361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update Now to 0.9.5 wallet on: June 24, 2014, 08:33:08 PM
Great that you got your coins from CoinNext Benefactor and FallingKnife! Glad I was wrong and they apparently acted super fast after you posted here. Shame they won't add Unobtanium, but on the other hand we're already on most top exchanges, plus several up and coming smaller ones. Lack of exchanges is certainly not one of our problems.
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update Now to 0.9.5 wallet on: June 24, 2014, 01:36:30 PM
Uh, that doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the exchange. Unresponsive support is causing my alarm bells to ring (CoinEx, Cryptorush).
363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update Now to 0.9.5 wallet on: June 24, 2014, 10:43:11 AM
Another small update to the website is live. This one is for the traders among you.

You could already easily check price of UNO in BTC across multiple exchanges, but now:
* you can also see realtime prices for UNO in Dollar, NAUT and LTC! (powered by Cryptonator)
* This should make it easier for everybody who might want to aquire some nice deals on UNO in some of the more excotic trading pairs that are available.

If there are any additional currencies you'd like to see just let me know.

Enjoy!

364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: June 24, 2014, 09:54:41 AM
Beware: we have tens of votes on the polls, but how many people are helding EMC2 actually? The majority of EMC2 holders may be unaware of our discussions here, not everybody spends their time on forums. To change the fundamentals of a coin is something to do with enormous care - it's a violation of the whole concept behind a cryptocurrency: no serious investor would easily put money in a coin which menaces to change it's way to be generated every time that it's value does not rise.
This being said, if the community nevertheless decides for a change, a mixed PoW/PoW would probably be the best way to go, because it would strenghten the network against possible attacks and in my view our community is still far too little for a successful PoS coin. I'm repeating my question: once we are pure PoS why would someone OUTSIDE our community sudenly wish to buy our coins? If you can explain it to yourself please explain it also to me, I still don't get it. But beware that if your argument then doesn't work that's the case of the value of the coin finally dropping to zero. I understand that the few tens of people who have voted the poll own all together most of the coins in circulation and they dream of becoming rich very fast - I share your same dream, but I am also a realist. Who would buy our coins once we are the only ones to produce them by the way of PoS? Come on, this is a quite childish expectation.

I'm repeating it once again: we are here to give life to a coin which has the embedded property of funding science, no matter which its market price is. If we will be able to achieve that, we will also end up being happy with the coins price. There are no other ways. To this regard, I must say I am not happy with the funding of science having been halted for a few epochs because the price is low, as well as I am not happy with the payments to the awarded scientific projects being delivered in dollars, as it happened in the past. We should ALWAYS send the EMC2 coins to the winners, no matter which their value is. We can explain to the winners how to transform their coins in dollars, if that is what they prefer, but we should exclusively deliver EMC2s. The coins are worth little? Then winners are unlucky, we'll suggest them to keep the coins until they will be worth more. If we deliver dollars instead of EMC2 we betray our own coin, we send out a strong message that EMC2's value is only in terms of dollars, it looks like we don't believe in our own coin, we show that we didn't really get the new paradigm behind cryptocurrencies, we basically just do it wrong. The proof of the validity of I say? If you think in terms of dollars, when the market price drops you'll end up stopping with the process of awarding coins to science, thus destroying the credibility of the whole project. The coin is less than 4 months old, so these mistakes can be still recovered, but if the community does not understand these basic things we'll more likely to go down, rather than up again.

Regarding the change, perhaps we could think at something which has not been done yet (as far as I know, but of course I may be wrong, there are so many coins out there), a mixed PoW/PoS system with the embedded feature of a slow transition to PoS, perhaps over a couple of years.
I agree that IN THE END PoS sounds a way to go for cryptocurrencies in general, because it's echological, doesn't feed an unsustainable "arm race" of ASICS, etc, but you really have to have a big and strong community to be successful in that. Mintcoin had a community much bigger than ours, was quite well branded, but nevertheless since it's PoS the coin's price is slowly fading away.
A mixed PoW/PoS system which slowly goes in the direction of PoS could be an interesting solution. At the beginning it would be mainly PoW, like now, with just a minimal component of PoS. The ratio between PoW and PoS could change with every Epoch. A bit of PoW could be kept even for a some decades, this way there would always be the possibility for mining entusiasts to get some coins this way. Perhaps someone could start doing a bit of math on this.

