421  Other / Off-topic / Want a one way trip to Mars in 2018? You can volunteer now. on: September 20, 2014, 04:05:32 AM
http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/10/tech/innovation/mars-one-plan/

A Dutch company is planning on sending 4 people permanently to Mars in 2018. They chose 4 people out of 200,000 applicants. Would you apply for this? Your name would go down in the history books.
422  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are your HOBBIES? on: September 19, 2014, 05:21:39 AM
I'm an avid bike rider. I'm in the road biking club at my university. I like to tinker around with bikes in general. Replacing parts, putting together a bike from different parts, etc. I just enjoy riding a bike. Bikes I have now are the Fuji Roubaix 3.0, Bianchi Giro and Windsor Clockwork.

The biscuits they serve at Red Lobster are pretty amazing. I always order seconds.

424  Other / Off-topic / Re: a life after death? on: September 18, 2014, 09:59:41 AM
If I don't exist anymore, then there will be no problem.

Problem will be I die and wake up in a worse reality

That's a great way to put it. A great quote I like to refer to when anyone brings up the inevitable is one by Mark Twain--"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it." When you die, you won't even know you are dead. My personal belief is that as an individual I am dead but as a human collective, I am alive. As long as there are humans on the planet, a part of my DNA will be around and that is enough to make me happy. Who knows what they will be able to do thousands, hundreds of thousands or even millions of years from now. Reactivate all of humanity's thought patterns in a hologram? Better hope you accomplish something great in the eyes of human scientists eons from now to deserve that kind of second coming though. Find the cure for cancer is where I'd start. They would want to re-animate you and ask you how you managed to do it with such primitive technology.

Great gesture indeed. Not to mention it will bring positive attention to our beloved cryptocurrency. I wonder how long it takes until other companies follow suit. Implementation is extremely slow considering all the progress btc has made with mainstream online retailers.
426  Other / Off-topic / Do you have intrusive thoughts? on: September 18, 2014, 08:46:01 AM
Intrusive thoughts as defined by Wikipedia are "unwelcome involuntary thoughts, images, or unpleasant ideas that may become obsessions, are upsetting or distressing, and can be difficult to manage or eliminate."

I regularly get intrusive thoughts. Sometimes I will be driving on the highway and my brain will tell me "I wonder what would happen if I jerked the steering wheel while going 75 mph (1.60 kph for the non-Americans). Or I will be cooking one day holding a sharp knife and all of a sudden my brain tells me "What would happen if I stabbed my leg? Would there be a lot of blood? Go on, do it."

No I am not a diagnosed schizophrenic. I'm told by my psych teachers that this is common and normal occurrence in people.
427  Other / Off-topic / Re: Having an "Auto pilot" car is becoming more and more possible on: September 17, 2014, 10:21:46 PM
Google autonomous cars have been in beta for nearly 5 years. They are currently in the process of working out the kinks, law-wise. No accidents reported so far from the project, except when a human was behind the wheel. I predict they will roll out to the public within 2 - 3 years.
428  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Co-Op games would you reccomend for me and my friend? on: September 17, 2014, 11:50:00 AM
I've always enjoyed coop on Halo 3. Played that a ton. You might like it too coming from L4D.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/16/craigslist-ps4-killing-daniel-zeitz_n_5829460.html?utm_hp_ref=crime

What kid of world are we living when this person valued a PS4 over another human being's life? I'm angrier at the parents who raised her. Morals, ethics, right and wrong? Did they fail to instill anything remotely upstanding into her? Such a sad world..
430  Other / Off-topic / What do you daydream about? on: September 15, 2014, 01:11:57 PM
I find myself constantly daydreaming during classes about traveling and backpacking. I dream about doing it through Asia particularly. Food is cheap, views are great at the right places and the people seem friendly for the most part. I'd like to stay at a couple of hostels and meet other international travelers, have some fun partying the night away over some cheap beer and just live for the moment. I've been following a lot of Asia travel vloggers and it's really making me excited to actually do this when the time comes.

What about you guys? What fills the void in your mind as you stutter along the daily monotony of work or school?

432  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you like kids? on: September 15, 2014, 01:16:29 AM
Kids kinda creep me out I don't know exactly why. With their big ole googly eyes and their broken and undeveloped logic. Maybe that's just me. I don't really want any kids. Babies however are cute.
433  Other / Off-topic / Police break down door without warning, cop gets shot. Man faces death penalty. on: September 14, 2014, 11:31:45 PM
http://www.kwtx.com/ourtown/home/headlines/Killeen--Prosecutor-Will-Seek-Death-Penalty-In-Police-Officers-Death-274000421.html

They never found drugs or anything incriminating at the man's house. This was a "no-knock" raid where police don't identify themselves or provide any warning that they are about to knock down your house with guns drawn and tear gas thrown. Hundreds of these are conducted yearly. Don't they figure by now that breaking down someone's door at 5 am in the morning without identifying yourself as POLICE is a bad idea? Now that someone got shot, the poor guy who was just trying to defend himself and his property will be facing the death penalty.

U.S.A, land of the "free".
434  Economy / Economics / Re: will America ever be free again? on: September 14, 2014, 01:24:31 PM
The passing of the Patriot Act in 2001 enabled the U.S. corporate entities to seize freedom from it's citizens. Police brutality has gone up two-folds since Americans no longer stand up for their rights and freedoms. Police routinely detain and arrest citizens on false pretenses. Woman arrested after a police cruiser ran a stop sign and ran into her vehicle breaking her neck. Since she was unresponsive after the accident, the police officers involved at the scene suggested they arrest her for being "under the influence". http://fox13now.com/2014/08/07/sober-driver-arrested-for-dui-when-deputy-blows-through-stop-sign-hits-her/

Things like this happen on a daily basis and nothing is done. All that happens is the police officers involved gets a slap on the wrist and a free 4 weeks PAID vacation. With things like this going on, America will never truly be free again.
435  Economy / Economics / Re: Why we give respect to Rich and no-respect to poor? on: September 14, 2014, 01:16:49 PM
Because it's human nature to respect success. Even animals display forms of appreciation for success. There is a type of crow where the female only goes to the male nest with the shiniest objects. Very primal if you ask me. There's not much to the explanation. Being rich is associated with success and successful people are respected in general.
436  Other / Off-topic / Would you live in a Tiny House? How about on a boat? on: September 14, 2014, 01:11:51 PM
I was inspired by looking through a couple of videos from youtube about living simply. In this economy it seems like the smart thing to do. Living on a boat seems extremely cool to me. Sailing from place to place. I'm seriously thinking about doing it after college. What do you guys think?

Yeah that's pretty impressive. I'm quite sure when I was 2 all I knew how to do was piss my pants and eat crayons.

Google Nexus 4, unlocked and currently with T-Mobile. Yes it's almost 2 years old but I love it.
439  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Best Rock Band Of All Time? on: September 14, 2014, 07:40:07 AM
I've always enjoyed anything from The Killers. Favorite song from them would be Sam's Town. The intro is great.

I also like Led Zeppelin. Favorite from them was How the West Was Won.

Tool is also a great band. I enjoyed Vicarious and listened to it a lot on repeat.
