The reality (IMO at least) is that neither is good enough for the very long term. We will eventually see the demise of both as there is further problems with PoW (at least as implemented in BTC and derivative coins as well, obviously) as difficulty and rewards fall below profitability. I don't really consider PoS as a better means of securing the blockchain than PoW - just a faster and less biased one. Certainly, you can argue that PoS still favors the largest wallet holders - but that still prevents a large part of the incentive for attempting attacks.
Hey, you described the weakness of PoW and why PoS is more secure. However, first you said you expect the demise of both PoS and PoW. What weakness do you see in PoS? The problem of multiple forks all being supported? Actually, it appears we'll get to see this play out in realtime with WC - as Mintpal is reporting that they've had a successful doublespend attack (remember those guys saying they controlled 51% of the coins... guess they did). The problem I see with PoS is simply the loss of confidence in the PoS model itself. There is nothing IMO that is inherently less secure about it vs. PoW... but there is also nothing that makes it inherently more secure either. Definitely the multi-fork possibility is dangerous - more to the image of PoS securing the blockchain than in and of itself - but I think it more will come down to a poorly distributed coin, with dubious membership... And that is why we must watch WC and learn for what comes next. I think it will improve BC's standing personally - although it will likely kill all the lesser clone coins coming up right now... I mean comparitively WC is a giant to orange, or blue, or whatever color is launching next week. So if it was first a scam, and then second a fraud-catalyst... that can't look good for coins with even less market cap and even worse distribution models. Time will only tell how bad it might be however - for any of us. If i am not mistaken, rat4 already has a new implementation of POS, and it is currently being tested on testnet Interesting. How does it work? Now maybe there will be three POS models  rat4 posted a few pages back. |

For as much as people here were concerned about the clone coins taking attention from BC, the events with WC if anything, only strengthens the case for BC. Why take a risk on (possibly cheap) clones that could go up in flames?

But from looking at your past history it seems you think it would be relatively easy to pull of a 51% attack on a PoS coin. If that's the case why not try an intelligent discussion? |

And in case you have already used the technical information hidden in the sentences then you should scrap that sentence, all information just once. -Wtf is this reference to myspace doing in a PR doc??? -The first word in a blackcoin PR document should be Blackcoin and not Bitcoin. -The backbone schematics of the coin are completely missing, amount of coins, how PoW was distributed, the block size and halving time etc etc. If you want i'd like to help and just rewrite the document the way i see it and then you can comment on mine. I'd just do it to be be constructive after critisism. I don't usually agree with you, but I do in this case. I didn't comment about this press release before because I don't have any experience in PR and so can't really help to make it better, but I agree the points made here. There's no need to bash bitcoin in a PR about blackcoin - I suspect that wouldn't be received well. Just focus on blackcoin and its advantages, especially that it doesn't need miners in order to secure its blockchain and so is energy efficient. |

No that's not the same rat4. The problem that hit WC is that their 'dev' didn't set their PoS setting correctly, so for a few hours their entire blockchain wasn't secured by either PoW or PoS. Doesn't apply to bc at all. |

short OT: does anyone have an idea why someone is buying up all AUR on mintpal?
The volume is only 17 BTC...either someone with btc doesn't know what they're doing or a pump's under way. yeah but for what reason? you buy up everything and then? no ones selling or buying besides that one person  that's not how it works, you buy up the wall, and then when the pumpers decide they dump all the coins on the higher bidders that were surfing up the wave i know. but it surprsied me that they chose a coin that hasn't been traded for weeks and now pump it that quick. Most won't even have the time to notice what's going on before they remember that they got AUR somewhere or the coin exists anyways, enough OT methinks can someone find the pumper so that we can put him on BC hehe Lol. Problem is, he'd need a lot more than 17 BTC to move BC's market |

Start the buying and hope that people looking for a quick profit start buying as well. Then you dump. Or it could just have been someone who thought AUR was a decent medium term investment and wanted something like 10 btc of it and just went about getting that 10btc in a naive way. Whatever the reason they've sure started some panic buying. I'm staying far away from that. |
