Looks like OROBANK won the chip on block 241285. My number hit next on 241292. Congratulations OROBANK, put it to good use. Please confirm that you are aware the chip is yours and be prepared to send payment to zefir for shipping as soon as today.

Thanks for tracking this.

With that, I will send the 30 sample chips (which I still have not received yet) as follows:
  • BkkCoins: 17
  • marto74: 6
  • allten: 2
  • hata1234: 2
  • OROBANK: 1
  • private project: 2

Those I don't have shipping addresses yet I already PMd. Chips will be sent the same day they are delivered.
362  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 13, 2013, 07:08:40 AM
One sample would be free for distribution. None from my 1st batch buyers has enough ordered to be entitled for that one, while users strombom, OROBANK, or Exoskeleton have at least some share in that.

Comments?

Me and strombom each have 50 chips in the 1st batch, and OROBANK has 100. Perhaps we could draw straws and OROBANK could get 2 of the 4 straws. strombom and I would each only get one straw. So OROBANK has a 50% chance while me and strombom each have a 25% chance. Does that sound fair to you guys?

We should decide this soon because you could get the chips tomorrow and after you have them we don't want to waste any time before shippng. To keep it quick and simple I suggest zefir does the drawing of straws for us.

No, I am not going to draw straws, since half of you would assume I cheated Wink

But the Idea is basically what I had in mind, just needed to wait and assure that with SebastianJu we can supply the core projects with samples.

Rule for the one sample

We are at block 241262 right now. The first block >= 241280 whose hash's last digits matches the digits assigned decides who is to get the sample. The assignment is follows:
  • OROBANK: 1, 2
  • Exoskeleton: 3
  • strombom: 4

One blockchain to rule as all.

Someone please quote the rule.

Thanks for the heads up, folks.

I re-posted my issue with the cancelled 8th batch, let's see what happens. Obviously they started working on tickets, since the one I opened some days ago to complain about the 'one set of sample chips per shipping address' mistake was closed.

To be clear: I am not worried to loose the coins, Avalon made so much money, the do not need to steal. My major concern is to get 10k chips next year that will became almost worthless by then.

Cheers
364  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 12, 2013, 08:33:23 PM
@zefir... i shipped 20 sample chips to burnin and will wait with shipping the remaining ones after i checked back with you.

30 samples were delivered... 20 samples are on its way to burnin... Unfortunately i was 2 minutes too late at the post counter so it will be taken tomorrow from that branch. This way sending via express didnt make sense anymore... so it should be with burnin the day after tomorrow... Smiley

I worked with antistatic workspace and pincette. I really hope i did everything correctly. Ill post later some pictures of the chips. They are really awful tiny.

The other chips i will package today after checking back with zefir.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=187660.msg2452212#msg2452212

Great to hear!

Tracking mine also fails, i.e. EMS tracking indicates they are still in Beijing. So I might get them tomorrow.

After marto74 clarified that he need the samples from batch 1 he paid for, I'd basically stick with what we discussed above, so I am to send:
  • BkkCoins: 17
  • marto74: 6
  • allten: 2
  • hata1234: 2
  • private project: 2

One sample would be free for distribution. None from my 1st batch buyers has enough ordered to be entitled for that one, while users strombom, OROBANK, or Exoskeleton have at least some share in that.

890 machines or 890 people or 890 orders?

890 ppl ≃ 890 orders != 890 machines

> 890 machines
If 890 ppl,may have 1000 order,may 3000 machines.......

Yeah, we don't really know. They said they would limit preorders to 3 per but then they still allowed, for ex., Zephir to preorder 100. Luckily for the other preorder customers, he "only" bought 20sth (24, 27? I forgot - anyway...). Maybe they will tell us the "real" number after bank transfers have arrived (doubtful).

I pre-ordered 100 beginning of April, long before they limited pre-order size to 3. And I ordered and paid 24 Jupiters, as stated right after payment here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=228525.msg2433502#msg2433502

Why this negative attitude? Why doubtful, when I have been as transparent as it can get? Sorry if you feel offended by something I did or did not.

