My #WhatWasYourFirstUNOPost according to my post history:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=527500.msg6231963#msg6231963

Was asking for some company trading on Mintpal, that brings back memories. Good idea FK! I thought I was engaged in a little bit of smalltalk before that but cannot find anything. *shrug*

The UNO markets are kind of snoozy right now, the occasional bear drops by to say high and then goes of hunting again elsewhere. All top wallets seem to HODL though, top balances on Trex are not selling (not accumulating either). I guess the current #altsareback boom cycle will pass us by because the fate of the 15k Cryptsy coins is still so uncertain. I personally have stopped buying until we learn what will happen to those. Got a few BTC ready for whenever this situation clears up ...

or should we blame UNO itself for the lack of news and topics to discuss  Huh
Haha true. Yeh there's not that much to discuss I guess. Negotiations with James Cameron about making UNO the official currency of his new movie trilogy are stalling. The lack of a premine is turning him off. Also he wants to make us the currency of the corporations, but we're all in team blue, so NAH! Wink

2. Keep BFX running with the goal of eventually earning enough in fees and other profits to recover the losses.

Big Vern Cryptsy tried that, but never succeeded  Angry, but even he understood that if he announced the losses everyone would start to withdraw funds instead of trading.
If Mt.Gox came back to the business, would anybody return to it  Huh Don't think so.

Big Vern is a liar and a thief, there are many reasons to doubt the "hack" story of Cryptsy (much more likely an inside job). And Gox was an unmitigated disaster, a platform that was run in an amateurish and fraudulent way and bleeded money for a long time, until it was too much to keep up the facade. In both cases the core was rotten before the outside. In this case it appears to be a straight theft, a clearly identifyable singular event, that caused the problem. Big difference. That's why I also mentioned a similar case where it did work out okay for all users (Poloniex).

Would I personally trust BFX with my money now? No, but others might. Ultimately it is up to the trading community to decide BFX fate now. Option 1 would be the certain death of a major platform and massive losses for many of its users. Scenario 2 has a chance of working out good or also ending up failing, but in a less catastrophic way.

Either way, the hacker must be laughing right now. He steals 120k BTC and instead of the whole community focusing their anger and chasing after him, people start hating on BFX "because socialism is bad duh".

Indeed if they follow through with this, it is more absurd then the eth hardfork. HOW in any way are people unaffected responsible for the funds of those who are???
The only reason we see this socialism complaints is because of Bitfinex unique multisig wallet implementation (which is a significant part of this problem to begin with) which means the lost BTC are consistently linked to each user on the blockchain, instead of written down in the exchange SQL database and then thrown in a pool.
Wait a hot second, they know who lost what exactly, but have no problem making all responsible?

" i am sorry, your neighbor was robbed, you must give half of what you have to them" How is this any different from what is taking place?
Yeah all stolen coins are linked to user accounts, but the theft was entirely on BFX's end. So the analogy is a bit flawed. The problem is - as always - not bitcoin but cerntalized exchanges. When the Bitcoin community will finally learn and *gasp* find a solution is the real question.

Quote
My interpretation of the situation was that if you have ANY funds on the exchange they will be cut by 30%. Is it limited to bitcoin? If it were, in the sense, i can see what you are saying.

Um the other option is tough shit. If you lost your money you lost your money. If not, get out while the going is good. Instead we have this. Bullshit.
Its an ugly situation with no easy solutions. Them also tapping ETH, LTC and USD balances definitely is controversial, I see that and would probably also be angry if I was affected. Yet I'm trying to look at it from a pragmatic perspective. There are 2 basic options:
1. Close BFX, let remaining customers get their assets out and say screw everyone else.
2. Keep BFX running with the goal of eventually earning enough in fees and other profits to recover the losses.

Bitfinex has suffered a loss, but is (maybe, hopefully?) not beyond repair. If they can keep/regain the trust of enough of their customers, they could eventually earn enough to pay everyone back. There are precendents for this, see Poloniex hack (much smaller scale but also a much smaller exchange back then). BFX does trade alts, sure. But the bulk of their income is made from BTC trading. If they want to have a shot at option 2 they HAVE to keep their BTC markets running, else they'd destroy their business. The only way to do that is the messy situation we're in now. Without "shared losses" they'd loose their main market and main source of income.

So yeah - there are plenty of "reasons", some even good, to explain and justify what they're doing. It still sucks, I won't contest that.

But BFX is an exchange, not an online wallet. The reality is that its the company that got hacked, not their individual users. So they have to take responsibility for the theft entirely upon themselves, which they are doing, and treat all customers equally.

Had Bitfinex worked like most other exchanges and use a combined cold-/hotwallet system that had gotten hacked, nobody would complain about "socialising losses", because it was the company that suffered losses in the first place and not individual customers. The loss would automatically be shared between all users. This is the same situation, just the method of theft was different.

It sucks, but is still the only option they really have IMO. And yeah, that decentralized exchange idea we keep coming back to - its really about time someone REALLY did something about that...

Someone get in contact with the hacker and tell him to dump a couple hundred bitcoin into uno and burn them.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
Go tell him https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=884467

This guy isn't the hacker?
Didn't research it thoroughly, but aparently it is (spell his name backwards). At least many seem to believe so. He's also on reddit with the same name and holds a 1000 BTC giveaway both there and here. Proof of funds and everything. Lots of reasons not to get involved obviously, that's why I ain't posting an address of mine in his thread, I don't want stolen BTC...

Lol @ 666 cat!  Cool  Not lol @ finex hack!  Angry

Hope not too many of you are affected. Hoping for Craig & Nat & whoever else your balances will be fine.

