761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAP] Gapcoin - Prime Gap Search - New Math Algo - CPU / GPU - Zero Premine on: March 03, 2016, 04:47:52 AM
Anyone speaking Chinese to submit Gapcoin to Chinese exchanges? There is a huge crypto audience. Gapcoin is unique pretty much, but who knows about it in China?

For the two biggest "math coins", Primecoin and Riecoin, the biggest activity, by far, is in China.

Today

Primecoin
#   Source    Volume (24h)
1   BTC38     $ 13,736
2   Poloniex  $ 1,260
3   BTER      $ 382

Riecoin
#  Source      Volume (24h)
1  BTC38       $ 6,257
2  Poloniex    $ 163

Looks like coins were 'distributed' in October?

We are now in the process of distributing the coins.

All you will have to do is have your wallet open, and your coins should arrive shortly.

Notice it should go from being 'out of sync' to being online.

If for some reason you haven't received your coins, can you please contacted me and I will resolve this for you asap.

I bought some post crash and hope it is a real project, not a scam.

763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitHIRE (HIRE) | Freelance Market | Microtipping | Adverts | Featured Gigs on: March 02, 2016, 03:56:54 AM

what correction? Dev dumped.

There are 42,000,000 coins outstanding.

At it's peak 0.015 btc, market cap was 600,000 btc, around $240 million, more than litecoin.

The crash was probably caused by people running the price up too fast.
764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitHIRE (HIRE) | Freelance Market | Microtipping | Adverts | Featured Gigs on: March 01, 2016, 06:08:32 PM
What specifically caused the crash?

The idea looks good, the website is sharp and it looks very cheap with a marketcap around 40k usd.

The price "crash" may have been just a correction if there was no news that caused it. Was there some news?

Looks like a pump up to the 17th, then a correction?

lol no way regular ppl are buying this coin at this fucking price

Way too expensive for me, waiting for the price to go down a little bit.

I sold out and now I can't get coin back without buying it up to the moon. I'm sitting out till it comes down.

765  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 29, 2016, 07:39:19 PM

Sooo... Why don't you just try to work for Huntercoin? Sounds like you already have made your mind up IMO, and not really looking for suggestions.

What is wrong with looking for other ethical coins?

Do you own only one coin?

The poll format may have been a mistake, since it has become a spamfest, but I am able to look at other coins and gauge them.
766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 29, 2016, 07:10:50 PM
Was Horizon removed? If so, why? Thanks.

I'm guessing because OP is only interested in shilling Blackcoin and/or Unobtainium. This thread is a joke, and if you want to dictate the conversation, OP, you need to start a self-moderated thread.

The only coin on the poll which I buy is Huntercoin.

It has one vote.

Mine.

Was Horizon removed? If so, why? Thanks.

added
This poll is trying to get opinions and measure genuine sentiment towards coins.
It's not a competition.
If you link the poll in a thread and try to inflate the votes for "your" coin I'll remove your coin until the next reset.
Sia removed
Horizon ""  temporarily.
Gridcoin ""  temporarily.

Wow, do you think all these hackings could have been due to these sort of links?  I would think that most seasoned users would know not to enter their passwords but you never know.

I was having trouble finding info on an obscure coin so I typed it into google.

I saw that I was at (what seemed to be) bitcointalk, then noticed I wasn't logged in.

That's how it started...

768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 29, 2016, 05:07:34 AM
Synereo, because it frees people from the grasp of the big social media / big data complex.

Am looking at it and will probably add new coins tomorrow. Seems to have a huge premine. That's good I guess if you like premines.
769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 29, 2016, 05:00:45 AM

It's ok, I won't turn this into a cryptonote thread... If you don't feel comfortable with cryptonote and want to work with a clone of Bitcoin or another platform that's cool. But understand that what you said is contradictory in that you don't want this to turn into a thread about cryptonote, but yet your waiting to hear other "supporters" of Monero tell you that it's the best out their by "pushing" monero. You shouldn't have to be "pushed" into something you feel is ethical, I feel you are waiting to be inspired by a project.

