It terms of the mining software / firmware BKKcoins basically you are going to provide that for the Klondike correct as open source as well to the community and I hope we can help develop and revise, improve this as a community of Klondike users? Basically we shouldn't need to give "free" Klondikes to those who code for CGminer or other software etc do we? I find that counter productive to the whole spirit of the open source aspect of this project... very parasitic actually right? I think we need to NIP that right in the bud so no one is held hostage by miner developers.
I would prefer to add a small fee, which is sent to you as a donation for every download for the Klondike, anytime I provide the software / firmware to someone who buys a board from me. Of course giving you a royalty for each board sold to me is a must and I will be put that directly into my fees for those buying boards. We should all be supporting your work this way I hope. Of course some will leech off the project but really we should be giving what we can to you for all this work you are doing right?
Adapting cgminer for Klondike should be way less challenging than the HW part and I assume there are lots of folks out there who could do it once the protocol interface is specified. Otherwise I can do that (did driver optimization for CM1 boards before). Since I plan to get a prototype assembled with my portion of sample chips, I will be able to test early. As for the compensation for the work being done in this project: since Bkk is not going to produce and sell the boards he is designing (in contrast to e.g. burnin), the only way to get compensated for the hard work is through donations. That's Open Source, but since you can't pay your rent with the reputation you gain, I firmly hope end believe that everyone who will take the design to build Klondike clones won't forget to send a donation. Edit: overlapped with Bkk's post, sorry.

Its really hard to see that avalon is giving zero support now. I mean i have a batch on hold since 4 days, the transaction has over 600 confirmations but nothing moves... and no one from avalon gets back to me... its putting pressure on me because its groupbuyers bitcoins mostly and im starting to get a bit angry now... i mean not giving support on products... might be... but no support at all... no chance to reach someone?
Not wanting to spam this thread, nor to discourage you, but: I tried every single communication channel available for weeks now - not a single line of feedback Good Luck

This happened to me some weeks ago: I sent 782 coins to pay an Avalon ASIC chip order over blockchaininfo wallet from an address that I collected BTC for a group buy before. I did not notice that one of the many inputs was not yet confirmed, so the whole payment did not make it into the blockchain (posted more details here). That caused me lots of trouble, since when the payment finally went through, my order was cancelled due to the payment delay. And since there is no support from Avalon, I lost both my coins and the chips. Not sure if this is a blockchaininfo wallet feature to process payments from unconfirmed inputs, at least I would have expected some warning.

Buy backs and RefundsI have currently more folks interested in buying more chips than those asking to get them refunded. Therefore I am opening a limited buy-back window for all of you who changed their minds. The current demand is for ~4k more chips, so here is the process how to get your coins back: - PM me your refund request with
- a single CVS formatted line: <forum nick>; <-N>; <-C>; <sending address>
Note:
- this is the exact same line you bought your chips with, but now with negative number of chips N and negative number of coins C
- all or nothing - no partial refunds, i.e. if you bough 100 chips with one particular order, you can't get only 60 chips refunded
- a signature of that line signed with <sending address>
Which sending adress is that one?, the first one is the sending adress you get generated on eg. mtgox, but what is the other one? Have you read and understood my OP? I stated at least 10 times in this thread to NOT use MtGox or any other services that use addresses you do not control (i.e. can not sign with). The <sending address> has to be the same address where the chips were paid from, coins will go back to sender (that's why it is important to control the address). You need to sign your request to prevent false claims. Does this help?

All good folks the format I asked for is what roy7 / dex1 promote, i.e.: SUP; <your name>; <project>But no worries, swapping the positions will force me to extend my script-writing capabilities, so it is not a bad thing at all So far, almost all support went to burnin, which ensures that he will receive enough chips to even test stacking functionality. Generally, with the portion of reserved chips I plan to supply all Open Source projects that offer manufacturing services with chips and ask to send me a fully functional prototype board for testing in return. I'll post my test results to support people still indecisive which board to take.

Update: Sample ChipsNo news from Avalon directly so far, but relevant updates from folks attending the Bitcoin conference: At Bitcoin 2013, Yifu said they will ship the sample chips (30 pieces per order of 10k) by the end of May.
The resulting facts for our chips ordered are - first samples will show up at my door second half of June and be in developers' hands by end of June
- for each 1k chips ordered you can get 3 sample chips
Request ProcedureGenerally, I am going to treat every buyer equally, i.e. for any 334 chips ordered you are entitled to request one sample chip. Since the purpose of samples is to validate the designs currently being developed and assure having them finalizing until the ordered chips arrive, samples are really useful for developers only. Therefore, if you are not designing a mining board but have enough chips ordered to be entitled for samples, please be fair and abstain from your right to support those who need them more. Also note that receiving samples requires the shipping and handling costs as described in the OP to be paid. Since most of orders are smaller ones and not in multiples of 334, I am proposing the following model for sample chip distribution: - everyone is either a project owner or supporter
- an owner declares his demand for samples
- a supporter declares his binding request to delegate his portion of samples to an owner
Developers that seek support please post a description of your project (or link to thread) and declare yourself as owner. For easier maintenance, please include this single CSV formatted line in your post: The chips you personally ordered will be accounted to your project. Supporters please make up your mind whom you would like to support and provide me a CSV one liner formatted as: SUP;<supporter name>;<owner name> As before, do this either in this thread or via PM. Please limit my account work by placing your support only once and for all the chips you ordered. I will collect your input until sample chips arrive and distribute them relatively to the supporting orders. Thanks.

