What is the point of a Bitcoin social network? The elite would rather meet behind closed doors in europe surrounded by attractive ladies, security, drinks, some snacks, the works. The most beautiful part is that it would be exclusive and so no one would harrass you with their stupid crap.
Funny how you guys talk about this exclusive Bitcoin "elite". You make it sound like they're freemasons or something. I thought the whole point of btc is the fact that there is no elite and we are all equal, no? Quite the opposite, Bitcoin is capitalistic in it's nature, not socialistic, I guess you could say that the whole point of BTC is the fact that there are people that the value of their life is less than a dogs, there are also people that are worth as much as thousands of "normal" people. I didn't mean socialistic, I meant there shouldn't be an elite within btc in the sense that we're all in this together and need as many people on board as possible to benefit us all, so I wouldn't want potential new adopters to feel like their first day at school like get the feeling they don't belong or that there's some special "club" within btc they're not invited to join. I know some people will hate that vibe and not get involved + take their money somewhere else. Know what I mean? |

Wow, I was just going through some of the first posts in this thread. I wish I would have known about Bitcoin back in 2011. I've been a big fan of Bitcoin ever since I first found out about it. I would have been accumulating them left and right if they were that cheap!
Today's price might appear to be a steal in a few years time.  Yes, or the other way round...but hopefully yes. |

Bitcoin Infrastructure
There are a lot of new Bitcoin companies out there that are making Bitcoin easier to obtain and easier to use. For example coinbase which allows you to buy Bitcoins right away into an account. Around some of these new companies such as Circle who are trying to introduce things like Bitcoin banking. Which I think is absolutely ridiculous, Bitcoin was never meant to be banked.
You need to remember that most of these companies have been started by ex PayPal or ex Visa/MasterCard employee's etc. and they want their hands on your Bitcoins. So do yourself a favour and BE YOUR OWN BANK. Use your Bitcoins with companies that you really think are giving you a good service/benefit.
Is Bitstamp ok? I haven't had any problems with them yet but since I seem to pick all the companies that end up scamming everyone I'm thinking maybe I should ask you what your opinion is? Bitstamp have been pretty good so far, and they've been around for quite a bit. They also have an independent third party audit of their finances. They do require ID verification for all accounts, no exceptions. As more established companies carry out audits, and they're made available to the public, then there'll be some rest of mind. However, you should still be careful, as it's possible for some audits to be fake. Bitstamp has been a good exchange, but still you should only treat it as an exchange but not your wallet (ie. don't store your bitcoin on it but on your own personal wallet). That's great info as well, I never thought of that.
