Yea, wish I had sold ASAP. Was getting one namecoin block of 50 per day when I started... (which I roughly worked out was 3x BTC mining profit at the time in relation to the exchange rate/my daily pooled BTC mining rate). Did expect the exchange rate to hold up, and it was my first experience of difficulty increase. Thankyou for the info relating to why it has not It could be cyclical. I think there's a pretty high chance that Namecoins will increase in value alongside Bitcoin increasing with value (compared to dollar). When? Just as a long term trend I meant.

It would make sense that someone who puts BTC onto MtGox has the intention of selling them at some point.
A big question is what the 500k BTC deposit is going to do. If these start flowing, they'll probably cycle through a few speculators and drive price down until they're distributed.
An interesting fact is that if the holder is good in psychology, he might be able to trigger a crash or prevent a bubble or do other things too expensive on normal markets. With the prices pushing quite high compared to the amount of BTC some people have, those few are a non-negligible force on the market.
And unlike on other markets, one can't just assume their actions will be sane. Though it appears at least one has thought of a non-disruptive method: someone appeared to be selling a constant, small stream of BTC while mtgox was still running. But how can we be sure that's the one with the biggest wallet? Time will tell, I guess.
The 500k BTC deposit is probably Mtgox's master account.

Once Mt. Gox opens, a lot of people will either sell their bitcoins, cashout, or make a withdrawal transfer. We're looking at a 50% withdrawal rate on the first day of opening. And then when that happens, you can forget the 30 bucks per share (btc). The result of too many people selling coins will be deflate bitcoin selling price. Not to mention the 56% rise of difficulty.
Let's rock!
I feel kind of bad for you... there is no way you could compete with others in this market with such faulty logic. I would advise you to only invest for the long term, and stay away from short-term trading.

MtGox has a lot of Bitcoins tied up that may go onto the auction block soon, driving the price down. At least I hope that's what will happen because i want to pick up some bargains.
I think many people will withdraw their Bitcoins to their wallets, which could possibly increase prices with less sellers.

The majority of users are stuck in Mt. Gox. We'll see what happens when it reopens.
That majority of coins are in people's wallets.

Prices just hit 17 at TradeHill. Do you guys still expect it to plummet to the single digits? Otherwise, if it stays this high, is this surprising to you and are you going to change your economic theories?

except that anything made in sl is just as worthless as bitcoins... lol....
sl will replace the USD one day, it's inevitable! the funny thing is, people were saying similar things at the heights of the SL hype. not replace, but that it'll be used for real world trade. what is sl? Bitcoin will not replace US currency until you can pay your taxes with it and my mother can understand it. Second Life.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A question to all speculators - What if Bitcoins' price just flatline?
|
on: June 24, 2011, 02:38:20 PM

Well, we are making progress. Trolls dont think Bitcoin is going to collapse, now the problem is that they will stay stable.
When it was volatile they were bad because they were volatile, and now that they are stable for some days, they are bad because they are stable... Some people are never happy.
The trolls will never go away. If it climbs in price, it's a bubble. If it stays the same, it's stagnating. When it drops, it's a collapse. When it moves up and down, it's too volatile to invest in.

So, what we will make "Goxed" stand for?
a) Be scammed: «Hey dude! You'd been goxed!»
b) A place where they do things their way without give a damn for what others may think or not of it: «Jizz man! That place's admin is such a gox!»
c) A place that lacks basic security opening its users to be hacked: «That site is such a gox!» or «Got goxed by using site X!»
When someone takes something of yours, and they keep saying they'll get it back, but they don't. Like "Hey man can I borrow your bike?" "Sure" 2 days later... "Can I have my bike back?" "Ok, tomorrow" Next day... "It's tomorrow, can I have my bike back?" "Sorry, need another day" Next day... "Now can I??" "Tomorrow I can return the bike" Goxed.
