1001  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / Re: [Diskussion] - Aleph Zero (AZERO) - Allgemeiner Diskussionsthread on: July 13, 2023, 04:22:00 PM

Quelle: https://twitter.com/tier10k/status/1679512873498816519

1003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: wBTC and BTC on: July 13, 2023, 02:41:23 PM
Where did you see wBTC at $20k? That would be a great arbitrage opportunity since you can still unwrap it (redeem/burn) for real BTC onchain. Cheesy

I took some screenshots earlier today and posted about it on the German board. It looks like WBTC had a significantly lower price than BTC for several (!) hours. I just think that no large orders were possible during this period. If there were, some users certainly made a killing.

It looks like CMC already fixed their chat (since you won't find this dips anymore, if you check the chart now). This is what it looked like this morning:

1005  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / [Diskussion] - Polygon [MATIC/POL] - Allgemeiner Diskussionsthread on: July 13, 2023, 11:37:19 AM

1006  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / Re: Litecoin Halving on: July 13, 2023, 11:16:50 AM
August 2023, 08:49 UTC erwartet.

Eine Übersicht findet ihr hier:

Quelle: https://www.nicehash.com/countdown/ltc-halving-2023-08-06-11-00

Weitere Informationen zum nächsten Litecoin Halving:

What is a Litecoin block halving event?

Block halving event happens every 4 years on Litecoin blockchain. Litecoin's initial block reward was 50 LTC. The block reward splits every 4 years. This lowers the rate at which Litecoins are generated. The halving is periodical and is programmed into Litecoin's code. Current Litecoin block reward is 12.5 LTC, after the halving, the block reward will be 6.25 LTC. Halving will end approximately by the year 2142.

Why was this done?

Conventional FIAT currencies allow governments or banks to print money and cause inflation. In Litecoin's case, the total supply will be maxed out at 84,000,000 LTC. Printing extra money causes inflation, if there is no extra money printed, the value of the Litecoin should increase as the demand will rise (more people will start to use Litecoin) and supply will lower or stay flat (no more Litecoins are "printed"). This makes Litecoin similar to gold, which has limited supply and cannot be "printed" or artificially created.

1007  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / Re: [Diskussion] - Firechain (FIRE) - Allgemeiner Diskussionsthread on: July 13, 2023, 10:03:41 AM

1008  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / Wrapped Bitcoin [WBTC] verliert seinen Peg - Was passiert hier? on: July 13, 2023, 10:00:06 AM

Weiß jemand was hier los ist?

Quelle: CoinMarketCap, 7 Tage WBTC Chart. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/wrapped-bitcoin/

Info: Was ist WBTC?

Quote
WBTC stands for Wrapped Bitcoin, simply an ERC-20 token that represents Bitcoin—one WBTC equals one BTC. A BTC can be converted into a WBTC and vice-versa. Being an ERC-20 token makes the transfer of WBTC faster than normal Bitcoin, but the key advantage of WBTC is its integration into the world of Ethereum wallets, decentralized apps (dapps), and smart contracts. At time of publication, there are over 280,000 WBTC in circulation.

1010  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Wurde an der Forensoftware / Webserber etwas geändert? on: July 13, 2023, 09:22:42 AM

1011  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Europe: The real Bitcoin and Blockchain superpower? on: July 13, 2023, 09:17:16 AM
I used Bitnodes.io too

I double-checked the Bitnodes statistics and it looks like Hansen is indeed correct.

Europe (ex. UK) has about 34.68%, while the US only has 30.91%. If you include the UK, the difference becomes even bigger, namely: 37.97% (Europe incl. UK).