Peace.
366  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 11, 2013, 10:19:38 PM
Let me know what you will do.

I basically agree and if the demands you posted are reported by the developers, then we can ensure a sufficient support. The only buyer from my list who would get less samples than he paid for is marto74 (2 instead of 6), but if you know for sure that he's fine with that, I'm all ok.

Now we need to wait and see when (my tracking number says samples are still in Beijing) they arrive and how many of them.

367  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 11, 2013, 08:42:46 PM
zefir... could you post the list of sample chips divided by batch?

In my case, it does not make sense to split off the first batch, since there were large orders in there with no committed support so far:

The numbers for the 1st batch are displayed as chips and percentage of whatever we will receive with the first delivery. As you can see, the main open source projects won't all get enough.

Given that most of the products out there are based on the four designs (burnin, BkkCoins, allten, Avalon) and given that bitmine.ch will receive their own set of sample chips, I would like to ensure that at least those are supported with enough chips from the first delivery. Assuming 30 samples delivered for the 1st batch, I would propose the following distribution:
  • BkkCoins / burnin: 8 chips each
  • marto74: 6
  • allten: 4
  • hata1234: 2

Two chips go to a developer who wants to remain private for now (he ordered enough chips in the 1st batch for 2 samples).

Maybe we could organize a combined supply, i.e. instead of both of us sending chips to burnin, you send 14 to burnin and I send 14 to BkkCoins. That saves us some shipping costs, on the other hand it reduces redundancy and increases risk of some developer's package getting lost and leaving him without any chips.

What do you guys (both owners and supporters) think?
368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GROUP BUY] 100 KnC Jupiter 1-500 on: June 10, 2013, 08:18:10 PM
Update: 24 Jupiters ordered

I placed the order for 24 Jupiter units (order #1922) and finalized the payment via BitPay (txid):

Clearing Overpayment
I paid 1636 BTC in total, that is 68.17 BTC per device.

The overpayment of 11.83 BTC has been returned (txid) to the 4 addresses where 80 BTC were sent from.

Those 6 BTC I received for registration has been sent back to sender (txid).

With that, we should be clean.

Further Processing
For now, let us pray and hope that KnC's planning is more accurate than what we have seen so far from other manufacturers.

Whenever there are news, I will post in this thread, so buyers should add it to their watch list.

The Jupiters are ordered for hosting in Sweden, that's why I did not pay VAT and shipping. When time has come and you want your unit shipped, we will have to arrange this with KnC later (you will have to pay VAT and shipping).

That's all for now.

PS: I was expecting a higher demand and ended up doing lots of work for nothing. If you feel that I did it right, please consider rating me, being it over at bitcoin-OTC or in the local forum ratings. Thanks.

370  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 09, 2013, 10:42:19 PM
Its CAN-BUS all boards are wired in parallel on the differential bus lines.
The flat cable will run through all connectors of one stack.

I see. I would expect that Enterpoint also used a bus and just looped through the two connectors. I like their concept, since it enables to stack say 16 boards very easily: you need to build 15 equally length ribbon cables (8cm) and connect boards one after the other. I suppose it is more complicated to build a long cable with equidistant plugs to connect 16 Bitburner boards, but might be wrong.
371  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 09, 2013, 09:52:50 PM
The connector to the left (next to the fan-connector) looks to me like the up/down-connector the Cairnsmore1 boards were equipped with to chain stacked boards.

But the CM1 had two of them, one to connect to the lower board, one to the upper. How is this planned to work with Bitburner? Or am I mixing things up?
372  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 09, 2013, 08:05:22 PM
So then Are you going to send some sample chips ?

Of course I will - that was the idea for supporting open source development after all.

But instead of having some fair distribution scheme based on what people paid for, I now need to be the arbiter and decide whom to send samples. Make three friends and 20 enemies - thanks Avalon.
373  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 09, 2013, 07:54:53 PM
SUP; rgzen; lan787

Thanks. But we do not need it any more. With only 30 samples for 70.000 chips ordered, there will be no support based distribution of samples.

