281  Economy / Reputation / Re: Assessment, user yahoo62278 [Yobit Scum Manager] on: October 15, 2021, 03:36:22 AM
I did not approve of yahoo managing the YoBit campaign in 2019, and I do think he lost some credibility for doing so.

With that being said, the YoBit campaign ended almost two years ago. I don't think it is appropriate to relitigate this issue just because you disagree with his stance on something. The time to voice your concerns was in late 2019 or early 2020.

If you have a disagreement with yahoo on an unrelated matter, you should make a fact-based argument as to why he is wrong, not try to smear him.
282  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Wallet fingerprinting on: October 15, 2021, 03:22:41 AM
Anything your wallet software does that is not default behavior for other wallet software can potentially create a "fingerprint" of your wallet, and of you. This goes for anything from input selection, to the number of change addresses, to fee rate (including if the feerate paid is rounded a particular way), to anything you mentioned.

It is very unlikely that someone can connect two addresses baed on fingerprint alone, but a fingerprint may confirm that two addresses belong to the same entity if there is other information creating a weak link between addresses that does not necessarily prove they belong to the same entity. If privacy is a concern for you, it is best to not change a lot of settings in your wallet software.
283  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 15, 2021, 02:58:51 AM
But at the end of the day @quickseller, lightlord said nothing for ten weeks.
I definitely agree the communication, or the lack thereof is very unprofessional. He has also been barely posting, or not positing for those 10 weeks. I don't know what his setup is for his cold storage wallet, it may very well be that his private keys are stored offsite and needs to travel far to access his private keys. I think the fact that he posted that he will pay participants "within 48 hours" suggests that he does not have immediate access to his private keys (or at least he is trying to project this to be the case). I also don't know his personal situation over the past 10 weeks, and there were reports that he may have been sick.

Regardless of his private key situation, he should have been in better communication with those he owed money to.

Trading partners are well aware of his tendency to change at late. He pays extra when he pays late. Late payments are common when dealing with businesses.

LL pays late but he also compensates for the late payments. If a late payment is a concern, you can look at his neutral trust.

You say trading partners as if the only people who do business with Lightlord are those who have known him all their lives.
You can look at his trust history and see that one of LL's first sent trust ratings mention that he payed his trading partner late.
When he takes a month to pay people who request a big withdrawal from his casinos does he also give extra money? I ask because I haven't heard anything about that.
That I do not know. I would assume that once someone requests a withdrawal, their account balance is immidiately deducted, preventing them from gambling with that balance. I am not sure if it is possible to cancel withdrawals in any of his casinos. It is however common for gamblers to withdraw when they are done gambling for the day, and to deposit again the next day (or a few days later) to gamble more.
284  Economy / Economics / Re: What do people think about CBDC? on: October 14, 2021, 10:34:06 PM
What do people think about CBDC?
Bitmex research published research on a central bank issued digital coin last March.

A CBDC is a stable coin issued by the country's central bank that the public can use. When you deposit a dollar into your bank account, you are trusting both the bank and the central bank. You are trusting the former to return your deposit, and are trusting the latter because your bank keeps its reserves at the central bank. Currently it is not possible for a member of the general public to open an account at a central bank. If a central bank starts to issue a CBDC available to the public, the central bank would effectively be putting all the banks in the county out of business, as there would be no reason to deposit your money at the bank when you can just use the CBDC.

A CBDC will make it so banks can no longer lend, which will lead to deflation as money leaves the banking system.
285  Economy / Economics / Re: Everything you wanted to know about BTC futures but were afraid to ask! on: October 14, 2021, 10:22:53 PM
There is a big push in CME futures markets.

Where does this observation lead?
What cause such an excitement in the market?
CME futures are cash settled. This means it is more difficult for trader to arbitrage price discrepancies.

Say for example, interest rates, the cost of holding, and the cost of borrowing bitcon are all zero (for simplicity sake). With a "physical" delivery futures contract, the cost of an arbitrage trade would be trading commissions, and slippage when trading both the futures contract and when trading bitcoin. However when a futures contract is settled via cash, an arbitrage trader will need to close his position in bitcoin when the contract expires, which includes  the cost of price slippage when he closes his trade. It is unknown how deep orderbooks will be when the futures contract expires, so a trader will have to guess the cost of slippage when closing the bitcoin portion of the trade, and he will likely need to assume there will be an increased slippage cost in his model to protect himself against losses.