Code:
US: 30.91%

Europe (ex. UK): 34,68%
Europe (incl. UK): 37.97%

United Kingdom: 3.29%

Germany: 13.77%
Netherlands: 4.41%
France: 3.70%
Finland: 1.91%
Spain: 1.18%
Italy: 1.07%
Sweden: 0.95%
Czechia: 0.82%
Ireland: 0.79%
Austria: 0.79%
Poland: 0.78%
Belgium: 0.66%
Greece: 0.65%
Portugal: 0.62%
Romania: 0.41%
Lithuania: 0.40%
Hungary: 0.38%
Bulgaria: 0.35%
Luxembourg: 0.28%
Slovakia: 0.27%
Denmark: 0.17%
Estonia: 0.17%
Latvia: 0.15%

And a few smaller ones ...

Yes for German citizens, it's not so bad but it won't last long. Thanks to Europe when they will say the taxes shall be XX% for every country

To my knowledge, this is not true. As of today, the biggest part of tax legislation (income taxes etc.) in the EU is the responsibility of the individual member states and I have not been able to find any serious efforts on the part of the EU to change this. Accordingly, the competences in tax legislation on the part of the EU are still very limited today. And I honestly do not believe that this will change in the near future. The member states are neither willing to give up their tax sovereignty nor is tax legislation an easy legal field to harmonise.

However, you're right on the last part: I also don't believe that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies will remain tax-free in Germany forever (after holding them for a year ofc). Austria has just revised its tax legislation and introduced a 27.5% tax, the same as for shares. I can imagine that similar legislation in Germany will follow in the next few years. The government realised after the last bull market how much tax they were missing out on.
1012  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I think it's time to leave Binance, any alternatives? on: July 13, 2023, 08:47:22 AM
Even if its just a rumour, sooner or later it will become reality as that will be the only way Binance will get license to operate in EU.

Yea, you are maybe right.

What annoys me the most is not necessarily the fact that Binance may have handed over user data to the German authorities (that's also crap ofc, but if they want to operate in the EU, they have to comply with the law). But rather that this may have happened on a large scale and without a German court order.

And it feels more like this: Hey authorities, take everything you want and much more, as long as you let us continue to do business in your country.

If Binance, in anticipatory obedience, really passes on my data to any authority without my knowledge and without being legally obliged to do so, I find that more than questionable. To be honest, there can be no greater red flag.

And the case around the German exchange Bitcoin.de is in fact completely different. Until the data was handed over to the German authorities, there was a long legal dispute, because Bitcoin.de was initially not willing to hand over the user data. Only when they were obliged to do so by a German court ruling they handed over the data. They at least tried to protect the privacy of their users. Binance, on the other hand, doesn't seem to care about the privacy of its users at all.

1014  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Europe: The real Bitcoin and Blockchain superpower? on: July 12, 2023, 05:15:26 PM
I believe the data is manipulated.

That was my first impression too. I had always thought of Hansen as a reputable Bitcoin and crypto researcher and was therefore quite surprised by his post. Nevertheless, I would like to get some feedback, since different stats providers give different results.

So we have Europe with ~23% while USA have 30%

Nodes: Europe has the highest number of Bitcoin nodes False

Where did you get that data from? Would be awesome, if you could link it.

Bitnodes posts 61% n/a and US with 9.71% and Germany with 8.07%. See here: https://bitnodes.io/

The majority of these jobs are remote jobs working for companies outside Europe. And that's normal, since the company's aim is to target the European population.
Two thirds, I doubt when you see how it's going on linkedin.com, cryptojoblist.com, and others.
Europe doesn't create jobs but foreign companies do it

Valid argument, true. However, any stats on this?

That was a joke righ? the most killing regulation, worse than ...

Yea, MiCa.. I am not a fan either. Hansen posted this on MiCa some weeks ago:

"One regulation to rule them all"... WTF, lol.

Source: https://twitter.com/paddi_hansen/status/1649070968579452933/photo/1

These figures should have been compared with other types of investment in their country. The way it's shown could lead you to believe that these are rates created specifically for crypto, when that's not the case.

True, however in Germany the tax regime is indeed very intersting for holders. After one year your coins will be tax free if you don't trade them, while stocks will always trigger a 25% + church tax + soli tax. No matter how long you will hold them. Properties will trigger the regular income tax for 10 years. Accordingly, compared to other asset classes, cryptocurrencies are quite favourably taxed in Europe's largest economy, Germany. But that's only a part of Europe ofc.

