1261  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The MAX_BLOCK_SIZE fork on: February 01, 2013, 05:51:13 PM
This seems like a very worrisome problem.
When you say "this" do you mean:

1) MAX_BLOCK_SIZE problem
2) problem with prevalence of white lies and other errors of omission in the Bitcoin milieu

?

Thanks.

OK, looks like the change to nginx helped greatly. Anytime there is a lag or hesitation it happens with the TCP/IP connection in the ESTABLISHED state. I've also one seen "504 Gateway Timeout" error from the web server after one of the more complex queries (Show new replies to your posts). The keep-alives are also much longer.

I'm going to assume that the previous web server was somehow misconfigured by a combination of short keep-alives and shallow listen queue.

None

None, but I have to look at that :-)
Thank you for your reply. Your mention of "trusted account" with an exchange (implied MtGox) made me think about their history of bitomat acquisition together with the bank contacts in Poland.
1264  Economy / Securities / Re: [PicoStocks] 100TH/s bitcoin mine [100th] on: February 01, 2013, 05:56:13 AM
Waiting for a dev board so I can write the cgminer driver for you Smiley

Edit: of course, contact me if you want any suggestions about the MCU design (not doing the design, just optimal details of it's design)
Dude, bitfury is the lead designer at their shop. If I know anything about the people of bitfuty's calibre I'll say that he will have driver's core already debugged on the simulator before the tapeout. This really isn't looking like another seat-of-the-pants outfit.

Bitfury had been working on the Bitcoin ASIC since early last year, and on the processes available through Europractice since August 17 of last year. I though he was Russian, Ukrainian or Bielorussian and I pointed it to him that he has that option available:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=91173.msg1105513#msg1105513

I didn't know that he's Polish or had choosen to work through a Polish scientific establishment. Through Europractice he should have no problem accessing the latest 40nm and 28nm processes at deep discount.
1265  Economy / Securities / Re: [PicoStocks] 100TH/s bitcoin mine [100th] on: February 01, 2013, 02:14:04 AM
1. We work on a "trusted account" :-)
A) What is your relation with former bitomat.pl and its former operator Bartlomiej Szabat?

Edit:

B) What is your relation (if any) with Enterpoint and its recently announced 100THash Goliath project?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=130386.0

Thanks.

Lets see if my reply with imageshack link works. Well, it appears to be working for now. Both fonts are quite readable on my end. The forum software prepends some proxy by anonymouse; but when I save and compare the images they are identical.

How (and why) is this different from the invoice/payment/receipt proposed by Gavin?

1268  Other / Meta / Re: Forum lagging hard on: January 31, 2013, 07:19:16 PM
What kind of error this could be? All the SQL-related errors that I've ever seen always ended up with a database timeout page or something equivalent.

Here the lag is at the TCP/IP level: I see half-opened connections in the SYN_SENT state. So it does look like misconfigured firewall or router. I don't even get the blank HTML page which happens with badly misconfigured or crashing web servers.

Any better ideas?
1269  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: January 30, 2013, 10:09:59 PM
Radio Shack and Fry's don't carry a decent selection of MOSFETs or inductors, and even if they did sending them to China would be like shipping coals to Newcastle - it's one of the few places where you can actually walk in and buy these kinds of parts.
Thank you for helping re-rail this thread. Of course my suggestion of RadioShack was nearly idiotic. But maybe it is a seed of some worthwhile discussion how to negotiate the terms of sale.
I'll bet you strippers to nerds or fine gourmet meals to pots of ramen that you're all currently ignoring the people who are actually making ASICs and who will dominate the ASIC market for years no questions asked simply because they can't be bothered to come to this forum and talk to you at all. I know this because experience teaches: it's what you did re MPEx a year/eternity ago.
It is a worthwhile reminder: ignoring people in such a rapidly developing filed as Bitcoin is inherently risky. Cheerleaders are more pleasant to listen, but sceptics and outright detractors may be better informed.
Wow!!!

You are all getting F'ed in the A.

LOL
But then we may have to listen to an occasional outburst of coprolalia.
(surely there must be somebody of 'statue' in NY?).
There is, though she doesn't get out much anymore.
http://www.statueoflibertytickets.com/images/lede-nav/statue-of-liberty.jpg
Or a diss over a typo of statue vs. stature.

