wow! people still mining this coin

Ofcourse they are! This coin is amazing.

Yeep....0.35 GH/s net hashrate is really convincing.

You can effectively double that really compared to scrypt as the hash rates are at only 40%

remember this coin is not some shitcoin scrypt

Love the idea of this coin. But what i'm wondering is how is the store going to keep up with demand for these cards when GPU manufacturers can barely do it themselves?

The only stores that have any in stock are the ones that bought tons of them last month from the latest shipment from China. I've been in contact with some of the GPU manufacturers like GIGABYTE, and they have been waiting for a shipment from china for the last few weeks.

Seems as fast as China can make them, they are being sold. So if you are not buying shit loads of them, like for example Newegg, you will be constantly stuck in the "waiting for shipment from China loop", which takes weeks, or sometimes more than a month from what i see.

Yes, i know what you mean, i don't think they will.. Unless they have their own company building them.. lol .We will see. this might be their Achilles heel.

Have you noticed that a lot of businesses that evolve around bitcoin are so shady. I want transparency. So if and when i decide to start a business, it will be kept all legal and above board. i am sick and tired of people ripping people off..

Why cant people just be honest.

Sorry got a little carried away then, its just that people have such bad customer care and support its beyond unbelievable.
286  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: people buying used miners on: March 18, 2014, 08:21:14 PM
I don't get it.
Perfect example is the 336 mhs usb one.  It is not worth more than $2 under the most ideal circumstance (free power.)
Yet they sell for anywhere from 5-15 and actually move.
Wtf  Huh
Are the parts valuable or something?
At the rate these used mienrs move, they are going to rip more people off than mt gox  Shocked (ok exaggeration.)

You're right, but keep in mind that there are a lot of people who only want to "dip their toes" in Bitcoin at first. So, buying a $15 BE off ebay is actually a sane way to do that.

Now, continuing to do that once they're ready to swim out in the deep end is wasteful.

If you want to dip your toes in, you might as well buy BTC for $15 rather than a BE. A BE will mine a couple mBTC at best.

That said, I can imagine the price for BEs to be relatively high because of the gadget factor. Many people buy one or two just for fun, realizing that they will never get anything close to their moneys worth of coins out of it.

You forget that there are other coins that they can dip their toes into other than bitcoins. So maybe people want to try this..
287  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Nearly burned down my home due to mining equipment failure :( on: March 18, 2014, 08:17:32 PM
How did you put it out? Water?
The fire was in a state which would have caused your house to burn down if you weren't there to intervene, did I get that right? Really sorry to hear that, that's something I'm afraid of all the time. And one of the reasons I won't go big with mining..

Yeah thats right!! I was so happy that i had put up smoke detectors in that room!! or i wouldn't have noticed. used powder fire extinguisher  to get it out!!

i was mining ltc on 2 7950s and 2 7970s and one night i charged my phone in the plug next to my bed instead of the pc and it was very warm..... went out the the rig and it was on the same circuit and that plug was very warm as well. sold 2 of the cards so far.... not worth it and i do not know much about the wiring other than it prolly hasnt been updated in a long long time. i watch over the little gear i have like a new born baby because i cant afford new anything if my place went up in smoke and jusrt for piece of mind.

another time something didnt seem right on that set up and it seemed i was maxing out the psu because the cards werent acting right... 5 min later i had a faint electrical smell, not burning just the real hot smell. ran out to the living room and touched the psus and one was soooo damn hot if i didnt check it it prolly would have started a fire that night.

For the PSU thing you might have had a cheap one or it was overloaded!! have never heard before that the plugs in the wall get hot :/ that must be dangerous !!!

Dont buy cheap china crap!!! That's my rule of thumb..

P.S. I've been asked to take care of passing out winnings for the rig contest and the posting giveaway at the main http://gpucoinforum.com/ site. So, please post your wallet addy in the thread I've started there to receive your winnings ASAP. Remember, no wallet addys on this thread please, it's against this forum's rules.

I hope someone with deep pockets can pump up the price just before the store opens so that the store is not pricing on the 20 sats this coins is selling for now.

If that happens there will be no incentive for the price to raise because it will not be a discount to be had.

  Thoughts?

Easy solution to this, the CEO should do another offer what ever the price is x 2 coins

Having that all automated for you is a breeze. i'll be heading back to wemineall either around the time halving starts or i'm really starting to hurt for coins.
also right now i'm playing the exchange game. started with $100 and i'm up to $160.44 now. you dont need to buy and sell on every dip, just set a low buy order then set a 20 - 40% higher sales rate.
with btc i try to buy in at 580 and sell at 640 - 650, depending on the market. these are relatively normal figures when the markets swinging around.

So what timescale did you make that money in.

294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | Rig Contest @ gpucoinforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2736 on: March 17, 2014, 09:04:26 PM
people talking about the dumping of coins must not exchange much.
when GPUC goes to dump their coins, they can just do what the whales on any large exchange do. create a huge up swing in value, lock the price with huge buy/sell walls, pretty much control the market value with all his coins spread over the different exchanges it is on.

many of you are forgetting that all of that IPO is free money for him to buy graphics cards with, then gets free coins given to him to send those cards out. he has a huge stash of coins + getting more from us. you really think shipment 2 would be any smaller? he isn't selling these cards at his cost, so on top of this all he is still making a massive profit.

calm your tits people, i'm sure its crossed his mind how to work the system in his favor.

