Over 5 years that's $0.1008*(12*5)=$6

You don't see a problem with that? The cost of electricity alone is 3x what they bring in from each customer.

+ it would easily be double that in cooling and a facility able to host 375TH/s for 5 years that's a pretty serious set up you'd need your own sub station running that much power. It's most likely just a case of how long it goes on for now. If you have broke even already it's lucky but it's horrible to think it's probably other peoples money
142  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Rig Data Center Hosting on: May 11, 2014, 07:47:42 PM
Looked around at Data Center Colocation for a while. In the Uk they only seem to offer a maximum of 32amps @ 230v per cabinet.

This is at the most 3 Terraminers which would be one very empty 42u cabinet !

We're making our own mining facility now with 96 Amps per cabinet balanced across 3 phases, raised access floor and climate controlled cold aisle.

Biggest problem is the sheer amount of power they need we're having to apply to the national grid to get the power cables upgraded coming into the building.

Typical data centers aren't really set up for mining hardware they're designed for task critical servers using around 3-500w
143  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Rig Data Center Hosting on: May 11, 2014, 07:34:11 PM
I'm looking at approx £750 for a full 42u cabinet with 8A (1.8KW) power presentation...  if you're looking though watch out for A- Hefty setup fee's and b-n nasty connectivity charges.  With mining you don't need a 10G lease line...

I could fit 10x 1TH/s miners plus a switch into a 42u rack but I have no idea if 8A (1.8KW) is enough power though  Huh

Each Terraminer uses just over 9Amp @ 230v you 90+ amps per 42U cabinet
144  Economy / Economics / Re: Is anyone else tired of hearing bad Bitcoin news ?! on: April 13, 2014, 04:47:23 PM
good or bad news
is good news for bitcoin to spread awareness at this point

I suppose, I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories or anything but it just seems like something weird is happening the volume of bad stories is crazy all saying the same pointless obvious things with very similar comments at the bottom.
145  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PBmining - legit? on: April 13, 2014, 02:03:23 PM
Now add in the fact that they're mixing the coins. Rather odd. Why would they want to obscure the source of the coin? The security excuse doesn't hold water, but mixing coins sure produces a nice cover for whatever you're doing on the back end if it would be "inconvenient" for someone to find out.

This is a key point. They say they are mixing to stay safe? The only untraceable coins are mined coins. If they really were mining, they would have the safest coins possible. Mixing is proof they are doing something wrong.

Couldn't agree more!
146  Economy / Economics / Is anyone else tired of hearing bad Bitcoin news ?! on: April 11, 2014, 09:14:42 AM
I'm getting a bit bored of countless bad news stories regarding Bitcoin that are mostly pointless or just stating the obvious.

Has anyone got any good news ?
147  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: did anyone try alpha-miners.com? on: March 24, 2014, 09:35:23 PM
Rates are ok but the customer service could need some improvements.

Is this about us ?

Why the heck do you think anything in this thread has something to do with you or your company?

thanks for your replies guys, I agree with you riekinho and my main fear is they claim they want to stay anonymous, and also yes prices seem to good to be true compared to most other clouds mining I was researching, I am now more oriented toward groupbitcoin.com , did anyone try that one? they have address and contact number and seem to be based in london, it seems more trustworthy to me Smiley

Maybe you didn't read the thread from the start?...

The guy that made this thread also mentioned us in another very similar thread they started.

I'd rather we weren't considered similar to such obvious scam sites like this Alpha thing. That is all.

Very unhappy to be in the same general conversation as this obvious scam site.

Also quite depressing none of our members have come to the rescue to say we're genuine.

We've got some reviews on our site using a thing called Yotpo, it verifies reviewers through their email or social media accounts, could be faked with a bit of difficulty but it's not. Also number 1 on cloudminingreviews.com these things are good but don't hold much weight, it would have been a lot nicer to see a few people back us up!

We're not interested in a quick buck we're here to stay, If you live near London give us a ring and come and meet us, we've just moved into a new unit and will be putting some pictures up of our server room soon.