So with that, I suggest other Monero supporters on here to stop trying to "push", Monero's project should speak for itself... And if OP doesn't want to do it, then let him do his own thing. I don't think he's really wanting to debate over something that fits what we like to see in a coin, and that's ok because he is entitled to his own opinions.

Good point. Sorry.

You can read the last few days posts on the huntercoin thread and the op on this thread to see what I was looking for.

What evidence? That Keccak was sponsored by NSA? So was SHA256. That the original devs are unknown? So is Bitcoin's dev(s). Do you have any actual evidence, or just tinfoil hat speculation?

There was a very scholarly site by some Russians, Cryptobang I think it was called, that laid out a compelling case. The site is gone but you can find copies of it I think.

I understand that there are two sides to surveillance issues, and I understand both sides are sincere. I am in coins to make money, at this point, and with my very limited, i.e., near zero, knowledge of cryptography, and the takeaway from the cryptobang article, defending cryptonote is a high bar.
770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 29, 2016, 02:31:38 AM
Gridcoin [GRC].

Gridcoin combines the energy-efficiency of Proof of Stake with scientific "Proof of Work" aka Proof of BOINC to Proof of Research.
With the energy-efficiency of Blackcoin you can generate interest. While you are (optionally) donating your computation power to different BOINC projects (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Open_Infrastructure_for_Network_Computing) like cancer or malaria research, you generate additional coins.

The coin exists for more than 2 years now, there has been no premining. It is ASIC resistant because every whitelisted BOINC project has own algorithms and work on the projects is individually compensated. Some of the projects can utilize your CPU, some also the GPU and there is one for ASIC.

Although I voted for huc this is easily my 2nd choice.

Hadn't use it for a looooong time. Is it still working OK? Withdrawals are working without issues? I can see that there are some interesting pairs but is it safe to use bter now?

Good question.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1375949.new#new

Only place to buy Datacoin, CHN coin etc.

772  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [POLL] Opinion about BTER? on: February 29, 2016, 02:22:02 AM
Yes it works.  But there are a number of coins listed that you can not withdraw, okay that happens, but there is no way to get that info unless you test deposit/withdraws.

Found this. That seemed to have been an issue after the hack. Not sure if it still is and would be nice to get someone from there to address it.

For more information on Monero. Here are some starting points
https://getmonero.org/home
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=753252.0
https://www.reddit.com/r/monero

For starters:
1) Coin development is funded entirely by donations of time and / or funds. There is no premine etc. Coins are only obtained via Proof of Work mining. This avoids many regulatory issues with agencies such as FinCEN in the United States.
2) Privacy and fungibility via ring signatures, (Cryptonote code base). Current. Ring Signatures with Confidential Transactions (Ring CT) in the future.
3) Adaptive blocksize limits combined with a tail emission address the blocksize scaling issue in Bitcoin. This is by far the highest capitalization Proof of Work coin that does not have the blocksize scaling issue, that is currently tearing the Bitcoin community apart.
4) A strong and very active development team that has over close two years made very significant advances over the original Cryptonote code base. Monero is currently listed 5th over all for developer in https://www.coingecko.com/en?sort_by=developer_score
5) A strong and active research arm that is actively addressing security and technical issues. https://lab.getmonero.org/
6) A clear set of design and development goals showing clear and measurable progress https://getmonero.org/design-goals/
7) A forum funding system (totally voluntary) with a proven track record of funding projects. https://forum.getmonero.org/9/work-in-progress

I can continue but the above should provide a prospective developer with the tools to start her research. When getting involved with a project such as Monero the one thing I would recommend is to do your own research first.

In my opinion there is enough question about cryptonote's origin to disqualify it as an 'ethical' coin. People should do their own research, as you say.
774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 28, 2016, 06:56:35 PM
Sia had a 30 million coin premine. There are currently 10 billion coins in circulation, definitely just a drop in the bucket. I regret doing that premine, should have just dropped $600 during the first 5 days of trading, would have had the same effect.