Yeah we know that fella, But the only problem that exists is that he will need plenty of liquidity for the next round. And if everyone just dumps coins on the exchange to sell out, which is what will happen once the store front opens for business.

I know i am, i am looking to cash in and buy from the UK As i would have thought its going to be cheaper to buy from here at the present time.. So i will wait and see what develops from gpucoin.. Its certainly going to be interesting.

What price are the gpu in the USA?

he could be mining something else on his own generating more profit, he also has a day job. i don't forsee too much hitting the market driving that much cost down. most IPO holders will either continue to hold "like myself" or buy gpus with it if they feel its worth spending right now.
personally i'm waiting till gpuc is more known and the buzz has been curculated before i really start planning what to do with my coins.
max roi is my main goal, not quickly turning a profit.

I am with you on the ROI. But we have seen in the past that the price of coins can just nose dive and rarely recover. Some have, but after a month or so. There seems to always be a patern with the coins. GPU coin might be different. Hopefully giving everyone a chance to make a few quid.

i am relatively new to mining, i have 5 gpus in total from my first second hand 5930, then onto xfx7970 and shortly after with 3 more r9 290's But i haven't managed to pay for the them back at let along buy more with them, so for me i might just cash in..

like i said i will wait and see what happens.

I believe that IPO investors could still sell at 20 satoshi and be even getting out of their investment if they so choose.  But this coin has potential to go much higher.  And Thank G*D the devs went with scrypt-n instead of scrypt, because all of the 300 scrypt coin crap clones are dying and going to zero. And it will only get worse with asics.  At least this coin has a chance being asic resistant and with a real value of the store.

asics mean bitcoin resistant. is that correct? what is asics mean?

asic miners are devices with a single purpose, to mine.
they use almost no power, smaller, generate less heat.. all around a miners wet dream for return on investment.
Personally i think its not the miners that are the problem. its the amount of coins in circulation, spreading thin the investors cash.. Once the coins become less and less and people think about creating a coin that is worth something instead of a pointless coin, then we will see the prices start to rise again.

Anyone can create a shitcoin, it takes a genius to make a coin that works.

Like someone said before, the only ones who are winning here are the energy suppliers. So invest there.. Fortunately, i have invested large into a company who is about to launch green tech into the power plants to remove all CO2 instantly. And work with the top energy suppliers in the USA. So i am in a win win situation.

Has there been any discussion on block halving or increasing block time? I think we have a little problem in that at this rate we are mining approximately 864 million coins per month. Add to that issue there has been very little PR, dumping has caused mining to become unprofitable for most so we have very few miners with big capacity mining nearly all of it.

The way I see it right now, not many coins are moving. By the time this first batch comes out little miners aren't going to stand a chance vs extremely large bagholders compounded with those who mine and dump holding the price down low.

I'm not holding a large bag just earning whatever my 5770 can pull and thinking about buying in, I just feel like if the devs shift over to PR phase and this coin gets added to bigger exchanges, we are going to watch a behemoth dump festival pushing the price even lower unless demand picks up to the point where people are willing to spend big dollars on nearly half a billion coins that could be dumped hard. We all know how hard it is to get out of the pits once a coin gets buried to 1 satoshi.

The way I see it at this point, it's either going to to be 5-10 high capacity miners buying up everything from the store, or exchange dumping to whoever will buy spreading the coin thin to the point where very few people actually have the coin required to make a purchase. I.E. at current rate it will take approximately 4 million GPU coin to afford a 290X, if we end up in the 1 satoshi graveyard, forget it. Even if those big players decide to buy the first shipment, the devs will need to dump the coins back in the market to raise funds for the next batch. Once again if there is not demand for the tens-hundreds of millions of coins being recirculated, prices will crash.

What I'm trying to say is we're going to need serious demand to hold this coin up if we put out a billion a month and ultimately the goal for both holders and the devs is for the price to go up. Higher market cap = larger shipments for the devs.. No demand for billions of coins, selling will drop the price, and things cascade. I think we can alleviate some of this stress by reducing the amount of coin entering the market on a daily basis (at least until demand rises up to meet it)

Just wondering what thoughts are on the matter

PR will come, you can not promote a half finished project. wait for the store front then the PR work can begin. Also lets just see what the GPU team have for us. I have a great idea but sitting on it for the time being and looking at creating my own coin that will do away with this problem. What i am amazed about is that i have tried to contact the gpu owner. but he has not replied to one of my emails. So either he is ignorant, which i can not see this being the case Or he is extremely busy or lost interest..

I dont want to poach people from here, thats just not me.. but watching closely on how this coin progresses.

I'm a big fan of FATEcoin, a coin that can not be mined well with any ASIC currently and requires a hands on approach by the miner. I like the idea that this is a coin that needs hands on. A coin that requires you to have user interface with it to keep gaining. Implementing a hands on approach with a coin is a great idea. How to implement it is the question....

Interesting, like to hear more about what these other coins are capable of.
