What do I do to vote?  Linux
1642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 25, 2014, 08:26:28 AM

Actually coming from Unix/Linux I don't mind command line applications, but at least the documentation should be correct and the script posted in the Windows tutorial does NOT work.

Doing everything by hand (like in the Linux tutorial) works, so thanks for your help.

Actually, all that batch file does is open the terminals with the arguments so that's probably not it. I've had the same issue (daemon closes instantly, wallet complains that it can't connect to daemon) and it turned out to be corrupted blockchain data (checked the logs). I fixed it by deleting the blockchain and resyncing.

I'd like to know if the Windows .bat script does/doesn't work for others, though. It's fine for me on 7.

I would give input but I not use the .bat script.  Did everything from command line like I explained to crowning.  I will test the .bat script and let know the outcome.

Do not start daemon/wallet on different port.

Reboot computer.  Start bitmonerod from command line.  Let sync. "important to let finish syncing"  start wallet from command line and type start_mining from within wallet.

I know it more complicated than other coin for now.  Devs are working on GUI to make simple and easy from Windows.  It's new coin working out issues like any other.  It is different from other coins.  Issues will be resolved in short time.  Give try and inform on status.  Happy mining Smiley

Edit:

After bitmonerod sync, type "save" in window to write blockchain to hard drive.  When closing bitmonerod type exit in window to write latest block information to hard drive.  Does not write autmatically.  It is important to wait until bitmonerod sync before start mining.  You will see message like:

You are now synchronized with the network. You may now start simplewallet.

Please note, that the blockchain will be saved only after you quit the daemon wi
th "exit" command or if you use "save" command.
Otherwise, you will possibly need to synchronize the blockchain again.

Then ready to mine.  Let know if this fixes issue.

So you have working?  If so thats good.  I am glad to help.  Good luck mining! Smiley

Windows tutorial will be changed to make easier to understand and be successful mining.

Edit:

Devs are working on Windows GUI that will make mining easier for Windows users that don't have command line experience.  This should be available soon but I cannot give definite time frame.  Mac GUI should be released shortly after.  Things are happening and updates will be forthcoming.  Thanks for your interest in Monero.  Many people are working hard to bring this coin to everyone and make strong for the future.

later integrate GHOST if problems surrounding centralization arise.  It's not the end of the world.

GHOST does not address centralization, in fact it may make centralization worse. That said, having essentially instant transactions is at least a really important and relevant differentiator that might be worth a try, if we have the talent and resources on this team to implement it.

If not, then a new coin with instant transactions and privacy (and a good launch...) could be a real winner.

It's good that you are on the team.  You have much to offer future of coin or any coin.  Smiley

ninja launch with new algo

meh...

Coin was launched with an Ann.  Anyone had opportunity.  Maybe somewhat ninja but still fair launch consider other coin launches.

I understand your meaning but launch was a fair as any coin.

Not just new algo, different protocol.  CryptoNote protocol.  Comparison to Apple/Microsoft =  Bitcoin protocol/CryptoNotes protocol.

https://cryptonote.org/

  • Untraceable Payments
  • Unlinkable transactions
  • Double-spending proof
  • Blockchain analysis resistance
  • Egalitarian proof of work
  • Adaptive parameters

CryptoNotes protocol provides a much more anonymous cryptocurrency than the BitCoin protocol.

Most coins are just clones of BitCoin or it's derivatives.  Monero is moving forward towards more anonymity using the CryptoNotes protocol and is differentiating itself from the plethora of new coins by using the CryptoNotes protocol.  Will it be successful?  We will have to wait and see.  One thing is certain.  Monero is breaking new ground by bringing a new coin using a different protocol to the cryptocurrency world.  Only time will tell how successful Monero will be but everyone benefits from choices.  Bringing a new coin using a different protocol than the BitCoin protocol is a good thing for the cryptocommunity.  It's not just another coin with another color for it's name.  It's a new coin based on a different protocol entirely.