Folks, forget about the chip distribution scheme I was trying to implement over the past weeks. It became irrelevant, sorry for wasting your time.
374  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GROUP BUY] 100 KnC Jupiter 1-500 on: June 09, 2013, 07:38:55 PM
Update: Phase one closed, Group Buy failed
As already expected before, the first time window closed and this group buy failed. Please do not send any more coins to 1EqJmgTZkiA5u7FaJmbiK9otznpx3G5Qha

With interest for only 7 devices, the demand was lower than expected.

What now?
I got a response from KnC clarifying the following topics
  • Pre-order closing time is 2013-06-10T22:00Z (or tomorrow Monday, midnight CET)
  • ordering initially for hosting and then shipping devices to different addresses is ok

Two potential approaches to finalize the deal for those who are still interested to buy their Jupiter:
  • we proceed with the process as planned, i.e. you send 80 BTC per device to order to 1EW13ao9f6nFh51NrdKjLH1DTCgBbcFKH9 within the next 24h; I'll order tomorrow with devices designated for hosting and whoever wants his device shipped to him directly will have to pay shipping + VAT; after payment I will return the overpaid coins (80 - final price) to sender
  • you just get the position in pre-order queue from me and organize everything by yourself (I'd need to understand the process that is accepted by KnC for this transfer, if you know more, please let me know)

All who sent coins to 1EqJmgTZkiA5u7FaJmbiK9otznpx3G5Qha, please PM me and tell me what you prefer. I will send the coins in this address back to sender when this deal is finalized.

Thanks.
375  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GROUP BUY] 100 KnC Jupiter 1-500 on: June 09, 2013, 07:07:38 PM
I spent most of the past 5 years on financial blogs and you find out that what people may do is more of an activator to others than what they eventually do.

Frontrunning means cashing out some chips before the next guy in basically a prisoner's dilemma situation.  If trader A knows that trader B and C all can get the same info they just got, panic sets in and even though it would be better for all three traders to work together and not panic, there is no trust or guarantee so one usually does what's best for themselves immediately

It might not be tomorrow or next week but the clock is ticking for kncminer & whoever is controlling avalon's chip funds to move that btc into production.
I was just pointing out your move since it was even more public than most when people see those types of numbers and a short deadline.

Fear, animal spirits, fight or flight, you name it..  and this is mostly a oneway market which is why I brought up the marketplace.   It may be best for someone like you to raise the value of what you already got instead of doubling down to just chase more coins with no real stability in its price.

Ok, with your experience you then are playing in a different league than I do. I am not a trader and just enjoy using BTC as currency for its superior properties. If you are saying money transfer into and out of BTC in the volumes we are discussing here should be hidden from public, I fear there is something seriously conceptually wrong and I should start selling all my coins.
376  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 09, 2013, 06:46:55 PM
zefir... it looks like every buyer will only get 30 sample chips regardless how many batches he bought... do you have already a plan how to spread the chips now? Will only the buyers in first batch have the right to get a sample chip or will you raise the amount of chips needed to be allowed to get a sample chip? So that the 30 chips are spread about all bought batches? I tend to the last...
Edit: Ill do it like i said. Only one buyer through all 4 batches has bought enough chips to be eligible for 3 chips. All other chips are spread through the developers. Every dev in my list will get at least one chip probably.

Sorry, was late and started another thread here.

Very disappointing.

Yes, disappointing for the users that thought they can get a sample by buying more chips and even more disappointing for the developer. But as far as i spoke with the devs... with one chip they can test nearly everything. A second chip is good for testing the communication between 2 chips. Everything above this is practically luxus. So i think it will be enough to prove the designs working. And i think when everone in my list gets one or 2 chips there will be a good amount of miners and assembly services the community can chose from because a working miner was shown... Smiley Its not as bad as it looks. The miner can be tested with one or 2 chips.