Very good arguments. +1

so, the blockreward did Not reduced by 75% ?
 Angry
as a non miner i dont Like that
some people just bought on that News ...
 Angry
Sure it is reduced, just check the block explorer => 35,000 Karma reward.

It's just that while rewards dropped ~75%, the nethash also dropped ~75% (from 3GH/s to below 1GH/s), so profitability for the remaining miners is actually similar to before. There's still 75% less coins overall though.
366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][ ₭ARM] Karma & Karmashares // Launched search engine @lill.com on: June 24, 2014, 08:34:41 AM
and hashrate still at 3.5 gh/s!!!  that is very Karma-like.  KarmaHash good.

People can now mine Karma again relatively cheaply, the hash rate has adjusted to the new rewards.

Chargin.
Not the news I hoped for but it had to be expected. Would have been better if the hashrate had stayed high, that would at least have indicated trust by miners that Karma will be worth mining despire lower rewards. Now price will have to catch up to regain that lost hashrate.

Well you're touching upon a not exactly bright chapter in UNO's history. The previous dev team - which turned out to be more or less Wolong's crew - made some modifications to UNO, those resulted in faster block times.

What update was that, I don't remember a fork.  It's ok to say kgw added 'just because'.  This update erases a huge part of un's personality to me.
You'd have to ask one of the devs for details. I'm basically just adding up clues here. Maybe I should have made that clear.

Fact is UNO blocks have been running at faster than 3 minutes for quite a while now. Just looking at a block explorer will show that. Whenever I checked I was getting an average between 1-2 minutes, sometimes faster. That means UNO was actually mined and distributed much faster than originally intended. But that cannot be changed now. As for the blame. Bryce and Blazr2 said they'd "restore" the previous 3 minute block time. So I just came to the conclusion the developers that had control of the coin after Blazr2 handed it over and before he returned would be responsible for that.

As for KGW - I have no real opinion on that. Was it needed? Bryce and Blazr2 seem to think so. Why? You'll have to ask them. Smiley

That's exactly the situation I did point out before: if you weigh all PoW algos combined they're ahead of PoS. I guess doing a "PoW vs. PoS vs. PoW/PoS combined" poll would make sense. If PoW still comes out ahead just make a seperate poll for algos.

Would be kinda awesome if the result of those two polls would lead to 1. stay with PoW and 2. stay with Scrypt - eh? No hard fork required! Wink

I want to do what's best for the community and what our supporters, investors, and miners generally agree upon. For that reason, there will be another poll to solidify the change (or lack thereof).
You sir seem to be a fine dev. Makes me confident about my decision to become a holder of this coin again.
369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMO] EmotiCoin on: June 23, 2014, 08:38:24 PM
LOL, isn't this kind of símilar to the situation that happened right before the astronomical MOON pump in january? They also had miners abandoning the network due to high difficulty, the network slowed to a crawl and then - BOOM. So any whales watching this space - here is your chance to make crypto hiostory. Wink

And what does it mean returning to 3 minute blocks, i thought now it is 3 minutes blocks, isn't it?
Well you're touching upon a not exactly bright chapter in UNO's history. The previous dev team - which turned out to be more or less Wolong's crew - made some modifications to UNO, those resulted in faster block times. Bryce and Blazr are now restoring UNO to the way it was originally created and meant to be.

I will leave the specifics of your other network related questions to people that actually know that stuff.

Right now the price is kind of the best part of the coin. The devteam are well respected and know their stuff. The coin is fairly rare and some nice features cooking. I'm adding some to my collection, 1.5k sat is a steal.
372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ๑۩۞[ANN][ ₭ARM] Karma & Karmashares // Launched search engine @lill.com on: June 23, 2014, 01:24:52 PM
Please explain what is expected to happen when I reach 200k block? What I realized is that the prize will drop 3 times! Does this mean that the price will move up or ....
What will happen?
The block reward for miners will drop by roughly 75%. It won't be a "rare coin", but mining millions of Karma a day will be a thing of the past. The remaining 1/3rd of total Karma will be distributed over a much longer period of time.

