I was studying the UNO volume and it appears that 85% of it is created by a bot on C-CEX. This means that organic volume is probably closer to $100/daily.

Someone controlling 10% of the supply (or $40,000 worth) could, for all intents and purposes, irreparably harm the currency. This means that the Cryptsy coins would have to fall into benevolent hands to ensure the avoidance of a market catastrophe.

Does this seem like a plausible statement, or am I being overly dramatic?

~~
Yeah, I'd say overly dramatic. First of all your scenario isn't exclusive to UNO, it could be applied to pretty much every altcoin. I don't understand what you expect to hear. UNO is quite cheap right now, I guess it would be "affordable" for a malicious party to aquire enough coins to do harm, but you could just as well just burn the money. Hmmm, now that I think about it that sounds just like what has happened this spring, lol. Somebody market-bought UNO up to almost 10x current price, just to dump the coins down to 1/10th current price not long ago. Didn't "irreperably" harm the market, price is just where it was 6 months ago almost like nothing happened.

Look, I've been trading Unobtanium for close to 2.5 years now, I've been through pretty much all the pumps, dumps, hacks, theft, chaos, FUD, greed, but also fun, joy and excitement. UNO has a loyal core group of hodlers and traders, attracted to the coin due to its fundamentals. The pumpers come and go, we stay. Many of us really like to hold and accumulate the coin whenever it is considered cheap (historically that would be whenever it is below .005). Some of us sell when the price goes up and rebuy when it comes back down, others just hold. This tendency to accumulate and hold has repeatedly resulted in periods of low volume. UNO is not a market to quickly flip a few BTC worth of coin for profit.

Don't mistake that as a lack of interest though. There's plenty of people watching the markets that would be more than happy to put more BTC on the buy side of the orderbook, should further dumps occur. UNO traders prefer waiting for weak hands to bleed out, rather than buying from the offers side on the exchanges. We're a patient bunch of motherf***ers. Wink

Shapeshift hacked too, nasty week so far. Sad to see coinwallet close, they seemed like a great service. Their Twitter tipbot was also a cool sideproject. Sad

damn it!

Polo/ETH profit pumps

EXE, PIG, QORA, sys, i/o others

makes me wonder where UN could be  Embarrassed Roll Eyes Huh Undecided Angry Sad
Polo is kind of a casino right now: check for low volume shitcoins; accumulate a little; place sell orders at 2x, 4x, 8x; leave alone for a few days; return 2 profit... That being said, many of the big pumps on Polo this year have been leginimate crypto projects that are getting some long deserved attention now, which I think is pretty cool.

Polo or no Polo, I feel good about where UNO currently is. The upwards trend that started in February is nice and steady, if you look at it on a 3D chart its basically a narrow ascending channel with a single wick breakout and volume rise. Beautifull chart IMO.

'unknown' is all independent pools or solominers

-------
https://github.com/OSXBasedAnon/unobtanium.io

is that the website? (seems to be some forks)
The original repo is https://github.com/icanprogram/unobtanium.io
That is the previous site though, from the team that took over the project from Blazr in early 2014 and left after Wolong was done.

it was a real kick quick 1 - 2 punch (hitting an all time high)
Actually the UNO all time high is still the Wolong pump, hitting > .04 before slowly fading out...

I've added C-CEX to out volume/price ticker.

I've had to disable the multiprice widget from cryptonator temporarily, as it was causing some errors and page slowdown. Will look into the problem (looks to be on their end but I want to make sure) and try to bring it back up. Thanks for your patience and have a nice day.

Look at that volume. And its certainly not only someone buying up their own sell walls to fake it, a lot of coins that were bought belonged to long term community members.

Still not sure what to make of this. Somebody just grabbed the UNO market by its balls. Please be nice new mr./mrs. market maker. We kinda love this coin. Thanks.

first UNO pizza then we circle back to the UNO beers.

Unobtanium Ale even features a logo similar to Cryptapus'.

Awesome looking ale. Has anyone tried it?

Cool stuff happening lately in UNO land, fun to watch!

