741  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can BCH surpass BTC in payment functionality? on: May 21, 2018, 01:12:21 PM
If BTC continues to struggle BCH will definitely be ready to climb the ladder--BCH has advantages with quicker, cheaper transactions and there are many reasons to see its potential.

but isn't the debate more about whether or not it's the best route to take(to go the same way as bch has)? I mean, bitcoin can obviously be changed to work as bitcoin cash, but there's pros and cons involved, it's not only about which is cheaper and faster at the current stage, there's more to consider, like ensuring security
742  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Configure wallet on: May 21, 2018, 09:26:34 AM
Yes as earlier poster wrote, just to make sure it's clear: you can receive any ERC-token to your wallet, and they can be seen from etherscan.io (search your public key).
If you try to send them using for example MyEtherWallet, and it's a new token, you probably have to add the token contract by clicking 'Add Custom Token' inside MEW.
You can get the contract adress by going to your etherscan.io wallet, clicking the token and there you see the contract adress.

So, simply put, if any ERC token is sent to your ETH wallet adress, it's safe even if you've 'added' it in MEW:

I guess you can't really protect yourself from this things.

Yes, you can. The OP cites exchange hacks/collapses specifically -- you can protect yourself from those by not storing money on exchanges. When you want to sell, withdraw the fiat money immediately.

Most of your coins should be in cold storage. No online connection makes hackers and malware less of an issue. Encrypted wallets on flash drives and paper wallets are common methods for storage. Be sure to make multiple backups and keep them safe from the elements.

But what are the odds that you get scammed? That would be interesting to know.
By the way it's interesting site. Will definitely read all of it.

The biggest pitfalls are social engineering and phishing attacks. If you are good at recognizing suspicious emails, etc. and you don't download untrusted files or visit risky websites, it's pretty unlikely you'll fall prey to a malware attack.

Yes I get your point but aren't cold storage and paper/hardware wallets good for long term investing or hodling and not for trading?
Isn't that too much of a hassle for a daily trader?
Also shouldn't phishing/suspicious e-mails/etc. be resolved on some systematic level? I mean if your antivirus can block connection to some bad site, why can't yahoo or gmail do the same for e-mails? They already know what's written inside of your mail and they can scan for malware-ous links.

are you trading everything you own every day?
it's up to you how far you go to secure your funds, just don't be disappointed if something happens and you knew you didn't take the full security measures :/
744  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why don't Neabie participate in signture campaign on: May 20, 2018, 01:48:56 PM
considering how many accounts people theoretically could use to spam-create accounts as "Newbie" and get bounty-rewards for signature, it's a good solution.
you need ~5 weeks to get 30 activity points, then you become a jr. member!
745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can We Finally Call This the DEATH of Bitcoin?!? on: May 19, 2018, 06:41:28 PM
The death of bitcoin?
did you get scammed or something or why are you taking out so much anger on something like this?
Bitcoin is still up multiple thousand times from it's start, even crashing from 20k to 6k isn't bad long-term.
a good way to get rid of the weak hands!  Cheesy
746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: USD Coin – New Cryptocurrency Introduced to You by Goldman Sachs on: May 19, 2018, 04:40:13 PM
Isn't part of the idea of crypto to replace worthless fiat backed by nothing?
Kinda seems like a misstep, but we already use Tether so, why not.
Maybe it'd help adoption, and Tether seems to be in trouble, so if a reliable and trustworthy replacement came, that'd probably do good.
747  Economy / Speculation / Re: how long bitcoin survive under 10K on: May 19, 2018, 04:35:14 PM
A bit of stability isn't bad, for bitcoin's purpose, it's far better to hover around 8k rather than pumping up 50% for a day!
Currently it seems like the market is really just working for the big players that can dump/pump to earn more.
748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash on: May 19, 2018, 01:35:43 PM
During the past few weeks, the BCH exchange rate has increased by as much as 200%. I was never a big fan of BCH and in the future also it may remain the same, but it is impossible to ignore such a huge spike.

as you said, a spike, not really due to organic growth, Roger pumping his own coin Cheesy
just as any investment, people take profits, so if something does cause a coin to pump alot, it'll dump soon enough, unless there's a solid reason for the pump.
which in BCH case, there really isn't, is there? should be organic growth while taking market dominance from BTC, logically
749  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to obtain coin information expect here ? on: May 19, 2018, 01:33:05 PM
I wrote a guide on analysing ICOs, if you check it you might find something useful, it's also good information to apply to any crypto investment, ICO or not.

what do you mean by 'valuable coin information'? are you still referring to ICOs? or just crypto in general?

751  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC again Fall down at 7k?! on: May 18, 2018, 07:27:08 AM
No one can tell us if the price will go back to $7,000 again, just keep updated to the news in order for you to know what can possibly to the price on the next coming days.

That was true, being much active and updated not only in news but in actual movements in the market will be the best things that we can kept so we can be much aware to the fluctuations of bitcoin.  Whether it's dumping or pumping it's non sense if we are not be continuously updated into it. However, at all times we just be the same because we cannot predict it's exactly value that can be until we will see it in the present time.