Will price go up?
Not neccessarily. Lower rewards do reduce the risk of dumping by miners and it is easier to maintain the current price. Several big pumps of the past have been timed to happen at block halvings, exactly for the reduced risk of dumping. But that is the exception to the rule, not the other way around.

Funny, promoting mining on a coin that is supposed to be done mining, this is NOT what should be done. grats for kicking all ppl that holds this coin in the balls.  Cool

Opinions are mixed, the network was having difficulty staying alive as it was...  1 coin block rewards just didn't cut it.  The amount of coins in the wild was too high for this to work right.  We acknowledged this in our discussions, and decided than rather put the users and exchanges through some tedious and wasteful efforts, we would instead take damage on increasing the coin cap.

The issue has provided a breath of fresh air for the network and exposure of the coin.  Mining is putting TOP into the hands of new, fresh blood and so is buying at ultra low prices.  We have plans to change the structure of the coin when this second phase ends, and will be putting it to a vote to the community to help decide what direction we go - what algo, minimize coin cap, etc.  Existing coins, including the new ones, will be valid and exchanged appropriately.
Opinions are mixed, no kidding. I'd like to know some details. You're already calling it a "second phase" now, almost as if it was intentional? You need to be more transparent here or this could kill the coin! How did it happen, when will it end and what is the new cap?

Why should anybody trust you right now? Do you think bitcoin owners - if they learned due to a bug there will suddenly be 34 million coins instead of 21 - would just say "Oppsie, no biggie" and move on? The whole affair smells fishy and the longer you take to solve this, the more inflated TOP becomes. Would not be surprised to see this trading at 1 litoshi once transfers are re-opened on Mintpal.

You have no idea how stupid I feel now. I had just re-bought some TOP for the first time since it moved to the LTC markets. I was looking forward to the learning center and felt that with a limit of ~11 billion coins TOP could easily trade back at 20+ litoshi levels soon. Then I got curious how the network was holding up, because the low rewards would have certainly caused most miners to quit. I couldn't believe what I found and posted here instantly. Now I'm 50% down on my investment (not blaming you for that, my trades are my own responsibility) and being kept in the dark. Way to inspire faith in your coin guys.

FK - rich list?   Huh

I am working on a custom made block explorer that will include a real time rich list - but it is probably still at least 4 weeks away.  Smiley
Sound interesting, good luck on that!

Be sure to inform me once its ready, I'd like to link to it from the Unobtanium website.
376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMO] EmotiCoin on: June 23, 2014, 11:43:26 AM
That was a problem with basically every Litecoin clone. Initial difficulty way too low. Even Litecoin itself was instamined in parts due to this. That alone does not make a bad coin.

But the way the current situation is being handled is not very encuraging. If there is no news within a day or two I think it is safe to say the devs have abandoned this coin, or simply do not know how to fix the situation. Does anybody here have the programming knowledge, or knows a developer that could help resolve this?

EMO will never be a Dogecoin rival, but it with so many new coins being Blackcoin/PoS clones it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a few small but healthy Scrypt/PoW coins left to mine. Someone has got to feed those multipools, right? Wink

LOL, I'm the one that discovered this - or at least the first to report it - yet probably the only one not mining. Have fun everyone!

Just be wary trading, there's a few billion TOP more out there now nobody really expected. Could get cloudy and dumpy before the sun breaks through...

Keep it raining, big guys...  I'll buy everything you have Grin
Uhm, are you aware that TOP is actually generating 1 million coins per block again? It is already WAY past the ~12 billion coin limit stated in the OP.

I agree with Alphi, often a buywall like that is a sign of an incoming whale exit. Trying to push up price before the dump. In this case it might also be someone trying to hold price up to get that BTC market though.

Try selling some tens of millions into that wall, see if it budges. Then we will know. Smiley