A "physical" delivery futures contract is much easier to arbitrage. If the futures price is above the spot price, he can simply buy spot bitcoin, short the futures contract, pay the trading fees, incur slippage, then transfer his bitcoin from his exchange account to his futures account, and wait for the contract to expire. Or he could buy the futures contract, short bitcoin, transfer the delivered bitcoin from his futures account at expiration to his exchange account to cover his short position, if the futures price is below the spot price.

Obviously, the cost to borrow bitcoin is not zero, and as such, the futures price compared to the spot price will change in part by changes in the cost to borrow bitcoin.
286  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 14, 2021, 03:36:43 AM
It seems that LL has a history of being slow to pay, potentially going back to 2013. He sent a positive trust rating to Nolo indicating he sent a bonus for Nolo having to wait.

When you are running a business and doing business with other businesses, one fact of life is that you will not always be paid on time.

I remind you that the feedbacks we have left are not for not paying. They are for late payment. When a person takes longer than promised to pay you, you never know if he will finally pay you until he does.

Not sure what drugs Quicksy is on today, but being consistently late for long periods of time is contrary to sane expectations in a business deal. Having an eight year history of that kind of behavior is not a good thing.

Gotta say though I'm happy to see that some red trust ratings cured lightlord of whatever his illness was.
SSRIs are working quite fine. Thanks for the concern.

287  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 13, 2021, 09:48:59 PM
Any negative trust he receives should be removed once he catches up on payments.
I disagree with that, since this is the second time his campaign participants have had serious issues with payment.  It's just not acceptable behavior, and I thought I was being generous last time by changing my negative to a neutral.  This time I think he's earned a neg, regardless of what reasons or excuses he has for not paying out and not communicating.  Enough is enough with this guy.
If he pays his debt, there is no reason why he should have a negative.

Here I agree more with The Pharmacist. I have left Lightlord neutral feedback for the moment, but I think everyone who deals with him on money matters should be aware of how he behaves.

I am still owed money by Lightlord, Quickseller, I said so on the first page.

The fact that I do you a service and you, who have promised to pay me next week take 4,5, 10 weeks to pay me or more, seems to me at least morally questionable and at least makes me doubt whether I should leave him negative feedback as The Parmacist has done.

Since he's supposedly sick, I'm going to do what I said, wait a couple of weeks and see how it goes.
Well this has been an issue for a while, people have known this is an issue and have continued doing business with him anyway. When he is late paying, he compensates those that he owes by paying extra. I am not sure what else you could ask of him.

In any event, it seems that lightlord has resolved the issue as he has agreed to keep payments in escrow.

You must be fun at parties...

Don't get fooled, He is not using a script; He is simply programmed that way by some higher power
I am plenty fun at parties.

I think it is fair to say that aysg76 was genuinely interested in how DdmrDdmr sends merit so quickly. So I explained it to him.

Post Mortem Analysis:
This represents an average of 2.04 merits per second and 1.07 TX/S
How in the hell is he that fast like seriously 2.04 merits per second? It usually takes me 4-5 minutes to find out a good post on the forum which is worth meriting

He uses a script to actually send the merit. He also uses a database query to get a list of posts he has previously sent merit to that meet certain criteria. The output from his database query is used as input for his script.
290  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 11, 2021, 02:59:53 AM
If negative ratings remain after someone has honored their commitments, why would someone repay a delinquent debt, but more importantly, why would someone complain about a delinquent debt if doing so will mean the debtor will receive a prominent negative rating?
I don't know, QS, why do credit rating agencies keep people's FICA scores at 600 for years when they don't pay their credit card bills?  Why are men being fired from their jobs for mere accusations of sexual misconduct?  Why do people earn reputations as being unreliable, or liars, or scammers?  Why do we tag anyone on this forum for scamming?  Those are all questions as good as the ones you're asking, yet those things happen.
Lenders will treat potential borrowers differently if a potential borrower is currently delinquent on a loan, compared to a borrower who was previously delinquent, but is now current/paying as agreed.

IMO being fired for a mere accusation is inappropriate, but a substantiated accusation of sexual misconduct is obviously more serious than not paying your bills on time.

Tags are given out as a deterrence to scamming. A flag for a contract violation should be opposed (and support should be withdrawn) if the damaged party has been made whole. The statement that is made when supporting a contract violation reads, in part:
Quote
[user] did not make the victims of this act roughly whole, AND it is not the case that all of the victims forgave the act

If he pays his debt, there is no reason why he should have a negative.