I just noticed, UNO is sitting right at the price where it was when I first discovered it over two years ago! I traded my first few kg of UNO on Coinex, had a lot of fun playing the .0045 to .005 spread then, made a nice 10% return (on a few bucks) a few times a day. Then you know who appeared and took us for a ride.

Historically the upside from here has been +400% to +800% from here, the downside -40% to -66%. So still a great zone to go long on UNO me thinks. Cheesy

@FallingKnife is this the guide you refer to? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=527500.msg11749610#msg11749610
Worked for me.

I agree. I can see some of the points against MM I guess, but I don't think that UNO would be better off without it. Even as it is UNO is still way more secure now than it would be if it wasn't merge mined.

In both cases it is theoretically vulnerable to attack by a large BTC mining operator, but the required hashrate for such an attack is still considerably higher with MM than without it, which leaves a lot fewer candidates. If there is something we can do to make UNO's MM code more robust that would rock, but to do that we'd need to get to the source of the problem first. Meanwhile the market is working on making itself more attractive again, maybe we can revisit that f2pool connection in a few weeks/months time? Wink

Welcome to Page 600 of the UNO discussion!

No PM's yet claiming the Cryptsy wallet, except Learminer but I happen to know he has too much common sense to get caught out there.

Does anyone have the ability to go back and pull a Cryptsy volume report?  It would be interesting to know how much uno was ever traded at Cryptsy and do the math vs .01%. That would give us an idea of Uno collected by trade fees.

If it belongs to BigVern, why wasn't he selling it off like a SOB in the final months?  Too much on his mind? I would think he would at least want to sell it off at market value, or even slightly below market value as a honeypot.  But as it was there was not enough Uno on Cryptsy.

Very hard to get accurate numbers, expecially since there's no way to discern which fees were collected in BTC, which in UNO, and wether a market maker like Wolong might have enjoyed no-free trading privileges.

Rough volume was around 700 tons total since late 2013, at 0.2% fees that'd mean ~1.4 tons of UNO as commission max. Like I said, rough estimate, but a far cry from 15 tons.

my make ... it all belongs to Cryptsy (Paul “Big Vern” Vernon)
so far none have spoken up, even none English speakers would find their way here to at least ask about Cryptsy

the UNO community was one of the most heads up about the Cryptsy situation as it developed ... and towards the end it was clear to all that Cry was screaming GOX!  (in all languages)

another dynamic is if it belongs to Vern, it is likely on lock down by Order of a Judge until a combo divorce and bankruptcy case clears it for auction
Nah those are my coins. Wink

j/k but lets be honest, nobody has a clue who those coins belong to. So many alts trapped there and I don't believe for a second everybody except Vern managed to get their coins out. For all we know they could still belong to Wolong, who just didn't bother to clean out his account(s) after he went into hiding.

Either way, as you said that wallet is likely going to remain locked down for at least the duration of the legal actions that are now ongoing. Could be a year or two before those coins return to their rightfull owners or to the open market through an auction...

Lol, Bitcoin pumps and altcoins dump. Pretty much the entire roster of coins on Poloniex is red for today.

Uno be like "meh, not impressed" and does its own thing...  Kiss

Damn you weren't kidding! Here's the top 20

BTW look at the only winner, I knew Bryce was on to something with his joke  Cheesy
BitcoinPlus, lol. I faintly remember that name, had some werid presale shenanigans on Polo back a year or two ago IIRC.

What that image shows IMO is that most UNO owners are long term hodlers and don't really care if Bitcoin makes a move or not. That's a good and a bad thing.

Ok, based on the discussion, I will withdraw my public support for the project.
Why, because two guys said they don't like the idea? One of which is me - and you should know by now that whenever it comes to trading you shouldn't listen to me Wink - and the other has a history of ranting about "manipulation" and "insider trading" whenever the community gets together and organizes anything he doesn't control himself. Almost everyone else, universally people I've grown to respect, seem to be on board. So by all means continue and don't make me feel like a party pooper. Tongue
Disclaimer: I will purchase some UNO too very soon, just my guts telling me I shouldn't pre-announce time and date here, that's all.

