Just a heads up.
During the tournament, we collected over 1,100 BTC in TestNet coins.  We just donated these coins back to the TestNet faucets:
550 coins to TP's TestNet Faucet
550 coins to MojoCoin

Here are the transactions in case anyone cares  Smiley

I'm a little curious as to why my account that went 95-0 didn't win the best win:loss ratio leaderboard.  Seems like 100% should beat 99.68%.

Yep - totally fair question.  We use a weighting algorithm as described in the rules.   More specifically, we use the lower bound of the Wilson interval at a 95% confidence interval to calculate the rankings.  This makes it so that someone who wins 999/1000 games ranks higher than someone who won 1/1 games.  Clearly the guy who won 999/1000 is more likely to be the better player.

Thanks,
MooCoin

That makes sense.  I guess my only argument would be that the leader-board doesn't say "best player" it says "best win:loss ratio".  And a 1:0 ratio is better then a 999:1 ratio.  If you wanted to figure out the best player, it seems like it would be some sort of ELO rating system or something.  It's nitpicky on my end, sure, but the whole leaderboard bot stress test system seemed to be built around being nitpicky.

Nah - I don't think it's nitpicky.  The reality is that we were going to do a straight ratio, then decided to go ahead and do something better (Wilson interval), and neglected to go back and change the subtitle from "ratio" to "ranking".  We did clarify our calculation in the rules but you're right - we should have changed it from ratio.

For the day-to-day play, the leaderboards will be for fun.  Before we run our next tournament (on the MainNet!!!), we're going to implement ELO to take into account the relative strength of players.  This will become even more important as we create more and more skill-based games.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry if it wasn't clear how we were ranking players.
MooCoin

I understand.  Bummer I wasted my time on something that wasn't clear, but it was only a few hours and honestly I'll probably play on the site once it's up for real btc because the hi/low game is really fun and seems like something that has a skill element to it (and I used to love watching Card Sharks).

Thanks.  We look forward to having you join the live site.  We have even more games in store, as well.

113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Easiest way to accept BTC and test on: January 23, 2014, 11:34:35 PM
When you get a rush of users, then I assume that this becomes an issue only if they all want to withdraw bitcoins.  I assume that if your holding account runs out of bitcoins, then you can tell your users to wait as you manually move some bitcoins from your cold (which I assume is the same as offline) storage?

Exactly.  We'll only hold enough in the hot wallet to cover expected withdrawls.  If we get a rush of withdrawals, users will get an error, and we'll be notified.  It's not the best customer experience but it should rarely happen, and it's better than losing a hot wallet.

I don't know why he wrote the above.  I assume that you haven't had any problems with sendfrom.

We've tested millions of sendFrom transactions and no problems at all.  Our scaling plan includes not using it, though.  Instead, we'll maintain the local ledger.

I don't understand what you mean by:  "We don't do the sweep currently on the live site".  Can you explain or elaborate?

Eventually, we'll sweep funds from the account the user deposits to, directly to the holding account and maintain their balance in the database.  Right now, we don't sweep those funds into the holding account because we're using the built-in account system with no problems.  Thousands of accounts and tens of thousands of transactions between accounts with no perceptible lag in our profiler.
We've always planned to move away from the account system because we've heard it isn't scalable.  We have most of that code written and tested, but have yet to see any scalability problems that would cause us to move away from teh account system.

Let me reiterate what you wrote above to fully understand what you are doing.  You keep track of users (in your database) who have unconfirmed funds.  When a blocknotify comes in, you call getbalance for each and every one of your users who have unconfirmed funds, to find out if these users still have or no longer have unconfirmed funds.  For users who no longer have unconfirmed funds, you write into your application database to indicate this, so that your application can tell your user that he has more bitcoins to play with.  Do I have this right?