That is poor output for the 4930K, I am guessing because you are on windows and not using all threads. I have 3930K on Linux and get 18.5 H/s. With the 4930K you should be getting 19.3 H/s

Yeah, I am on Windows 8.1 and using 12 threads :S

Mother of linux T_T

Yeah, Linux is quite a bit faster. But it's easy to mine using it if you follow the instructions in the beginning of the thread Smiley

This is my personal rig which I game on a lot, not worth the hassle in my case to dual boot for the extra hash.

Really like this coin, good job and cheers!

Yes coin is good.  Based on CryptoNote protocol.  Different from bitcoin and all bitcoin clones.  Too many bitcoin clones so this is good direction for coin diversity like Microsoft / Apple is good comparison.

"Error: wallet failed to connect to daemon (http://localhost:18081). Daemon either is not started or passed wrong port.
Please, make sure that daemon is running or restart the wallet with correct daemon address."

Still get this error.

The daemon is running,  synced with the network, and is according to its own log listening on its default port (log:  "Core rpc server initialized OK on port: 18081").

There's no local firewall, and I also started the daemon and wallet with a different port number just to make sure no one else uses this port.

A telnet to localhost on port 18081 works, so someone is listening.

The Windows build seems kinda buggy...

Do not start daemon/wallet on different port.

Reboot computer.  Start bitmonerod from command line.  Let sync. "important to let finish syncing"  start wallet from command line and type start_mining from within wallet.

Not work the wallet.
Coin is dead?

Hashcoin is not dead....Im working as fast as I can to fix this...You trolling this thread and posting the coin is dead after I clearly tell you that I am working on it is not helping anyone...Not sure yet I am trying to decide which plan of attack would be the best way to fix it.

You call everyone troll.  You troll with your dead coin.  Go away.  Take dead coin with.  If you can not handle criticize for truth then you just ignorant.  Why people waste time with worthless coin?  Follow you to nowhere.  You rude and not professional.  Need grow up and be real man not boy.  Bye bye

You not know how to fix in beginning to stop instamine and not able fix now.  You not dev at all.  Just cloner.  Fact.

There was no instamine. You make it look like something tragic happened with the coin when it is just that you are upset that you missed on the recent 700% increase. The price is still pretty low. Its a good idea to get yourself some hashcoin.

Yes instamine.  Fact.  Coin dead and worthless.  Fact
1650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 25, 2014, 04:01:55 AM
Getting 8.5 hash rate per thread (total 12 threads) is that good?

That sounds extremely high to me. What output do you get from show_hr?

Hexacore i7 4930k

or am I getting 8.5ish in total ?

That is total. Not bad.  Should find blocks.
1651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 25, 2014, 03:35:27 AM
I can't seem to be able to paste the address into the daemon to start mining.

Is there a way to do this without entering the address manually? :S

You can start the mining from the wallet without needing to type your address

Yes.  Just "start_mining" from wallet after bitmonerod sync and wallet is running.

Wallet:
Error: refresh failed: daemon is busy. Please try later. Blocks received: 0

bitmonerod:

set_log 1 active and it downloading blocks, how long do I have to wait to refresh and/or start mining?

You must wait until sync finish.  You will get message in bitmonerod:

You are now synchronized with the network. You may now start simplewallet.

Please note, that the blockchain will be saved only after you quit the daemon wi
th "exit" command or if you use "save" command.
Otherwise, you will possibly need to synchronize the blockchain again.

Then you start wallet and mining.

Remember to type save in bitmonerod after sync to write blockchain to hard drive and use exit in bitmonerod when closing to save blockchain on hard drive.  It does not write to hard drive automatic.

That said, you yourself have previously outlined why relaunches and further clones fail. I'd rather stick with this one and fix it.

Except that this is a relaunch and clone already. It's starting with two strikes against it on that basis alone. Add the other issues I outlined, and it is very questionable whether it can succeed, unless of course its intended goal is not to succeed on its own, but to poison the well against other bytecoin clones. Who would have the incentive to do that? Follow the money.