So how about semi-relevant link to Youtube:

Bad Businessman  (Squirrel Nut Zippers)

There's a man going around in the town
Spreading lies, he's the bad businessman
Does his business while he can
He just does his business bad

He's a clown, going to get bounced around
If he don't keep his business underground
He's a player and every time he deals a round
It's just a bad hand, what a bad man

Beware of what he sells
Surely go straight to Hell
'Taint no bottom in that wishing well
Bad businessman

He's a clown, going get bounced around

He's a player and every time he deals a round

1270  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: January 30, 2013, 04:02:27 AM
I have no idea of what you are trying to say or how anything you are saying pertains to a pre-order of a product. I don't care about what nerd pet names people came up with for past projects. This is about the technology, products and order process now.

What I see on this forum are people that have pre-ordered and are trying to convince themselves it was a good idea. If they see something they don't like or makes them uncomfortable they resort to personal attacks including the vendors representatives.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
I can explain myself better: I realize that you are a professional relational database administrator, a kind of guy that always wears his pants with both belt and suspenders. The most daringest exploit it your business career was where you put the log files on the ramdisk and run "UPDATE TABLE" without "WHERE" clause and then kept doing "TRUNCATE LOG WITH NO_LOG" to avoid overfilling the ramdisk.

I'm not saying that it is anything wrong with the above.

But the humanity needs two kinds of mariners: (1) those who sail the seven seas and (2) ferry operators. You are the second kind. BitSyncom asked for orders from the first kind. Your areas of expertise don't overlap in any meaningful way.

I hope I'm clearer now.
1271  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: January 30, 2013, 03:23:17 AM
All i know is that sending your money to anyone without solid proof they have a product is silly.
I kinda agree with this sentiment. But why whine? Call BitSyncom, ask what MOSFETs and inductors he needs, raid the nearest RadioShack and Fry's and negotiate with him an exchange of components for finished product. If needed fly them himself to China in carry-in luggage. Arrange to get completed Avalons smuggled out of China through Vietnam or Mongolia. Even if you can't do any of the above, discuss the scheme with other users of this forum. Maybe someone will do it?

Otherwise you run the risk that your highest point of involvement in the Bitcoin experiment will be "I hit the Ignore button on one college educated know it all with not a single callus on his hands because he was disrespectfull to the new user with a reasonable post". Even your own grandchildren will snicker at that, they will prefer to listen to the stories of an antique wood dealer.

But please don't whine.
1272  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: January 30, 2013, 01:56:59 AM
Let me start by saying I am a total newb when it comes to Bitcoin and this website. I am not a newb when it comes to running a business. My entire reason for even giving a shit about Bitcoin is the ASIC technology. I don't gamble, want items secretly in the mail, need to tip whores etc.
Maybe you aren't a newbie in the business, but you've still remained remarkably naive.

Bitcoin is a new frontier; very much like petroleum exctraction was some time ago. Go rewatch Dallas or Dynasty on fast forward, but this time with understanding of the business undercurrent in those shows. At least in Bitcoinia nobody is kidnaping people's children, setting factories on fire, etc.

Really, learn some history. eldentyrell named his FPGA bitcoin operation "Tricone mining". Actually go to the library and research the conditions which oil drillers had to accept to lease tricone driling bits. Yes, lease and not buy.

Most of you calling themselves businessmen or customers are just whiners, wannabes or effete mamma-boys. Do you really think that you have it hard?

Are you sure that picobits.com and picostocks.com are affiliated ? Because if thats true i'm gonna go get some popcorn.
Thank you very much for catching my typing mistake. I'm going to fix my previous message.
1274  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I have some money. Which ASIC should I order? on: January 29, 2013, 09:53:24 PM
Somebody with user id "tytus" had just kinda-sorta announced a Bitcoin-related ASIC project in a reply to me. The business is called picobits.com http://www.picostocks.com and is located in Poland and Marshall Islands.

I wrote many times already that SHA-2 is essentially self-testing and one of the cheapest possible to test. Anyone claiming otherwise is incompetent or deceiving.

"Cheap" does not mean it is free. You have to plan the test in the project and order it. How else can You do a "self-test" on few thousand chips from 6 engineering run wafers?

I need to quote the signature too because it looks like the author is going to solicit money himself. It may be worth to keep eye on his business.