I'm certain it's not really about news and such, it's the big companies that are moving the market to liquidate those who are shorting/longing, to win the most(I think)
that would explain why we can hover around a price, then suddenly flash dump, then up again..  Shocked

752  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can BCH surpass BTC in payment functionality? on: May 18, 2018, 07:25:57 AM
Think that you run your own company (ex. CryptoCCknow Inc.) and one of your clients, copy your business idea increase the capacity, decrease the fees and promotes the new company as CryptoCCknow Cash Inc. Technically everything is the same except capacity and CryptoCCknow Cash Inc. has a huge promotion budget that earned from CryptoCCknow Inc. shares

Would you think that CryptoCCknow Cash Inc. surpass your company in functionality?

bad example because in real world if yo steal a companies name and logo they will sue your ass and seize all your assets and also you will have to pay a hefty fine for fraud, maybe even spend some time behind bars. for example if i started a company named Microsoft Cash i will be performing fraud specially if i go around telling people my company is the real Microsoft Cheesy

Interesting point, but doesn't really work in crypto which you seem to acknowledge, but it's a very fair point.
Not only the name, but also pretending to be the Bitcoin - the 'real' one or not, misleading people looking for "Bitcoin" into buying "Bitcoin Cash"..
It's bad for the crypto community as a whole that there's this internal conflict, I hope it comes to an end soon..

The market is struggling to keep up it seems like. We were really close to 10k, fell down to around 8.5k, and now hovering with a lower high every day..
I think we might be in for a (temporary) bad time  Angry
755  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash on: May 17, 2018, 09:06:36 AM
Bitcoin Cash's apparent goals are to create a highly centralized coin. But then trick people into think it is Bitcoin. Don't fall for the scam people. Bitcoin Cash has zero future. If it were to succeed it would be centralized it's success would be it's failure. They're really cornered themselves by opting for unscalable scalability. And now probably because they realize they have no chance as a payment platform they are trying to turn it into an Ethereum competitor. I guess if you can't do one thing well, do a bunch of things poorly. That should be Bitcoin Cash's motto.

Won't Lightning Network be highly centralized and in the end, every transaction will be going through there anyway?
756  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Basics of Crypto on: May 17, 2018, 08:37:38 AM
Someone tells me that Bitcoin doesn't have any function except a coin, Etherium is much better with smart contrast, is it right? Because I don't know which coin to start invest.

Bitcoin should be able to add new functionality in the future, but currently I don't think it's as straight forward as Ethereum, Ethereum is more aimed at tokens/contracts currently(and other platforms aswell).
However, both are good investments in my opinion  Cheesy

first there was decentralized currency(Bitcoin), then smartcontracts(Ethereum), then we'll see  Smiley
757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the options for the future? on: May 17, 2018, 08:36:04 AM
Depending on the expiration cycle, some futures options expire to cash, while others expire to the underlying futures contract. Futures options will expire into cash when the options and futures expire in the same month. If the options and the future expire in different months, the options settle to the future

That was a bit confusing to me, sorry what do you mean?  Shocked
758  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet choice/safety guide! on: May 17, 2018, 08:35:14 AM
I personally store my coins in several wallets, for a spendable amount i use blockchain.info either for storing btc or ethereum. I'm currently holding a lot of amount of tokens in myetherwallet it may be dangerous since there are so many phishing sites out there and people recommending to move my balance from there. I think I'm gonna go with the hardware wallet, it's pretty safe than those I've just mentioned above.

With atleast Trezor, probably with any hardware wallet, you can keep as many addresses as you want!
so with this one little device you can have 10 bitcoin wallets, 10 ethereum wallets, etc it's great, definitely worth it!  Cheesy
759  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your favorite hardware wallet? on: May 17, 2018, 07:41:19 AM
I personally prefer the Ledger Nano S due to it's simple USB flash drive design. If I were to have huge investments in cryptocurrency I'd want it to be stored on a device that doesn't look like something that holds great value; hence I love that it's sort of somewhat masqueraded as a typical USB flash drive. I personally don't like the Trezor due to it looking too sort of "gimmicky".

That's a really good point.

I got a Trezor primarily due to shipping time difference, was months for Ledger Nano.
While Ledger Nano does support some more coins, I personally don't use many other than btc/eth/erc so it's fine  Grin
An important 'selling point' for Trezor, I think is that it's open source, which means people can verify that nothing suspicious is going on.
Sure it's probably possible somehow to backdoor Trezor, but still, who knows if Ledger Nano team has an 'Exit Button' that sends everyones funds to them!  Cheesy Cheesy
760  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: (eth) wallet + general safety tips on: May 17, 2018, 06:20:50 AM
Yeah they can use USDT but that's just really another cryptocurrency and I certainly do not trust USDT although sometimes I'm forced into using it. I definitely think it's not safe to have a lot of USDT because it can collapse at any moment. Personally if I want to hold fiat for long periods of time I use bitstamp or any other exchange that supports real USD.

I see, about trusting USDT, are you referring to the idea of having one pegged to USDT or do you mean the company backing USDT isn't trustworthy?
I know there were lots of discussion about USDT in the start of the year, but seems like nothing bad came from the audit?
also isn't there a couple of new various real-world currency pegged crypto? I think so, like DAI is one.
although I'm not qualified to say which one is better of anything like that, what is your opinion?

Which audit are you talking about? As far as I know they haven't had a real audit yet. https://cointelegraph.com/news/canceled-audit-and-issuance-of-300-mln-new-tokens-whats-going-on-with-tether

Oh, that's my mistake.. hmm, concerning what might happen then, seeing as people are saying Tether is somehow pumping Bitcoin..!  Shocked
