1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Dash Incubator: Start earning bounties for developing Dapps on Dash Platform on: June 21, 2021, 05:30:30 AM
I think this topic is more suited for the Service Discussion (Altcoins) board? It's like the forum's Project Development board but dedicated for Altcoins.

I am not a developer but I'm constantly searching for blockchain based apps that I find worth it to use and preferably rewarding as well.

I love the Jembe app, I hope they get that going for release when Platform is fully launched?  Twitter without censorship so cool!
Can you tell me more about this app (or just drop a link)? I know of a twitter-like platform that allows tips in BCH but I find it too centralized and censored as well.

It's on testnet and it's like twitter.  They named it Jemba after the drum, which can also be spelled djemba:

A djembe or jembe (/ˈdʒɛmbeɪ/ JEM-bay; from Malinke jembe [dʲẽbe][1]) is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose. In the Bambara language, "djé" is the verb for "gather" and "bé" translates as "peace."[2]

Not sure if it's back up and running as things keep moving in testnet Cheesy

I'm also hopeful someone will make an auction site app on platform, VPN/tor tunnel would be cool too.  Can a decentralized exchange be built on platform?

@Nthenight tells me I should be more active in this forum, I left it 5 years or more ago because of manipulation of this thread by mods (it was our only source of history, and they deleted a whole bunch of it to create a new narrative) and because of people like the dufus that posted above this.  But OK, I'll try coming back.

BTW Dash is one of the only coins that is NOT a shit coin.  In fact, the most important thing about Dash is that development is NOT funded by any 3rd party like all other cryptos, but rather funded by the structure of the network rewards and voted on how to allocate those funds via vote which is influenced by the community at large.  Anyone can participate.  Of course it goes much deeper than that.

If you are interested in Dash, you should follow the Dash Community at Medium articles

Hi everyone.  Just popping in to say, if you have updated your masternodes, please double check them.  There are still several running the old protocol (70208) and it needs to be 70210.  Make sure you updated sentinel (cd into sentinel folder and issue git pull)  Also we are on version 12.3.2 so if you're behind, please update Smiley  Don't want to see anyone not get paid!

I'm still hoping Dash will get involved in the TV series "Hard Fork" but the current proposal isn't coming through.  Anyway, if you haven't voted yet, you got 11 hours Smiley  And if you want to give a gamble, vote for the Hard Fork TV series here: https://www.dashcentral.org/p/DASHToSponsor-PremiereBlockchainSeries

It'd get Dash a lot of mainstream attention if they can get the series sold.

Can someone tell me what the average price is of a Dash transaction ?

I remember sending some last year for what I thought was a penny but just recently sent some from a ledger and it was 11 cents. Not that 11 cents is alot its just more than I thought it should be

Were you using the latest wallet?  0.12.2.2 makes it 0.00001 of a Dash which should be 1.1 cent?  If you're not using a core wallet, or an updated wallet, that might be the problem Smiley
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 13, 2017, 10:58:29 PM
I still find it difficult for new users to exchange Fiat -> Dash.        Level entry users are using Coinbase.   The next level up from there is GDAX and Gemini.    From there we have the other crypto exchanges.    The users that really want dash that I talk to are not experienced enough to get it and I feel it is really frustrating.

It was hard enough for these users to figure out how to get BTC/LTC/ETH.    With the funds, team, market cap.  I don't see why we are not pushing these exchanges to add Dash?   Maybe we are,  not sure.   Just saying my frustration and opinion.

Yes, I do understand there are other ways of getting funds in for Dash but they are outside the main pipe and that is a problem.   If I knew of a way to push these exchanges I would create a proposal but sadly, I don't.

I would assume others feel similar and what I have not heard is how will "grandma" get fiat into Dash with Evolution.

This is exactly why Dash isn't doing as well as Litecoin.  It's a frustration we all share.  For onboarding, Kraken may be the best choice for simplicity, though I use coinbase too because it's easy for me, and I get direct deposit into my bank acciount, and they're in California like me.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: December 02, 2017, 10:06:03 AM
It's extremely difficult to find a system that can have very low to no fees and that isn't simultaneously open to abuse by a script-kiddie... unless that system doesn't actually store a ledger but rather something like ...balances which shift.

