141  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: January 20, 2022, 07:51:42 PM
Michael Saylor, in a conversation with Bloomberg, once again confirmed that he is not going to change his strategy for buying and holding bitcoin, and the price reduction by 40% of his ATH is not a cause for concern for him, but rather a consolation, given the current increase in inflation.
What, in my opinion, is a great motivation for those who are constantly worried about the current decline in the value of bitcoin, especially on the example of a company whose investments in bitcoin have already exceeded the capitalization of MicroStrategy itself.

Question for @fillippone

When I buy MicroStrategy stock for the USD price a bitcoin is worth, how many bitcoins do I indirectly own?

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MSTR
- Market Cap: $5.252B (nasdaq closed)
- Bitcoin price: $41700
- As of 12/29/21 we #hodl ~124,391 bitcoins

$5,250,000,000 / 124,391 = $42205 per bitcoin. So you currently pay a ˜$500 premium, for the company?

At the end of the 50BTC block subsidy era, there was 50% of Bitcoin left to be mined.

At the end of today’s 6.25BTC block subsidy era, there will be 6.25% of Bitcoin left to be mined.

And on and on.

(additionally cool, in this 6.25 era, 6.25% of the total will be mined)

Giggling a bit that because the FED raising interest rates with a few basis points on their filthy fiat, the dollar value of Bitcoin goes down.

Why does the FED raise interest rates? Inflation, massive inflation. Do you really think the dollar is now all of the sudden a store of value again? Of course not, bitcoin is. Raising interest rates hurts those having debts, number one being your government. Interest would never be raised unless red alert.

This is the time to buy bitcoin, not sell.

Why bitcoin is worse than a Madoff-style Ponzi scheme
A Ponzi scheme is a zero-sum enterprise. But bitcoin is a negative-sum phenomenon that you can’t even pursue a claim against, argues Robert McCauley.

The most important advantage in them is hard to see at first:  Secure XPRV (seed, XPUB etc) generation.  Hardware wallets are the ONLY foolproof way to make a bitcoin seed.  So far there is no other way that is safe, that also is not prohibitively difficult/risky.

I get your point and agree. But what if the hardware wallet has a whole bunch of predefined seeds, and one day are all swiped empty? What if the seed generation turns out to be not truly random?

(using an extended passphrase on top of the seed mostly solves this, and/or multisig)

Printing the BIP-39 words and draw them from a hat can't be messed with and is rather fool proof.

I have another very hard location riddle.

the experts here on the forum can now probably determine the exact location by the shadow the chicken casts Smiley

It appears to be somewhere in China as evidenced by the fact it shows up on a Chinese journal.

Probably a Chinese stock image . Grin

Definitely a cock image.
