When I switched to Xubuntu from Win8 the cards on each rig all started mining within ***.1 kh of each other.

the 1200w is what you want.  The guy running the 1000w psu is likely going over 100% load.

Thanks for the input Gazza! What model are your Sapphires? I ask because every model within the brand may be COMPLETELY different when it comes to mining. I have many models of Sapphire 7950s and they all hash different at the same settings.

I have the Dual-X versions of the 280x, 100363BF4L and also a few Toxic's.  And the Dual X versions of the 7970s.  Of the 3 groups they all hash pretty much the same to each other of their group.  What mobos are you running?  I use all MSI Z77 with Ivy Bridge G1610s, Corsair & Seasonic PSUs, and 1x powered risers on every card.
927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: $25,000 Best Gpu for the job? on: January 23, 2014, 01:53:46 AM
not necessarily.  five 270x should run on a 900w power supply with room to spare.  same 2200khash rate from three 280x you'd need to get a 1200w power supply, which is a premium priced item.

3 280x does not need 1200w.  3 per 850w tier1 gold psu (undervolted)

also try
1030,1032,1040,1050,1060,1070,1080,1090,1100

If it's one card you aren't going to get much more than 720ish tops, more cards are needed to get 730s-765s on all of them.

My sapphire 280x's respond best to 11200 and either 1050/1500 or 1080/1500  1080 puts them in the 765s while 1050 is 740s.  The difference is I can undervolt huge at 1050 so it's more of a sweetspot.

I use VBE7 to undervolt from 1175 to 1100 which shows up as 1.019-1.039 is GPUZ.  Huge power and heat savings

788MH is exceptionally good for a new coin.  Having so many dedicated miners for a coin that isn't even on a large exchange speaks volumes.

The number of developers involved and everything they are doing for the coin put's it far above the rest

153 pages with 52,000+ views in 12 days shows it's popularity

This coin is going to be huge

934  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Fried a generic 850w PSU with 2 R9 280Xs on: January 22, 2014, 04:08:32 PM
All my rigs use two Corsair HX850 power supplies (total of 1700W). I've got rigs running six 7950s using two HX850s and rigs running five 280x's using two HX850s.

I honestly think that getting a fantastic power supply like the Corsair will mean a world of a difference in any rig!

Absolutely.  Corsair, Seasonic, or Antec HCP/Signature.  Silverstone is great too but their warranty is only 3 years vs the others.  XFX is also great since most of them are made by Seasonic, but I hear their customer service department isn't the best these days.

Seasonic Makes a lot of the good ones that are rebranded.

They are enermax 1000W gold revolution 87+

they fucking suck!

I am surprised, enermax was good back in the day

The Corsair 750w will power the system just fine.  But I would get an 850w for headroom.

All my Corsair 850w power 3 280x without a hitch.

I got 3 280x's and I had a 1000W psu and it still was not enough.. I had to buy an other 450w to power the third card.

I noticed the brand new cards draws more power then an older card (6+months old)

all my rigs are now powered off 2 psu's and since then have been running very smooth.

What PSU were you running, what brand

I have a system in the living room even powering 3 280x Toxic and a mobo/cpu and the psu isn't even putting out hot air.  Corsair HX850.

Many of the PSUs people are lead to believe are good brands, really aren't that great.

the difference between a good brand psu and any generic one is the same as comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo.

You should put generic psu in the title.  Everyone knows generic psu's suck and overrate their stats

you also should undervolt your cards with VBE7. 280x's undervolt very very well.

To add to that tip, get one with a backlight. The non backlight ones are a pain in the ass if you can't get a direct view.