Actually even then you can spam it by creating a lot of balance addresses that would require XX bytes to store, just by sending a no-fee tx of 1 satoshi / duff to a veeeery long list of random addresses. So, I really can't think of how you can make a promise of zero to very low fees and infinite scaling when you are also opening yourself to an attack vector.

But then again, I'm not the coder here.

The difference is our nodes are paid well to run high end equipment and have big pipes to the internet.  That is why an attacker would be wasting his time and money, as it will have no effect.  The transactions would merely be absorbed.  The only reason a block size needs to be protected is when you have volunteer nodes that will drop away if it becomes too costly to run them.  Currently, most Bitcoin nodes are not normal people but big businesses hoping their investment in Bitcoin will pay off when they get to run those LN networks, because someone has to do it, they're centralized.  I'm sure the fees will become profitable, and in order to make these separate "networks" (actually holdings by an escrow agent) transact with each other, you will need them to act exactly the way Banks act today, and thus Bitcoin simply becomes an asset class for just another mechanism in the Banking / Wall Street world.  Nothing to see here, move along.  nothing changed, Bitcoin was absorbed into the Borg.  Thank God for Dash.

Hi guys, I have 300 idle dash. I know this is too little for a masternode but is there any 100% secure and trustless way to use some masternode-management service?

Unfortunately not yet.  This feature should be a reality, I believe by next summer if all goes well.  My sister is also waiting for this feature as she isn't part of this community and is nervous about leaving her Dash with a trusted MN service.  But hang in there, it's coming and if you can do this, the interest may very well one day pay for your monthly expenses!  Just saying Smiley  That's what I hope for my sister, so she can retire early (fingers crossed)
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: September 23, 2017, 08:47:16 PM

The Monero blockchain can NOT be verified with a pubkey.  A Monero Transaction Can be verified,  That is a BIG difference.
Yes thanks for correction.

Why would you want to verify other's transactions? That is the entire point, that you shouldn't.

If the protocol and the encoding procedure is bug-free, then it's just as valid transaction even if it's masked. And we know the whole point of hash functions and public key cryptography is that you cant recreate the same data from different source, collision protection.

If that mechanism is sound, then who cares what the transaction is, nobody can steal your money and nobody even knows who and how much money they have. Only those that you do business with will.

That is the whole point. You don't need a public ledge, a rich list, and such. It's very privacy invasive.

It’s all based on trust: trust in the “hopium” than that the client you happen to be using actually faithfully implements the protocol; trust in the ‘experts’ that the chain is ok when either some rogue group says it isn’t or when your own client software says it isn’t; trust in developers that the code isn’t doing some mad corrupt leakage out to an address that nobody can see or audit; trust in a centralised encryption algorithm that it won't be sprung open with a can opener a few years down the line to reveal every transaction in history. (A 'viewkey' doesn't in the least change this fact by the way. All a viewkey is is a private key with read-only privilages, it isn't a substitute for a fully transparent chain).

Just as with Dash's hopium that the Masternode system won't be broken or abused in some way.
...etc...

Did you even READ what Toknormal said?  There is no "Hopium" as you can SEE everything done on the blockchain, you simply can't TRACE it.  The Inputs and outputs are clear, Dash mixes by creating exactly the same denominations and entering them in the block chain at the same time, input = output and thus with one round, an output has 3 possible inputs.  Do this once, you have the same amount of "mixing" as Monero has.  But there is a possibility that the Masternode, who only gets chosen 1:4500 times, is spying, so we allow for as many rounds of mixing as you care to do.  After 8 rounds of mixing, even if someone can spy with 80% of the masternodes, the likelihood of seeing where funds are is minuscule.  And that's basically for the paranoid, because Masternodes are well distributed and all over the world.