RE Excahnges:
* Finex is big, they were apparently not drained completely. Stolen funds are much less than Mt.Gox too. Maybe there's hope they can find a way to cover it over time (like Polo did back in 2014 and look where they are now)
* never heard of Mpex, what is that?
* Bittrex has never been hacked. Beginning to realize what an accomplishment that is!

Damn, missed out on this Gekko dump. Had my bids set for a 2 ton dump, but apparently you had the same idea and outbid me before it happened. Well I hope y'all enjoy the cheap magic blue stuff.

Guys SatoshiLabs Launches trezor password manager. My question is: is it possible to use it on JavaScript Wallet?
From what I read on their website the Trezor password manager is no different from a regular password manaker like KeePass. But instead of encrypting the password file with a regular master password, that you have to remember and enter each time you decrypt the file, Trezor handles encrypting and decrypting the file for you on the press of a button. The passwords stored in the password manager can be used with any service including our UNO Javascript wallet.

AFAIK you cannot use Trezor directly to encrypt/decrypt JS wallets, like clicking on the Trezor button to unlock it. But UNO Electrum is fully compatible with Trezor.

I'm curious as to how many of those wallets last opened 500-800 days ago are lost forever?

Would you guys say the majority of them are cold storage/paper wallets? Or do you think a lot of them are truly dead and gone, picked up when coin first came out then forgotten about and left to die along with their computers?

Would love some opinions on this! Smiley
address != wallet
It is perfectly possible for someone to use one and the same wallet, yet a specific input can go unspent for years even if the wallet is actively used. With the current wallet it is possible to specify exactly which inputs you want to spend, so you can only choose newer ones if you prefer. Not saying that everyone is doing that and this is why some addresses have not moved in a long time. Some addresses might very well have been forgotten about or lost. Just saying an inactive address does not mean an inactive wallet. Smiley

I was just playing with the cool new Coinomi wallet that added support for UNO, and noticed the slow chain, then saw the posts here.

Checking the chainz explorer, difficulty has been falling since block 805770.

One of the big miners must have gone offline. We'll push through it with the next block.

If I doesn't pickup in next 12 hours I'll go rent 100 ths. Thank goodness for KGW.

I've also emailed BW about it.

We've temporarily lost mmpool as the last bitcoin update broke their merge mining setup. They're working on it, but we can't get MMPOOL back online fast enough, imo.

Thank you for the update! Best community leader award goes to FK! Smiley
Definitely. A+++ Cheesy

I currently have a cold storage using Electrum but i got a couple questions.

If the elctrum or cryptapus went down would the wallet still work? or would my coins be lost forever?

OF course i do have the seed.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. lol
If you have the seed you can always recover your private keys and if you have those you can import them into another wallet if Electrum ever stops working.
But both the Electrum Wallet and Servers by Cryptap.us are on Github - so if everything else fails you could always set up your own server to reconnect to the network.

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing great.

In the very first post of this thread and also on http://unobtanium.uno/ there is a link to a UNO paper wallet generator which is https://cryptap.us/uno/paperwallet.html

Since I do not want to use this site online, I wanted to download the GitHub Repository with the link on the bottom of that site. This link however leads to bitaddress.org (the repository of the Bitcoin paper wallet generator), not the one for UNO.

Could maybe someone post the correct link (and ideally also change the wrong link on https://cryptap.us/uno/paperwallet.html)?

Thanks a lot
Kay
Cryptapus might have it posted on his Github, but I'm not sure where it is exactly.

This Uno port of Bitaddress generates keys in your browser, not on the server.
Once it loads in your browser, disconnect from the internet. Now generate your paper wallet offline. Print it and close your browser window.

I understand that with this Javascript paper wallet generator the addresses are created client-side in the browser. However, and I admit, I might be a bit paranoid here, but even when the laptop is disconnected from the internet while the addresses are being created, there is, in my understanding, still a chance that a virus or malware records what is going on and sends the created (private) keys somewhere as soon as the laptop is reconnected to the internet again. Not the most probable scenario, but still not impossible.

In order to create a cold storage for my UNO coins, I decided to do the following instead: I have an older laptop that never is connected to the internet, but is connected to a printer. On this offline laptop I installed the Electrum UNO client. There I select one of the public keys, retrieve the corresponding private key, and print both on paper. I've been doing this with many other altcoins (for some of them there is no paper wallet generator out there) and it's worked very well.
Or you could boot your computer from a Linux live CD for creating the keys. Bit easier than relying on keeping a second & offline-only computer around. Cheesy

I will simply not trust any new altcoin exchange at this point. Not unless they give plenty of good reasons to trust and use their platform. Had to remove way too many exchanges from our website over the past years...

Hello UNO Team and Community,

Can someone help for 1 min?

Could anyone please point me in the right direction in regards to finding a UNO high resolution logo?

I will add some UNO apparel to www.CryptosCloset.com

Already have quite a few coins on there and wanted to add UNO asap to the inventory selection.

This will allow anyone to purchase UNO gear with Crypto Currency via CoinPayments.com shopping cart plugin and by Paypal / Credit Card!

Thanks!

Rich

I reconstructed the logo a while ago for a project I had to abandon, here's the highest res image I have from back then, hope it helps:

Couple of old school coins in mega-pumps currently. Had a little MYR that I just sold off at 10x, unfortunately the pump started before I was done accumulating so it wasn't much.

Not saying this will definitely also happen to UNO, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us go up in the near future. We're not on Polo though, which is definitely a catalyst for pumps that were missing.

Btcpool.exchange seems to have removed UNO. I'm 110% ok with that, because the exchange always appeared to be unprofessional with misspelled words and such. Last time I checked, there was no Uno out there and no trades had occurred.

I've removed them from the OP and will ask Learminer to remove them from Unobtanium.uno soon.

Removed the dead link.