It was gaining on BCN in diff within a relatively short time, so it seems it was on target (currently 280k = 560k in BCN). Will that change with a relaunch of a relaunch that has a website, GUI, and Mac binaries? Only one way to find out: someone get on it. It'd be especially interesting if this new coin was late enough that taco already had a GUI for MRO. I don't know how that would go, but I have a guess.

What need help with?  I know webpage but limited with other programming skills
1655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - an anonymous coin based on CryptoNote technology on: April 24, 2014, 09:11:07 PM
blockchain.bin will not be written unless "save" is used in bitmonerod.  Save after synching and before exit.
"exit" should suffice, since exit automatically starts a "save" before it exists.
At least this is the way it works with BCN.

Yes that.  Not meaning to spread confusion.
1656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - an anonymous coin based on CryptoNote technology on: April 24, 2014, 09:06:50 PM
Unfortunately there's no blockchain.bin (searched the complete drive), but maybe I have to wait here also.
Hidden folder Smiley
Windows?

Hidden folders are visible...for now I'll just wait.

If nothing happens till tomorrow I'll build the Linux wallet.

user/appdata/bitmonero

blockchain.bin will not be written unless "save" is used in bitmonerod.  Save after synching and before exit.
1657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - an anonymous coin based on CryptoNote technology on: April 24, 2014, 09:03:31 PM
~/.bitmonero/ on Linux. Probably %APPDATA/bitmonero on Windows? Name is blockchain.bin

Thanks for the sync-info.

Unfortunately there's no blockchain.bin (searched the complete drive), but maybe I have to wait here also.

You have to type save then enter in bitmonerod before it is written to hard drive

Edit:

must use "save" in bitmonerod before exit or synch from last save will not be written to har drive

why in gods name are you posting ANN topics in main ?

there is no conceivable way in hell you didn't know better.

if you do this ? i'm out .
The moderator was contacted (theymos, I think) to move the thread but did not act. Deleting it was the first option but someone have reply before it was possible

Yes this thread need moved to ANN section.  Why not mod move?
1660  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - an anonymous coin based on CryptoNote technology on: April 24, 2014, 08:08:27 PM
been mining for hrs with 4h and on other comp at 2h.... nothing found. yet 150k coins out out already. well that was yesterday. more now that more blocks are found...

whats the point to keep mining this. if i will find 15 coins in 24 hrs while others have in tens of thousands. This was suppose to be a fork of bytecoin to fix their problems...

but if i cant mine this. few days from lunch , how will this be appealing later?

also there must be an enhances miner or a private mining pool mining this. there no way 150k coin are mined in 5 days but i can't mine any with 2-4 H

Theres a lot of miners. its not like there are only a handful of miners.. I went all weekend and didn't find a block on hashrate 11.xx.  You people are going nuts over some of this stuff.  Its like a scrypt release if your GPU mining solo and there is high demand guess what, you don't get blocks!  Happens to me all the time.  Luckily with this it can be mined in the background and even a low hashrate should net a few blocks by the end of the week

its not about me not mining a block. its about being 5 days late and not mining anything. its about me having a normal computer chip with 6 threads and not being able to mine anything 5 day later. while few people own 150k+ coins already.

this coin was forket because it was too late to mine Byte coin and %80 already were mined in bytecoin. this coin was forket to give people a new chance to use cryptonotes. it was suppose to be fair.

Well guess what, it is not.

disclaimer: i currently own 0 bytecoin, have not tried to mine byte coin due to all the coins being mined already.

You must make sure blockchain is synced before start mining.  If not then miner just sits.

You should see :

You are now synchronized with the network. You may now start simplewallet.

Please note, that the blockchain will be saved only after you quit the daemon wi
th "exit" command or if you use "save" command.
Otherwise, you will possibly need to synchronize the blockchain again.

Then something

2014-Apr-24 13:05:02.847260 [P2P3][107.158.233.98:50217 INC] SYNCHRONIZED OK

Then start mining.  Blockchain needs to synched