In Monero, you can not see the blockchain.  Inputs and outputs are obfuscated in a mess.  Which by the way, how do you know there is no key to unravel?  Dash does this with logic, not mathematical trickery.  Who can know if there is a key to unravel a "one way encryption"?  This part I may be ignorant on, but as I can't understand it, I don't trust it.  They already had their system cracked a couple of years ago, with all previous transactions exposed, how do we know that won't happen again?  Dash uses pure logic and statistics.  With that, you can keep a transparent blockchain that can be audited to make sure it is functioning properly, that no extra coins were somehow inserted that weren't part of the rewards produced, etc...  It also allows for functions where a transparent blockchain is desirable, such as charities that want to show how their funds are spent, or the Core team, who do not mix their funds, and clearly show how they are spending funds so we can see if they are trustworthy or not.

And without the transparent blockchain, without this system of Masternodes, without the budget system, there could be no Evolution.  Evolution will be a completely decentralized yet easy to use system, like logging into your bank account, moving funds to different "accounts" and making payments as easily as Paypal.  ALL DECENTRALIZED!!!  No "3rd party service" which is what web wallets are, BTW, so know your funds are as at risk there as they are in an exchange.

Anyway, I hope this helps, if you still don't see the value, please stop shilling Monero here, you won't get anywhere with it with this audience.

Dash Meetups Catch on Across Africa

Dash adoption and awareness has made progress across Africa, with particular success stories in Ghana and Nigeria.

Cryptocurrency has the ability to offer financial services, in many cases superior to those offered by the banking system, to the unbanked. Dash in particular has a focus on being a cheap and easy-to-use digital cash, which can have serious implications to alleviate issues affecting the third world. In Africa in particular, this message is catching on thanks to a series of meetups organized by motivated activists.
https://www.dashforcenews.com/dash-meetups-catch-on-across-africa/

And here is Cryptolib's article on what is planned for this year:  https://dash-africa.com/cryptolib-announces-promotional-programme/

BTW, if you haven't voted for his proposal yet, please do, it's an essential and very inexpensive proposal considering all the work he does!  Thanks!

Hey guys!  Sorry I don't hang out here very much anymore, I've gotten really busy with family.  BUT I feel the need to talk about one of the people that works tirelessly for Dash.  His name is Abdul Salam Mahamadu, and goes by Cryptolib on slack and I think also the Dash forum.  Cryptolib is a BIG TIME activist and has been involved in numerous projects in Ghana, Africa.  He realizes that economic solutions are essential for Africa to grow and shake corruption and poverty, and he sees cryptocurrency, espcecially Dash, as the key to make it happen.

JZA has even done presentations at his meetups via video, it's amazing how small the world is becoming!  Anyway, Cryptolib has a proposal up to help him fund his "Dash Road Show"  The thing is, ... LOL ... I'm sure most of us have gotten phishing emails from some country in Africa so many times, that we're weary of the authenticity of anyone from there.  I can only guess this is the reason why his very low budget proposal is not doing well.

I want you all to know, Cryptolib, Abdul Salam Mahamadu, is AWESOME!!!  He is the REAL THING.  He is honest and full of goodness as far as I've seen.  You can look him up on the web!  <--- er... does that date me?  Google him! <--- probably still dates me... Tongue

OK, here is his VERY reasonable proposal: https://www.dashcentral.org/p/DASHROADSHOWGHANA1

No, I don't think Dash will see a huge increase in value for funding Cryptolib, Africans are not rich, they're not going to immediately go pour billions of dollars into Dash, raising the price to the moon and beyond.  So WHY fund this proposal?

Because, if Dash is accepted everywhere, in every corner of the world, it becomes the world currency.  There is a treasure trove of talent completely suppressed under corruption and just plain economic suppression.  We may not see adoption in Africa pushing Dash prices to the moon, but if we can open doors, open trade, open avenues for talent to earn money, because they have access to a world who values their product/talent, Dash WILL benefit in the next generation to come.

Without control of money, wide spread corruption can not survive.  In the United States of America, In Europe, In China, or in Africa.  This might mean peace for our children, and yes I sound like I'm a dreamer, but believe me, an old lady, the world has been in an amazing change in my lifetime, and if we can help it continue to move in the right direction, all Dash people can be immensely proud of being a part of all this!

