https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/1337/

It's just an easter egg and has nothing to do with Bitcointalk. It's something SMF (the forum software we're using) has done.
1782  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin blockchain data APIs on: February 19, 2022, 12:37:09 PM
-snip-
Any way, does anyone know why cryptoapis.io asks a high amount for things that can be obtained with free APIs services?

OP might be interested in fetching balances only, but unlike the other services, they seem to offer way more than that. They basically have everything you need to create almost anything you want: Exchanges, lending platforms, wallets, block explorers, portfolio management apps, etc., and it's not only for BTC. They seem to support many other blockchains and protocols.

1783  Economy / Web Wallets / BTC.com (wallet) shutting down on: February 19, 2022, 09:18:48 AM
The wallet service is shutting down so make sure to withdraw your funds and also stop using the address they provided you with before the 1st of April.

I doubt there are many who are still using the service by now but I'm posting this because I remember that at some point, they were overestimating fees (like really overestimating) and that led some people to just keep their funds there and forget about them in hopes that the fees will be fixed.
1784  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin blockchain data APIs on: February 19, 2022, 08:43:18 AM
There's Block.io[1] but I couldn't find a mention of their API limits.

And you also have Zabo[2]. I haven't tried them myself but it should allow you to do exactly what the services you mentioned do and also get data from your exchange accounts.

1785  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Shop now accepts Lightning Payments on: February 18, 2022, 11:34:33 AM
It is curious that trezor suite does not support lightning payments yet. Anyway, you can use your trezor wallet with Electrum or some other wallet which supports lighting to buy stuff in the store.

I don't think they have any plans to start supporting LN either, see this:

While many of our users have asked about Lightning network integration, it is not a feature that makes sense for a hardware wallet.
Bitcoin Lightning transactions require that both the sender and receiver are online at the same time, which means your Trezor device would need to be connected online and unlocked any time that you are expecting a payment. While it would be possible to implement this feature, it undermines the purpose of having a hardware wallet.
To make the most of Lightning transactions, it is recommended to use a hot wallet on your computer or mobile, and then transfer the received balance to your Trezor wallet for safekeeping.
1786  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoinpaperwallet.com - scam still alive? on: February 17, 2022, 07:45:39 PM
Apparently, CoinDesk tried to dig into it and to reach out to the new owner, but he's denying that they're responsible for people losing their funds...

https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2021/02/24/bitcoinpaperwallet-back-door-responsible-for-millions-in-missing-funds-research-suggests/

The good thing now is that most people use MetaMaks nowadays, and since the site is added to their domain warning list, people shouldn't be able to access it. Not without seeing a warning anyway.
1787  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Paper Bitcoin wallet "with" ATM? on: February 17, 2022, 05:31:27 PM
AFAIK, you can't sell BTC with a printed private key. Most ATMs require sending bitcoin to an address. Why don't you simply send the funds to a personal non-custodial wallet and then whenever you decide to sell the BTC, you can do it at the ATM? You won't be exposing any personal information this way unless, of course, you decide to buy or sell a large amount of money, in which case the ATM will ask you to pass KYC.

1791  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Desktop wallets using 2FA. on: February 16, 2022, 04:57:05 PM
Electrum does have the 2FA feature[1] but it comes with a price[2].

Why not just buy a hardware wallet though? It's definitely worth the price if you're planning to store large amounts of money.

1793  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: 2022 ستكون إعتراف لتبني البتكوين on: February 15, 2022, 04:16:59 PM
-snip-

1794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When your freedom is taken, bitcoin and crypto is the solution! on: February 15, 2022, 10:10:35 AM
Apparently, "crypto payment providers" are affected by the same restrictions.

https://blockworks.co/crypto-payments-firms-face-new-restrictions-under-canadas-blockade-crackdown/

Not sure I understand how is this is going to work? Let's say a Canadian citizen decides to donate (from an exchange) to a publically known bitcoin address that belongs to the truckers. Would the exchange be required to give the donor's details (name, address) to the government?
1795  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Get average price of cryptocurrency for given timeframe on: February 14, 2022, 05:20:09 AM
It looks like you have the necessary technical background, so you can use Coingecko's API as mentioned above. You don't have to send a request for each date though, This will give you the historical price data within a range of timestamp (UNIX):

Code:
https://api.coingecko.com/api/v3/coins/bitcoin/market_chart/range?vs_currency=usd&from=1643716339&to=1644753139

You then just sum everything and calculate the average yourself.
1796  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Index Fund on Cryptocurrency on: February 13, 2022, 01:44:30 PM
There is Indexcoop.com which appears to be the biggest of them all (~200M in assets under management). They're backed by some known investment firms, but I would still recommend you to do more research as I haven't tried them myself.

Wink

1798  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Cold Wallet: What is My Private Key? on: February 13, 2022, 12:16:25 PM
That helps, thanks. The "keys" then are an internal function that I am not privy to? In this case, as you indicated, I DO have my key which was generated from my seed words but my key is not something I could write down like my public address?
-snip-

It's just that the Trezor suite doesn't give you the ability to export them. You could do that using Electrum but I would not recommend doing that. For two reasons:

1. It's not convenient: Say you have 100 addresses (with funds). Would you rather have 100 private keys (one key for each address) or 24 seed that would help you restore the whole wallet?

2. It's not really safe: If your PC is infected, and you do try to export the keys, then a hacker could easily get them and spend the funds even without getting physical your hardware wallet and PIN code.
1799  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Cold Wallet: What is My Private Key? on: February 13, 2022, 11:59:28 AM
The private keys are derived from the 24 words seed that was mentioned during the setup. That's all you need to have full control over your funds.

You also said that you're never asked for a password when connecting your device? A PIN is always required when connecting the device and spending unless you selected the "REMEMBER" option when setting up the wallet:

As mentioned above, it appears that Western Union has resumed its operations in the country so you can check Bestchange[1]. The services don't seem to require KYC but the rates/fees look outrageous so it may not be the best solution
