Just to let you all know, I am planning on Selling 125,000 Ixcoins on the Bitcoin Exchange.

Not sure how that is going to effect price, Just wanted to warn you.

PS I'll sooner sell IXC on the Bitcoin exchange than Maria will buy 80,000 BTC at one pop LOL

Wow, I am amazed. There are still buyers for this scam? I thought it had died a long time ago.

Tiny cosmetic "feature" request:
If the user starts the app once a day, the syncing progress bar hoovers around 99% without any movement for a few minutes.
I think it would be better if the progress bar would always start at 0% and can therefor show some movement.
What I mean: the old (already downloaded) block count is represented by 0% and the up-to-date block count is 100%.
Now the casual user can see some progress bar movement, and all is well Wink

The problem with this is that the chain doesn't have an end.  It doesn't even have a current endpoint.  All it has is the dividing line between blocks that your node knows about, and blocks that it doesn't know about yet.  It seems like a trivial thing, but the misunderstanding can have serious consequences.

But yeah, the progress bar could be better.  But you can't make it too good, or it will confuse users.  There is even a trope about it.

Using the last known block height like you suggest seems like a good way to do it.

All academical discussions beside, the progress bar is shown right now, but stays at 99% for almost all users once a day for about a minute. It is only shown while downloading blocks and it is hidden when the current block count is reached. So it is effectively a static image. My "proposal" would make it usable. And the progress bar is not a scientific measurement device, it is only a visual feedback, so that the user can see that something is being download. In fact stating 99% all the time, the is indistinguishable  between some download is happening and nothing is being downloaded.

Again, all this aside-- where's the proof he's a pedo?

There's no positive proof thus far, it's just ambiguous writing and his insistence on Pattaya as the location, with people putting 2 and 2 together on their own. I try not to throw around the term "pedo", because it's a label that sticks really badly.

The pedo thing isn't the only accusation though, and the others have damning evidence, but you apparently don't see anything wrong with being a rape apologist either so I don't expect you to see that.

It seems that they gay people http://www.boyztown-pattaya.com/ call their men "boys" the same way "we" (I assume that you are not gay, which could be totally wrong) call our women "girl". But if you think calling a man "boy" is some evidence, one can only hope that the next time you call your favorite milf "girl" some swat team will jump through the window and arrests you for being a "pedo".</kidding>

@the_duke:
I know I should not ask, but could you please state what is your real agenda here? Reading all your posts I somehow doubt that it has to do anything with bitcoins.

This forum is about bitcoin. If I had any other agenda than bitcoin, don't you think I'd find some different forum to say what I have to say?
I own an ok-ish sum of bitcoins, I told my collegues, my friends and my family about bitcoin. But now I can't really defend it any more to them. It's kinda hard to keep saying it's all good and great with all the recent events.
I had great hopes for bitcoin and I was looking forward to the bitcoin meeting's results, news, spinoffs etc.
But I have been seriously dissapointed in Bruces actions the past month or so, the way he talks about it, the way he refuses to listen to the community and of course by all the recent stuff we got to learn about him.

My agenda? It's being pissed off about Bruce and what he did to bitcoin.

Well, I addressed you as you are one of more vocal members here.

Do I agree with everything from him? Of course not! Does it annoy me that he seems to be stubborn? Sure.
But as a matter of fact Bruce has done a lot for bitcoin. He helps to expand the user base. He actually does conferences and so on. You know, most bitcoin users are geeks and nerds. But to reach some critical masses we have to add average people to the mix. And Bruce is one them, at least in the not-a-geek sense.
Now do I care if he like cheap gay hookers? Why should I? I mean, maybe you are even worse. Would I care? Hell, no. There are government bodies that care if something is criminal. So why is it your business to call names on someone for being gay?

In the end we want bitcoins to be used by everyone, and that includes all types of people - very conservatives (like you?) and even extreme gay ones. It seems that people like you want to somehow ban people with a different world view from using bitcoins. Why is that? Long years of conservative conditioning? Religion? Some other fundamentalism?
446  Other / Meta / Re: Resigning as a moderator on: August 30, 2011, 11:49:26 AM
Due to all the scandalous shit that is happening and being permitted to happen on these forums I am resigning as a bitcoin forum moderator.

I no longer want to be affiliated with this forum or it's running operations.

I will retain my account, so anyone who want to can continue to keep in contact with me.