Also working on a whole new Joomla site with live stats, as with all Bitcoin businesses we're relatively new, started in October 2013.
150  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: did anyone try groupbitcoin.com for cloud mining? on: March 05, 2014, 06:00:27 PM
hello, I was looking for a good cloud mining service, I initially was going for alpha miners but I don't trust the fact that they are anonymous and I found zero reviews online on them, i'm afraid it might be a scam, I have found a couple of reviews of groupbitcoin.com , also they have an address and a phone number and they are based in london, they seem to be legitimate but before putting any money into it I was wondering if any of you guys ever tried them and can confirm they are ok, or if you have any recommendation about a similar service. Thank you!

We have some reviews on our site. Reviews - http://www.groupbitcoin.com/pages/customer-reviews

We also have some on cloudminingreviews.com

Never heard of alpha miners but there is a TONNE of scams at the moment be careful.

153  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Not] Good price at CEX.io on: February 19, 2014, 04:30:31 PM
With the whole Ant miners vs cex.io statement no one ever seems to mention they use 3-400w of power, import tax, effort, noise, heat... If you run more than 10 you're likely to need a new ring main in the UK, and with average electricity prices at 17p per Kwh it does sometimes make sense cloud mining it's not as simple as saying this is crap this is great... mining varies a lot on the country and lots of other variables with physical hardware it doesn't just stop at the cost price of the unit even if you steal the electricity.

Most of these factors and variables I always included in my calculations, that's self-explanatory. None of the factors (combined) even remotely remedy the price disadvantage offered by cex.io - unless you happen to live in a country with electricity priced 10x higher than yours or import taxes in excess of 40% (i.e. in a country currently engaged in an active trade war)... AND for some reason you'd have to be cut off from buying BTC directly (which you'd be insane not to do with such extremely bad mining prerequisites at hand).

If your house can't handle 400W of power or the noise, then you have entirely different issues and mining should be the least of them. If you have the money to buy & run 10 AntMiners, you won't run AntMiners anyway (you'd have to be batshit crazy or a fool). You'll naturally buy & own a KNC miner or comparable highend gear instead.
Can't handle 1000W load or the noise in your home? - seriously forget BTC alltogether and move to a better home with modern electricity/construction standards first.

Anyway, if you happen to be in such an unlucky position, then you may consider biting into a bad apple rather than having none at all. May be a factor in north korea, but likely not in the rest of the world. Buying BTC directly would be your primary choice anyway.

I think you misunderstood what I said a bit, I'm not a huge fan cex.io but I don't agree with people just quoting the cost price of mining hardware as a comparison to cex.io or anything else.

In the UK a standard ring main takes 16amps the one for the kitchen does 32amp for electric ovens and kettles etcetera...

10 Antminers which wouldn't be crazy it's one of the best options for physical hardware that delivers now I think everyone would agree with that... anyway 10 would take up all the capacity of a ring main in the UK

Running one ant miner 24/7 for a year would be around £4-500 in electricity on a standard home tariff that's not including cooling I'm currently running 4 + other stuff and the air cons working quite hard to maintain the ambient temps in the room + import tax 20% in the UK it all adds up !

It's not as simple as everything else is crap buy hardware

No one sensible would take Paypal for Bitcoin it's just too risky.
155  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What shall we do in the Summer? on: February 19, 2014, 02:58:47 AM
I'll be switching over to water cooled. Smiley

It will be a steep price upfront, but the piece of mind will pay 10-fold.

Do you mean water cooled like the Cointerra units ?
156  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What shall we do in the Summer? on: February 19, 2014, 02:57:22 AM

Don't quite understand what 12000 BTU's is though... sounds impressive but is 1 btu like the heat a fly generates ?

I only know air con rated in KW's

LOL! That's funny as hell Smiley  I don't understand it either. But here's a link for conversions

http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/power/BTU_to_kW.htm

Ahhh makes sense thanks, 3.5 KW's for $500 is a great deal
157  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Silicon Computers Ltd .... SCAM!! AVOID on: February 19, 2014, 02:55:10 AM
If you bought off ebay it should be ok most card companies allow up to 180 days to do a charge back.

We got a few people scam us, had some people buy a contract get the mined Bitcoins then do a charge back, it's almost impossible to explain to the card company, If the scammers use it genuine people should also use it to get stolen money back if they paid by card.