Dear BkkCoins,
I am watching this thread and your project closely and I stopped by to demonstrate my respect for your work.
When I agreed to fund chips for distribution to DIY folks and supporting Open Source projects, this was exactly what I hoped to enable. Working Open Source does not only mean throwing some documents to GitHub - it also implies you personal openness to listen to your supporters and consider resulting ideas. Having so many contributors actively following you is your ultimate proof that you did everything right.
I would be glad if the 10 BTC I just sent to your address (1BvpJvejSmtWjuDfytZL5HTBUjoXokazp9) could help you to at least cover some expenses on your way to a working prototype. Let me know when you need more. Additionally, I have you on my list for projects to receive a portion of the chip samples (so no need to destroy working Avalons for that, folks).
As my potential contribution to this project, I might be able to win a very experienced and skilled developer to design a custom water-cooling block for Klondike that will also be released as open source. Please PM me as soon as your time allows to provide the relevant technical specs.
Best of Luck, zefir

i want to buy more Chips . is there some available ? Not yet, only minor refunds issued (less than 300 chips). Since in every batch I sold more than initially planned, the returned chips are going first back into a reserve pool. I will announce publicly should that number reach a given threshold over what I intend to reserve for the DIY and my own projects.

Avalon releasing Reference DocsAs announced in his thread, BitSyncom released an initial set of reference docs that can be found on GitHub.
- if within demands, I'll refund you for the chips you gave back in full
Next StepsWith the initial set of reference docs provided, the active DIY designers have started to refactor their boards. BitSyncom assured that the docs are going to be completed in the next weeks. The next relevant step will then be the delivery of sample chips, which should happen somewhere during the next 4 weeks.

|
|
Next StepsAfter finalizing the batch orders, all further processing steps are depending solely on Avalon's actions and responses. The rough schedule I am pulling out of thin air looks as follows - beginning of May: wait and see <-- we are here
- second half of May: Avalon releases reference design and documentation
- end of May: first chip samples get shipped
- beginning of June: developers finalizing their designs and ordering sample chips
- mid of June: developers assemble and demo their mining products
- second half of June: I collect shipping information for the chips ordered
- beginning of July: first batches produced and shipped to me
- mid of July: chips get delivered and I start distribution shipments
This is the ideal schedule based on the numbers provided by Avalon. We all know that realistically each step will be delayed by some non-predictable amount of time, so let us sit and wait a while. I will post updates as soon as they are available - no need to explicitly ask for them. Notice: After Sales Trades / SpeculationSeveral buyers changed their mind (either realizing they don't want the chips any more or speculating for a quick buck) and approached me to update my data on file to account private trades they did. Please understand that I am not supporting those trades, mainly because I don't want to carry the responsibility for something going wrong or find myself in the middle of disputes. If you want to trade your chips, the correct way to do this is as follows: - find an agreement with the new buyer
- organize and process escrow
- when the time has come to supply shipping address, provide that of the new buyer and sign with your original payment address
- wait for the chips to get delivered and release escrow
Alternatively, since there are still interested buyers asking for chips, I might be able to buy them back from you -- PM me to check if there is demand. This is a limited offer and (as sales are final) I reserve the right to refuse to buy at any time. Cheers, zefir

Wow, really? That little bit caused the whole thing to get stalled up?
I'm tempted to say the answer to your question might be "maybe" but what happens if you try to send out a smaller amount?
If indeed that prevents the address from being swept, it would be interesting that all I need to do is pay 1 unverified satoshi each day and my account is locked down
Did that today, i.e. send the coins again, but reduced the amount by the still unconfirmed input. That worked, i.e. transaction got confirmed within minutes. Obviously the problematic input is left out for the transaction. Problem is therefore limited to situations when you spent all coins (which sadly will mostly be the case in group buy type of fund collections).
|
|
|
Dear Bitcoiners, I ran into a stupid situation that prevented me to spend the coins from an address, since one input failed to get confirmed. First I might need to say sorry if I missed to RTFM or it is a known fact. Otherwise this might turn out to be a reliable way to lock funds in an address and render them unspendable for some time. This is how I ran into it: I am buying Avalon ASIC chips in 10k batches and distribute them to DIY folks in smaller volumes to support the de-centralization of ASIC mining. I use the blockchain for accounting, i.e. there is one common address ( 162HWpt9njiDsk5nwGixw7fDPuNy55Kh9X) all buyers send coins to and approve their order by signing with their sending address. As soon as the final balance in that address reached a threshold, I ordered the next batch and paid with the collected coins. I process payments with piuk's MyWallet and everything went fine for several chip orders, but failed badly with my last payment. After sending all remaining coins (500+ BTC) for a partial payment from that address, several hours later I noticed it was still not confirmed. Investigated and found that one single input (out of 100+) was pending unconfirmed, holding the transaction in limbo. 24h later my payment transaction was canceled, but since I still see the problematic input pending unconfirmed, I am not able to sweep this address. As the inputs to be used for an output are not selectable (at least in MyWallet), isn't this an easy and reliable scheme to prevent addresses from being swept: just send a small amount with no tx fees and get it stalled for 24h? Any advice how to prevent this (other than waiting inputs to confirm)? Thanks