The threat of a negative rating is a primary reason why many honor their debts, and the potential for a negative to be removed is a reason why someone will pay a delinquent debt. If negative ratings remain after someone has honored their commitments, why would someone repay a delinquent debt, but more importantly, why would someone complain about a delinquent debt if doing so will mean the debtor will receive a prominent negative rating?

I agree that the behavior is unacceptable, but is not something that warrants a permit negative. He is compensating those who he is late paying with a bonus.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Automatic transfer from ERC-20 token wallet. on: October 10, 2021, 09:10:17 PM
You will most likely need to run an implementation of an etherum node that accepts RPC calls. The specific calls you will have to make in order to create/sign a transaction will depend on the client implementation you are running.

Depending on the values involved, you may also consider crediting tokens to a database balance for the user, and allowing the user to withdraw upon certain criteria being met. Anytime you move a token to a user's ETH address/"wallet", you will have to pay a gas fee.
293  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DCA: calculating orders size to cover current loss? on: October 10, 2021, 07:05:55 PM
Problem: I have a position in loss, position size $100, x5 leverage, -50% PNL,  Binance.

I want to do DCA, what should be my limit order size so I can cover the current -50% loss? Cheesy
What exactly is your goal? When you DCA when the price is lower than your current average purchase price, you will lower your average purchase price but you won’t be able to make your trade profitable without the price subsequently moving in your favor.

If you are down by 50%, you can buy nothing and you will break even once the price doubles from where it is. You can double the amount of bitcoin you hold by buying an amount of bitcoin that you already own at 50% below your current purchase price, which would lower your overall purchase price by 25%, and you would need the price to increase by 50% for you to break even.
294  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam QR API bitcoinqrcodemaker.com on: October 10, 2021, 06:48:41 PM
One of the staff tried this site 3 years ago and warned us here
It seems that this website has been in the wild for years already and could have caught a lot of victims:
The address the scam site bitcoinqrcodemaker.com is currently producing on their QR codes currently does not have any transactions, although it is likely that it has used different addresses over time.

This is one example as to why it is important to search for scams prior to interacting with any bitcoin related website or service, especially "free" services.
295  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 10, 2021, 06:32:09 PM
When I started with the campaign, there was already a delay of about 5 weeks in paying us, then it went up to 6, then 7. Someone who had been with the campaign for a long time explained that in principle the payments were supposed to be weekly, but it usually took 2 weeks to pay, then 3, then 4.

It has to be said that when he pays with a backdated payment he gives a small bonus. The longer the delay the bigger the bonus.
Just to clarify that although I am no longer part of the campaign, I am somehow involved because I have been owed two weeks for more than two months. We are quite a few people in this situation, we left the sig campaign when the rates went down about two months ago, but he still owes us money.
Are you still owed money? If so, you would have standing to open a scam accusation against Lightlord that should result in negative trust given that he is apparently 10 weeks behind in payments. Any negative trust he receives should be removed once he catches up on payments.

Given the "bonus" being given for late payments, I would encourage those owed money to remain patient. Although at one point I would suggest that participants leave the campaign until/unless payments are caught up.
296  Other / Meta / Re: How can I change my Name? on: October 10, 2021, 01:46:59 AM
I have made a mistake, how can I change my forum name?

You might be better off just making a new account and moving on.
Unless your current name is somehow going to lead to you getting doxed, or otherwise endanger you, the above is the right answer.

If either of the above applies, PM Theymos and he will likely change your display name (assuming you can document the above).

Welcome to bitcointalk. I am sure you will enjoy your time here, learn a lot and eventually help others learn about bitcoin.

My advice is to not look for “alt” accounts. Don’t be a forum “cop”. Instead, read threads that interest you and respond with questions about what is being discussed and add anything that you can add to conversations.

Forum police are very high profile, but over the long term contribute very little to the community on a net basis.

Find sections that appeal to you, read many threads in these sections, and post when you can make a meaningful contribution. Ask meaningful and insightful questions.

All other links allowed in a user's profile can lead to outside the forum. I don't see why an avatar link shouldn't be able to lead to an outside link.
True. Well, it'll just make things worse then.
All other links on a user's profile at least have the ability to have a description of the link. If you have a website link in your profile, you must have a website title, and any link in your signature must either be a "raw" link or have some kind of text if using the url= bb code.

If your avatar contains a link, there would not be any text, only an image.

Also, the forum has been hacked via the avatar system before, so I doubt that theymos is exactly eager to be making changes to the avatar system.

Anyone can also add a short link to their personal text. It would not be clickable, however it would be nearly as good as a clickable avatar.