Nefario.
Understandable move. When the current trend continues bitcointalk.org will be a 4chan/b clone in a few weeks Sad

447  Other / Meta / Re: Are smear campains and character assasination OK on these forums? on: August 30, 2011, 09:30:29 AM
I think the whole thing got out of control.
We are seeing the same practice all over the world. Government bodies are arguing that to prevent child porn the whole internet must be filtered and censored. Of course this is not true, and is used only to establish a censoring machine through the back door. However, this works because once the stupiduninformed mass hears child porn, they vote for everything, even if this means total loss of privacy and establishing a police state.
Enter bitcoin - a currency invented to get rid of central authorities. At the moment a few forum members use the same tactic to drive their own agenda. Someone yells "child abuse", and in an instant a witch hunt starts. Apparently the government used scheme works on this very forum too. Previously I was under the impression that people that get into bitcoin are not as stupidclueless as the average mass. Either I was wrong or bitcoin has already reached the average mass.
The sad thing is, that by judging from the government success rate all over the world using this flawed argument, I think those elements could succeed here too. And even moderator level members have joint the witch hunt.
It feels like we are watching the self destruction of bitcoin: if you cant destroy it, join it and destroy it from within.
448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to make sure Bitcoin will never be banned by governments! on: August 30, 2011, 12:19:04 AM
I just made a major announcement for this, in a new topic

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=40137.0

Excellent work!

But does this mean, that every donated bitcoin is immediately sold on some exchange? That would mean if someone donates a large amount, it will crash the bitcoin price.
449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold campaign moves to accept Bitcoin: "More than ever, we need an alternative c on: August 29, 2011, 07:28:56 PM
But we already know there will never be more than 21 millions of BTC

yep... we know that....  it's not the destination that concerns me.. it's how we're getting there that is...

Seriously to avoid huge drops like this in the future you need to pick one of two ways.

1 - slow down the rate of inflation (print less bitcoins)  this has a very low (if zero) chance of happening.

2 - get more than 200,000 dollars into the system every 2-4 weeks

The better choice of course is 2 ... but without any central PR or organization to put the positive word out and address legal concerns it's not going to happen..

The inflation by new mined coins is constantly decreasing, because while we have a fixed supply rate we have an always greater total amount. A year ago there where less than 5 millions and a weekly supply rate of around 50000, resulting in 1% per week. These days we have more than 7 millions and still the same supply rate, so inflation is now down to 0.7% a week. So in effect inflation is ever decreasing.

And now look at this chart:
http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg360zvzlztgMzm1g10zm2g25

And now tell me, can you see any effect of this inflation? No? Me neither Wink

Having said that, I welcome any positive bitcoin PR

I got more a similar reply. They wrote they don't do virtual currencies at this time.
As they explicitly wrote "at this time" it sounds a little bit like they would if demand was high enough.
451  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pattaya on: August 29, 2011, 11:33:22 AM
most of us are more worried

There's still not a single tangible fact to back up those worries posted in this thread. I can only assume a lot of people aren't used to having to base their opinions on facts.

Anyone can claim anything. It's how you support your claims that makes a difference. Trolls cannot usually back up their claims.

It's not a matter of opinion that Pattaya has a poor reputation. Everyone in this country KNOWS it as a center for the sex industry and other illegal activities. If you don't know that then you plainly have no idea what you're talking about. The question is whether Bitcoins need to be making headlines holding a conference there. I'd vote no.

Like it or not, I think you are right.
So what can we do? We know Bruce wont listen to the community. But I think he will listen to the sponsors. So I say tell the tradehills, mtgoxes, memorydealers that Pattaya is a bad choice, I think they will listen and can eventually convince Bruce to move to a different city.
452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Taiwan Dollar exchange rates has BTC listing on: August 29, 2011, 09:43:18 AM
I just sent an email to www.xe.com asking them to list bitcoins.

currency@xe.com

I hope the rest of you will email them as well.
Done - good idea BTW
453  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pattaya on: August 28, 2011, 09:25:43 PM
Bruce knows Pattaya from first hand experience as he has been there. And it seems that Bruce knows all parts of town. A few seconds using google gave me http://thaiboys.net/guidebook/index.php?venue=thaiboy.net&id_tha=1104&last=6703 where Bruce writes about http://www.boyztown-pattaya.com/. So we can be sure that Bruce has a full picture of Pattaya.
And we know Bruce wants to go there. I am sure that Bruce also knows that some bad press can happen from the Pattaya-Bitcoin link. I mean he runs some media business, so he has to know this himself.