That might be true for the bare hashing functionality. But you can't test chip-to-chip or inter-board communication for stacking.

Alas, that is not even my point. It was never written that there is such a limitation - it was a part of the ToS that sample chips will be delivered for a 10k chip order. I already stopped to count the hours I spent to collect the owner / supporter information for a most transparent and fair distribution. Plus the effort of everyone providing this data - everything is moot and a waste of time now.

378  Bitcoin / Hardware / Good News: Avalon ASIC Samples shipped, (sorry for the panic over the weekend) on: June 09, 2013, 05:54:46 PM
Edit:
BitSyncom clarified that this was a miscommunication here and sample chips will be in fact provided per 10k batch.

Sorry for causing panic over the weekend.

Folks, miners and Avalon ASIC board developers,

I just got emailed from Avalon that the sample chips for the ASIC chips ordered are shipped. Even received an EMS shipping number, great news!

But I was also informed that only one set of sample chips will be delivered to one receiver address, which essentially means that you will receive 30 samples, no matter if you ordered 10k or 200k chips.

Given that I did the group buy with 70k chips for almost 300 users and there are at least 10 projects working on mining boards and desperately awaiting the samples for validation, this is disastrous news. It means that only one or two of them will be given the chance to finalize their design before chips arrive.

Very disappointing Sad

379  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GROUP BUY] 100 KnC Jupiter 1-500 on: June 09, 2013, 05:33:06 PM
This seems like a good 'learning moment' in many regards.
I know you are steamed right now, but overall many need to open their eyes here

When you were chasing ~5% gain on an all or nothing bet (if you hedged, you would of already bought your 20 jupiters, and then placed the rest IF you could swing the 100 from others)

Now btc price tanks and you lose way more on this than gaining 5%.

'How could we have known' ?

You made public an OBSCENE transaction that by definition will have to liquidate btc very soon (kncminer HAS to convert once they get from you shortly - there is a reason for darkpools in stock exhanges)

Anyone sitting on a pile of btc that saw your post would NEED to sell before kncminer tries to.. and then there was also more notice of Avalon BTC funds still sitting and not exchanged into chips either...

so this quickly switched the market from fun casino to a run before the bust..

there are just too many big piles of btc doubling down into next wave of miners that HAVE to exchange to real world chip facilities.  A ponzi we will mimic

I feel people in your stature need to position yourself into wealth protection which means cementing an ecology for btc.  Not easy at all but without it all your wealth will turn to dust.

I'm a small player that only keeps 10 btc on hand and trade with anything over that.  So I was sitting on 10 the last few days and when I saw your post and Yufi's I knew that I needed to keep some powder dry soon..  and here we are.

I fail to get your point.

If you argue that this group buy had any impact on the current exchange rate collapse, then you clearly overestimate it. So far, there is interest for only 7 devices, one buyer already stepped back. That's what, 500 BTC? You seriously think that this has some relevance? By your logic, Avalon was responsible for some recent crashes after announcing their sales and with that indicated some coin movements. You won't get much support for your claim to not use BTC as what it is meant for - namely as currency.

As for the remainder of your post, what exactly is your critique?
380  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [CLOSED] Avalon ASIC chip distribution on: June 09, 2013, 12:32:15 PM
good news   Smiley

Though I already assigned my share, I would suggest to distribute the remaining samples to the guys with no or uneven numbers (if they still are on track). Overload the current sympathy leaders doesn't make much sense to me.

Final distribution will be decided when it comes to shipping. For sure there will be a rounding scheme to process the fractional portions of sample chips.

But your proposal is not fully thought through: if announced that the remaining chips are to be distributed to those who received the least support, two things will happen:
  • lots of claims how unfair this is and how it voids the idea of proportional supporting
  • everyone would claim his own chips, hoping to get one sample for the 0.1 he would get base on his order

It always works best if kept simple and consistent, that's why I will keep the initially proposed proportional support distribution scheme.