Correct. We are also working on an ASIC chip.

Edit: corrected the stupid typo in the business name at the top.

Edit2: preserving the contact info from their web page.

1275  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon ASIC] Batch #2 pre-Sale Thread on: January 29, 2013, 08:56:23 PM
The hashing chips have yield problems (depending on the optimization of the density even 50% of chips can be bad). If You assemble a board with bad chips the whole board is bad (unless the board is designed for redundancy). On the other hand testing each chip separately is very expensive and time consuming (without special equipment that allows on wafer testing).
The only proof for the batch1 machines to be functional is a 50% increase of the hashing power.

1276  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon is (unfortunately) a scam. Here is why. on: January 29, 2013, 04:35:05 PM
People that know their stuff better than i do thinks that the only pratical use for mosfets in the Avalon is to build a custom PSU. Something that doesn't make any sense. You have problems building the Avalon, you don't need to get things worse house-producing a PSU.
It is "custom VRM" not "custom PSU". Technically it is almost the same thing, but PSU produces 12V,5V & 3.3V, and VRM further reduces it down to 1.somethingV. Nothing out of ordinary.
1277  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: January 28, 2013, 09:39:40 PM
I've never received anything from Erik for this thread.  He's tipped me in the past for some private analysis he asked me to do, but nothing for this thread.  I forget what the imgur account cost, but it's probably not covered by the tips I've received from readers of this thread.

I started posting because I thought it was cool how you could find out SD's bottom line from the publicly available blockchain.  I don't really know why I keep posting.  Partly it's a silly obsession, and partly people seem to appreciate it.  It's certainly not a good use of my time.

I don't think I can move the thread, but wouldn't have any objection to it being moved.  It does belong in the gambling section, I agree.

Edit: I just tried to find out who moderates this section, but don't see anyone listed.  Who should I contact about getting the thread moved to 'gambling'?
Obligatory conspiracy mode: If you didn't get any money directly from Erik then etotheipi simply robbed you from your rightfully gained income. Ask him for a proof that he didn't get any money from Erik! etotheipi will be probably ashamed to admit that he neglected to squeeze any funds from Erik or at least have a cross-promotion deal with him regarding Armory.

Boring mode: I have nothing against your posts. The thread just drifted quite far. The original posts had some data about what percentage of transactions and what percentage of blockchain space is caused by Satoshi Dice. Now it is more about the financial aspect.

etotheipi can move this thread: there should be "move topic" and "lock topic" available to him. It just remains to choose which area to move to.
1278  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: January 28, 2013, 08:20:35 PM
I just want to thank you for doing these stats daily  Cheesy

You're welcome.  There's a link in my signature for that...  Wink
Obligatory (on bitcointalk) conspiracy theory:

So how much did you (doglus & ethoteipi) managed to squeeze out of Erik Voorhees for keeping this topic on the first page of the Development and Technical Discussion forum?

Is he at least covering your paid account at imgur?

Or are you guys doing just for the cachet and a status symbol?

Without the conspiracy theory:

Can you guys move this thread to the Economy->Marketplace->Gambling where it belongs?
1279  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can we use Bitcoin client to on: January 28, 2013, 07:37:47 PM
Wow, communication is hard.

Right now this topic is right above the "Let's Embrace BTC Trusted Timestamping" topic on this forum.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=139443.0

They are essentially about the same thing, but using different words.
And the previous topic seems to converge to the conclusion that there's no demand.

So which one is true:

1) reading with comprehension is hard
2) communicating ideas is hard
3) ydenys is a sockpuppet of AsymmetricInformation

I really don't know what to think.
1280  Other / Meta / Re: New subforums for alternative clients on: January 28, 2013, 06:08:44 PM
I think hanging them off of "Development & Technical Discussion" is a mistake. They should hang off of "Technical Support". Majority of posts there are mundane things that have relatively little to do with development of Bitcoin ecosystem.

To be honest I don't know how to solve it. Seems like "Technical Support" has some negative stigma attached, or maybe an answered post in "Development & Technical Discussion" became a sort of status symbol, or maybe both.

I believe etotheipi tried to have two Armory threads: one for significant announcements and one for the rest of post. Is there a way to generalize that idea to a whole slew of alternative clients and subforums?

How to solve this dilution problem that is creeping in?