@BotcoinFX Awesome, thanks for hosting those nodes!
Edit: Tip sent.

Not a big fan of the idea of "overt community based price management" to be honest. If this is a one time event you feel you have to do then go and vent some steam, have fun. I'm staying out and please lets not make this a regular thing ok?  Undecided
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Got Nuffin' on: February 15, 2016, 10:04:57 AM
How about Etherium?  Is the dumb money going into there at this point, or what?  Was talking to "Madbitcoins" (https://www.youtube.com/user/madbitcoins) aka Thom, briefly the other evening via FB IM ... he brought up Eth... asked me if I had dumped any money into that? ... he was LOL-ing about it - the likelihood of it crashing soontime.*
I think any asset that has gone up 800%+ over a few weeks is a high risk investment obviously. That's hardly something a Bitcoiner can mock though, as BTC has done that many times over now.

Personally I am interested in and have held and traded ETH because I see potential there. I currently hold no position because I expect a little more pullback and consolidation, but I wouldn't even be surprised if it first goes up again before that happens. It really is one of the few contenders that might have a legitimate shot at growing to Bitcoin levels of popularity over time, mostly due to its technology but also due to its popularity (one of the few "altcoin projects" discussed in mainstream media). So while its current price surge might just be a huge pump and dump, it is in many ways deserving of its current #2 position in marketcap IMO.

Back on topic: Good to see some price action and volume in UNO. First time lately that an upwards action in price has stuck and not immediatly been dumped back down. Several long term indicators have started pointing back up again for the first time in over a year now, maybe all the weak hands have finally been bored out of their minds waiting for the UNO reversal and shaken out. Wink
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update to 0.10 Wallet - Merge Mine w/BTC! on: February 14, 2016, 12:32:46 AM
I guess a good step 1 would be a tool that gives you an easy way to visualice what the current "fair" price for sell and buy orders would be. Make that easier and a human being could start trading those markets without getting their brain all wrecked.

Do you have a program in mind? That would be awesome, a simple website or personal tool that uses API data to convert BTC BID & ASK prices of Cryptopia-traded altcoins to a price in UNO. One input field would be size of order in the ALT (for asks) or UNO (for bids), then it would use a depth calculator similar to what shapeshift does to obtain fair (but profitable) pricing. Another input field could be markup (%profit)

UNOmarketcalculator.uno

Market: FTC (Feathercoin

Order type: Buy [FTC]

Order size: 20 UNO

Markup: 5%

Set a bid price of: 0.00305891

Obviously it would be far inferior to a bot since by the time a human saw that their order was filled the market may have shifted and their arbitrage opportunity may no longer exist. Also, it only takes a few clicks and the windows calculator app to get the fair price, but the included depth calculator would be where major time is saved, and many people wouldn't even want to do the simple 1st step calculations on their own anyway. You're right that it would be a great first step.

That actually sounds like something that Cryptopia themselves should/would implement. They like to add unique peripheral features to their service and this function would help to stimulate activity on their altcoin base markets.

Creating a price calculator is something that needs to be done anyway. If you want to create a bot that places automatic orders in UNO/XYZ markets, it needs the understand the value of these two currencies in relation to each other, no different than a human does really. The way to get this understanding is comparing their BTC value. So lets break down the challenges into seperate steps:

1: create module that calculates the current UNO/XYZ baseprice (based on current BTC market rates)
2: create module that checks UNO/XYZ cryptopia markets and alerts user (could also be a bot) to markets that are offering "good deals" (either extremely cheap XYZ or UNO)
3: add filters that limit it to specific markets, not all of these are "worth trading"
4: create a UI for this to make it usable by humans (I guess this part is optional really)
5: create module that also takes market depth into consideration and thus gives more precise information
6: create a module that can use the private Cryptopia API to perform actual trades
7: create an API for this, so a bot can plug in and use it
8: create the bot (or rather adapt an existing bot)

Just a rough breakdown really, feel free to disagree/ignore. The first few steps should be fairly easy and produce something usefull fairly quickly. That's why I broke it down this way. The last few steps will be way harder. Wink