Please vote, and please vote yes on Cryptolib's Dash Roadshow!

You make a valid point of course, but instamines in crypto are to be seen negatively for good reasons I think. In most cases they get abused for dumping. If there was a huge instamine, being transparent about it would have helped a great deal maybe. But yes, as you said, we are all asking for equality, but then again it nowhere exists anyway.

Dash WAS transparent about it.  And the Dash wouldn't be worth anything if Evan hadn't worked hard to take Dash where it is today.  He built the team that is taking us to Evolution and beyond.  Not only that, he is using his Dash to build the future, namely DAOs he will fund once we get to that point.  These won't be DAOs for making himself more money, they're DAOs that are to function, somewhat like governments, an experiment he is wanting to try.  To see if people can fund DAOs that serve the community, and be 100% answerable to the community, or they get fired and others hired.  Not like a bloated inefficient and ineffective government like we have today.

And believe me, those who were there and mined in the very beginning, those who had gotten that dam burst of coins were the first to sell them.  I doubt any of them still own much of those Dash.  Even Evan's friends and some of the great people there at the beginning have moved on, and even dumped their coins in rage quits.

It's really hilarious, honest it is, to see "investors" (actually fools) throw their good money after all kinds of silly ICOs, each new one still draws more investors than the last.  A fool and his money are easily parted.

Me?  I was a fool for a few hundred dollars by buying Dash.  I can only say God smiled on me that this project turned out to really be something.  I know I was exceedingly lucky, and perhaps there is something to my intuition - because I really liked Evan from the start.  I liked his passion and his flexibility and his energy.  It turned out to be a good call.  Even when I did buy my Dash, by that point I was convinced that it was going places.  The project had exploded with ideas almost daily, it was amazing.  I know a lot of projects have taken the easy way out with web wallets to make things easier to use, but they're centralized.  Putting account information directly on the blockchain... just bloats it (NEM I think?) and eventually, it'll be hard to retrieve.  Dash is doing it right.  Somehow, Evan et al have foreseen every issue, and come up with a solution to them.  The plan is there, the work has been going full on for over a year and a half, and when Dash Evolution comes out, people will be shaking their heads wondering where all this came from because they weren't paying attention Smiley  https://youtu.be/m2ou-WIxfLY?t=1m36s

It would be nice if people could give us some success stories, like how long it took total, and that they received their funds??? I'm also waiting withdrawal 5.5 days.  I'm a long time user (years) and did not have 2fa plus, it'd been  a while and my computer had broken down since the last time I used them.  I had to reset my password.  BUT I got no warning and didn't know they were having trouble or I would not have used them!

Anyway, if people could post " I got mine after 8 days" "I got mine after 10 days"  It would give us an idea as to how long our wait will be Smiley  and may go a ways in making us feel less horrible (well, it would me)

Thanks Smiley

Greg Maxwell Is Wrong on “Altcoins,” From Several Different Angles

Bitcoin Core developer and Blockstream CTO is no friend of cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, famously calling Dash “snake oil.” However, he took his hating to a whole new level during a recent talk on side chains. Seemingly out of the blue, he brings up “altcoins,” or cryptocurrencies that are not Bitcoin, as a threat to Bitcoin. His few arguments quite frankly don’t make much sense, and seem to work against each other. Here’s why Greg Maxwell is dead wrong on “altcoins,” whether you’re rooting for one Bitcoin to rule them all or hoping for a diverse ecosystem.

https://www.dashforcenews.com/greg-maxwell-wrong-altcoins-several-different-angles/

He's angry because we fixed his coin join idea Cheesy

Once a person digs themselves into a grave, it takes Courage and Wisdom and Character to admit you're wrong.  He's of the totally wrong generation.  No respect from me.

Also, if we were to only have one, Bitcoin, it would, as it already has, become corrupt and ruined.  Well, like I said, it already has.  Competition is what brings the highest quality for the lowest price to the users, in EVERYTHING.
