e powered risers avail next week.

This rig he is intending to build will produce $83 dollars a day in ltc. If he waits two weeks to buy a power supply and pci extenders from you he will loose $1162 for the wait.  Doesn't add up to me.