Even quoting 4 countries where the rate is low, you have to look at the other countries as well and make an average. Look at countries ranging from 30 to 40%. How it's favorable? I'm crying each year

True, the tax average in all member states would be a useful measure. However, one would also have to weight according to crypto users in the individual states, which would then again greatly limit the significance of the statistics.
1015  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I think it's time to leave Binance, any alternatives? on: July 12, 2023, 04:11:12 PM
It looks like Binance is currently pushing Source of Wealth Declarations in several European countries.

Source: https://twitter.com/heartereum/status/1679152137182257152/photo/1

In addition, there have been rumours in Germany for some time that Binance has passed on transaction histories and user data to the authorities on a large scale (but there is no direct source for this). However, the authorities have announced in the Bitcoin.de court case in which 4000 data sets were handed to the NRW authorities, that other exchanges could follow soon. In this case, suspicion falls on Binance again.

If you have to use a CEX as a FIAT gateway, think twice if you still want to use Binance.

1017  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Ihr fragt Euch warum es keine Bitcoin ATMs in D gibt? on: July 12, 2023, 02:57:56 PM

Quelle: https://bity.com/

Quelle: https://help.bity.com/en/articles/4556986-what-are-the-atm-transaction-fees

1018  Economy / Service Discussion / Europe: The real Bitcoin and Blockchain superpower? on: July 12, 2023, 02:45:34 PM
I recently found some interesting statistics on Twitter that left me a little surprised.

Actually, I thought that the US and most Asian countries were ahead in the field of Bitcoin and Blockchain. Especially when it comes to big Bitcoin and crypto services and providers. However, the statistics below show a different picture.

It seems Europe is ahead when it comes to:

  • Nodes: Europe has the highest number of Bitcoin and Ethereum nodes.
  • On-Chain activity: Largest absolute number & relative share of on-chain activity
  • Regulation: most comprehensive crypto-regulation globally (MiCa)
  • Jobs: two thirds of global crypto industry jobs
  • Venture Capital: 50% of venture funded crypto projects globally
  • Tax: favorable tax regimes (especially Germany, Portugal, Poland, Belgium)
  • Developers: largest share of blockchain developers (tied with US, 29% each)
  • Values: Strong values of digital/data sovereignty and decentralization

(at least that's what Patrick Hansen, a well-known EU researcher on crypto strategy and policy, claims after analyzing the statistics; see sources below for original tweet).

Bitcoin, Blockchain and Crypto Jobs:

Global Cryptocurrency Transaction Volume:

VC Investments:

Crypto Tax Rates:

Sources: https://twitter.com/paddi_hansen/status/1675439201347616768

I still have trouble naming big European providers, since all the big names are located overseas. Somewhat established European crypto brands are Bitstamp, Bitpanda, Ledger, Bitcoin.de or Kaiko. However, the big guys are either located in the US or not located anywhere (e.g. Binance).

Opinions on Hansen's standpoint? If you have more statistics on Europe or the rest of the world, feel free to share them. Maybe we can map the development of the global crypto landscape a little better in this thread.
1019  Other / Meta / Re: Save your nice merit records here - LAST UPDATE: 12/07/2023 on: July 12, 2023, 01:41:55 PM
Hey merit friends,

I just updated the thread and added plenty of new merit milestones (I used the new TalkImg links). You can find the changelog here.

Congrats to everyone! Especially @Rikafip (5k!), @icopress (5k!), @fillippone (13k!), @cygan (5555), @stompix (5k!), @pooya87 (9k!) & @RickDeckard (2222).

Pretty crazy milestones! You all deserve it! And of course keep it up. I want to see more of this in the future.  Tongue

If I missed any milestones you think are worth adding, please shoot me a PM or post here and I will try to add them within the next few days.