Don't the blocknotify come in quite often, especially if you have thousands of users?  I'm assuming that blocknotify will run every time there is a confirmation on each and every transaction for every one of your users.  There could eventually be thousands of confirmations on a transaction.  Here's a possible number of blocknotifies:
1,000 confirmations X 5 deposits X 1,000 users = 5,000,000 blocknotifies.  For each of these blocknotifies, you are checking all of your users with unconfirmed funds.  This means you can be running getbalance 2,500,000,000 times (5m X 500) if you have 500 users with unconfirmed funds.  This seems like a lot of processing.  Do I have this wrong?

blocknotify happens each time a block is found on the network.  That's the only time a confirmation changes on a deposit.  A confirmation is defined as a new block found that includes the transaction.  This happens on average every 10 minutes.  So your server gets a block notify every ten minutes, and checks only the accounts that have unconfirmed funds from a recent deposit.  Once a user's account has 100% of the balance confirmed by 4 transactions, we don't have to check them again on the next blocknotify.

When we launch, do we need to run SSL on mainNet (assuming mainNet refers to regular bitcoins)?  Why is SSL needed?  What data needs to be encrypted?

Yea - that's SSL between the rpc client and the bitcoind rpc server.  If it's on the same machine, you may be able to forego ssl.  We have it enabled.

114  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1.2 BTC Tournament | Play for free! | 6 Winners | MooCoin RC1 on: January 22, 2014, 07:12:30 PM
2 things you might want to think about adding is how much the current wager is for and if your opponent is a bot in the game. Seeing the outcome of the game for a few seconds would be nice before it flashes the congrats or sorry message as well.

Both really good suggestions.  Thanks!
115  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1.2 BTC Tournament | Play for free! | 6 Winners | MooCoin RC1 on: January 22, 2014, 07:09:36 PM
I'm not complaining but some people took this to a new level. I was pulling decent leads on everyone in 4 categories. Then you got the guy who apparently has a little to much free time doing 1300 BTC between 2 accounts. This just made it less fun as the 20 testnet coins I have been waiting to deposit for 3 days finally arrived. That pace isn't even worth catching up to, but challenge accepted as I'm not inclined to just let another win. If I come out of this with nothing I'm gunna freak a little.

On a side note we drained over 1000 coins in under a week and i'm pretty sure it's lagging like a bitch as some deposits are not even showing.

Deposits can take some time on TestNet.  The block mining is a little less stable and predictable compared to mainNet.
The people who are using huge amounts and huge numbers of games are really stress testing the system.  I know it's frustrating from a player point-of-view, but it's all in the name of making the site rock-solid for when we go live on MainNet

Thanks,
MooCoin
116  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1.2 BTC Tournament | Play for free! | 6 Winners | MooCoin RC1 on: January 18, 2014, 10:17:01 PM
then what steps should I do in order to make a withdrawal?

Thanks..

Just withdraw to a TestNet address.
As stated above, MooCoin is not running on the bitcoin network right now.  It's not using real bitcoins.  We're using the fake "TestNet" bitcoins in order to test the system before our launch.  You can't withdraw testNet bitcoins to a "real" bitcoin address.

Sorry for the confusion,
MooCoin

Hello Sir..
Why I can't withdrawal..

notice
"Sorry. You entered an invalid amount to withdraw."

Sorry - the problem is that this is the wrong error message.
You're trying to withdrawal the coins to a mainnet address, and MooCoin is currently running on TestNet.  If you use a TestNet address, the withdrawal will work.

Also, I'll go fix the error message.

Thanks!

The miners fee is .0001 btc, so your withdrawal is zero after the miners fee. We need a better message for the case where you're withdrawing exactly .0001. Can you try .00011 and see if that works?

the miners fee is .0001 btc.. i'm withdrawal .0010 btc.. but can't withdrawal sir..

Sorry. I missed the decimal place. Let me go take a look.

I am pretty sure all the cheating will only scare away potential users. Some tournament this is.....

We're allowing "cheating" right now during beta so we can measure it, and build models that will help us eliminate it when the site goes live.
Once we go live, well disallow cheating.

Thanks!