The question is can we trust him that he can keep apart his personal desire from what is good for bitcoin?
454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to make sure Bitcoin will never be banned by governments! on: August 28, 2011, 05:19:21 PM
To get this started,  I suggest we contact the the United Way and offer to make a $10,000 USD Donation via bitcoins
as soon as they list on their website their Bitcoin donation address.

Bruce Wagner of onlyonetv.com has agreed to hold the funds in escrow until we reach $10,000 worth of BTC.
MemoryDealers.com will donate $5,000 of the $10,000 so we only need the community to come up with the other half.
Once it is listed on the charity's website, Bruce will send out a press release to all the media contacts he has.
It should make major news headlines as well!

If you think this is a good idea,  please send your Bitcoins to: 1CEmUakCaR71BmELWJPg72QRYzUqEddNm6
Nice idea, and very generous from you.

Please let us know if you have any additional ideas on how to make this plan even better.
Maybe this would be better if it where $1000 every month, otherwise they could see this as a *onetime* special way to donate and remove it after they received it. And charities also loves getting regular donations. Albeit the number would not be that "press friendly" anymore.
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do we bring the value of BitCoins back up? on: August 28, 2011, 02:57:46 PM
Someone needs to convince Gavin that "the user experience is my lowest priority" is probably not the best approach.
go fix it yourself!

Sorry, impossible. I am not the official maintainer. And BTW, there is already a fix named "bitcoin-qt", but I doubt that Gavin will make it the official client anytime soon. It "only" has a much better user interface (same core), and that has as no priority for Gavin Sad
456  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do we bring the value of BitCoins back up? on: August 28, 2011, 02:44:07 PM
Wallet encryption is the killer app needed to allow us to convince a lot more people to get involved.

What makes things worse is that looking from an average user perspective, it seems that the development speed can only be measured in Bubnoffs. The official client looks like either some still completely unusable pre-alpha stuff, or something that has been abandoned by its developers a long time ago.

The client is full of technological complex things, yet the current developers are unable to add wallet encryption within a few month. For the end users that is - I don't care if someone has this in his private repository.

And think about this: adding wallet encryption is an easy task - if there would be an urgent need to add something more complex, it will probably take years. Maybe we need to search and reactivate Satoshi himself, because if the development process would have been so slow from the start, the first bitcoin software version would not have seen the light before maybe 2040.

Someone needs to convince Gavin that "the user experience is my lowest priority" is probably not the best approach.
457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Deposit Methods For TradeHill via BitInstant Partnership on: August 24, 2011, 12:04:16 PM
Is bitinstant a tradehill only service? I think I read some statements about tradehill being the exclusive partner, or something. At the moment there seems to be not even a reverse direction, tradehill->mtgox. I thought your idea is to become the instant money "web" between all exchanges - that would mean having all directions.

Second reason I am asking is because of Ruxum. I am on the Ruxum beta. I think Ruxum will rock the bitcoin world once it goes public. They already have 12 currencies and one can now *instantly* transfer funds between currencies. In other words they have an instant currency exchange built in. So it would probably an easy add for you, because having this currency exchange, one would only need to transfer USD there and can trade all other currencies too.
458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New MtGoxLive Features - dark theme + audio price change notifications on: August 23, 2011, 12:56:18 PM
That said, I have an, IMO important, feature request:
Mtgoxlive.com is very misleading using the default settings. While the real market depth looks more like in your screenshot, it scales both sides independently in the default view. That is very unlucky choice for the default view, because it suggests a very misleading market state, and a single graph where the scale changes in the middle is just counter intuitive. It would be best to add a dollar based single market axis and make this the default view. Why? Because this is how it is being viewed in reality anyway, and so one could see how much fiat is involved on both sides.

I've made a change related to this.  It will always plot both lines on the same BTC axis but now I show a more accurate USD axis on the right.  So you get a realistic market view at the same time as being able to eyeball dollar amounts.

Excellent work! Very much appreciated! I really like this solution, clean easy and intuitive.
Thank you!

BitcoinStarter.com will entertain any kind of project even smaller ones - I agree elementary usability features would be very helpful to the community to have.  Smiley
Any time frame on when this will be ready?
Will it hold the pledged bitcoins in escrow?

Earliest this weekend ( this is my goal at least! ) and latest at the end of this month. The pledged Bitcoins will be held in escrow and released if project is successful. If not successful all Bitcoins are returned to their perspective pledgers.

Good question!

Any updates on the project yet? Yes, I know I am impatiently Smiley