They found an elegant way to avoid premine & ICO : this is a two coin mecanism : siacoin and siafunds.
The siafunds has been sold to initial investors : they give right to have a percentage of the payment in siacoin of the storage contracts.
The siacoin are being produced by POW and are the money for the storage renting mecanism.

The one offering storage propose renting at some price on the network, the one searching for storage choose the best offer for his needs and pay in siacoin for a certain time.
A small fee of the renting payment goes to the siafunds holders.

The storage mecanism is in ealy beta stage.

tell me about the future of this HUNTERcoin, at least I want to be part of this thread with the community here

This article is a comprehensive explanation of the history behind and current state of Huntercoin. It will fill you in if you don't have time to read through the mass of posts in the Huntercoin thread. You can trust it to be correct and not outdated for the near future.

...

soooo this is all you can come up with for calling it a shitcoin? really?

Here is a brief incomplete summary of the shittiness of this shitcoin.

1) A massive premine. The signature of people who don't quite get what coins are about.

2) An NGO mentality. The signature of people who want to get paid for appearing to do something great that they are not actually doing. If you strip away the charming words like "governance", "progressive", etc, all that is left is bullshit.

3) Airdrop. A cheap way to buy allies, bribe strangers. A reputable crowd would not throw dollar bills. You can justify it by saying "xyz coin did it", but it bodes poorly for the coin.

4) Zero substantial innovation, beyond fluff stuff. The coin really adds nothing useful. It only claims to, in very eloquent language.

5) The one, single, only thing that gives the project some credibility is the list of projects that some of those devs were involved in. It looks like some of them were involved in big projects in the past. This coin will continuously need a massive inflow of money to keep it looking shiny to investors and the public. At some point, as more coins are mined, the expense will exceed the return and the house of cards will fall.

lol ok, so where does MZC and Maryjanecoin fit in that mentality? Either you are butt hurt or stupid... I cannot decide which.

You are sort of right about MZC and MARYJ.

MZC I still support because I like the idea of a Native American currency.

MARYJ I tried to support but got put off when the dev started deleting critical comments.
779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HUC] Huntercoin - UPDATE 1.00.07b - 22/April/14 on: February 26, 2016, 10:34:14 PM

I talk for myself: I'm not part of development team strictly talking, I'm an huntercoin believer that wanted to do something concrete to help the coin and instead trying to earn something speculating on exchanges, i wanted to earn something giving some useful services. I'm not paid to to what i'm doing, what i get is what community gives (donation address is in signature and the 2000 hucs you see are from BayAreaCoins) and in future what i could earn with client fee.

At the end I think i could be considered an example of what anybody can do to support a coin: instead waiting that others do something, i prefer to do (or at least try)
I hope that with future releases of the official daemon huntercoin could get the attention it deserve.

I've read some posts where someone asked to do games that uses this coin, or service that accept hucs or whatever.
The idea obviously is nice and everybody know that services are what gives values to a coin (for huntercoin the game itself has an intrinsic value) but what people maybe miss is that, for example, to do a MMORPG a huge investment has to be done, in term of time and money and this project isn't funded afaik

To give value to the coin, ANYBODY can setup an e-commerce and sold something in hucs, or try to find merchants to sold, etc...
cryptocoin are launched from someone and developed during time by one or more person, but since it's opensource, anybody can contribute to codebase AND marketing, at the end isn't the creator of the coin by definition, that has the major revenue, but who have the coins (don't look at me, lol)

recap about this coin: no premine, except a small amount for bounty, etc.., mostly lost in mikhail (who passed away) pc, no IPO, no investors at early stage, so of course this coin is in the hand of community (and in snailbrain "team", like domob, that keep working on the core)

ideas are great, but need people who do concrete things too Smiley (donating is also a form of support of course, no one ask to people to do things they can't do)

ok, a post maybe too long Smiley

An old post worth reposting, just to show that even people who don't speak english good can work on coins.
