SATA cable is good for mining too, you just have to avoid using high-end GPU on them like RTX3060 3070 3080 and 3090, I'm running a rig with gtx 1650 and 1660 with SATA cable and it's running very cold and smooth, these cards pull just 50watt to 70watt.
Do not provide bad advice on the forums to the general users. People who know what they're doing and can measure the actual voltage pulled through the SATA connector can probably get away with using SATA and know which ones have real 16 or 18 gauge wire. Most cheap SATA adapters use smaller 20 gauge cables or even 20 gauge labeled as 18 with extra thick insulation. These connectors provide too much resistance, burn out and catch fire all the time. If a card is pulling most of it's power from the riser instead of the PCIe plug based on the way it's designed and configured when overclock, the SATA risers will burn up because the SATA port is not rated for anywhere near 75 watts, not even 45 watts. |

People were selling 1030s for $150 earlier this year and you can still get $100 easily on Craigslist from desperate gamers. That would have netted you more ETH than you would be able to mine in 5 years if you bought when ETH pulled back to $1700 just a few months ago. Unless that's your only available card it doesn't make financial sense to mine with it.

Also, I have on the way RX 6600 non-XT. Is that card will be supported in the beta release the same way as the XT models?
Should be supported, but we were unable to test because we don't have 6600 non-XT yet in our hands. Let us know if you have any problems with it. My 6600s mine fine on nanopool and ethermine but they always run into this problem when a new epoch roles around (happened for last 2 epochs). They submit incorrect shares as soon as the new epoch starts. A DAG is created but it seems it results in nonstop incorrect shares until restarted. You have a few wrong notions about mining. While it technically will provide passive income, most do not sell their coins for fiat on a daily or even weekly basis like dollar cost averaging. You're going to have to work to try to try to sell in hot bull markets (like today) and hold during bull runs which might last months or even years. So this added complexity won't really allow you to focus more on your education unless it's a psychological stress relief knowing you're invested into something with a strong future.
If you have a PC and a decent power supply, just buy a RTX 3xxx series card and mine Ether with just 1 card to understand the mechanics of the game. 3090s run $2500 or so before taxes and just 1 card removes complexity of having issues running many card or having to tweak clocks with AMD cards. If you decide you can commit more time and money after learning about wallets, pools, transactions, private keys, and so forth then jump in.
If you want a no headache way of investing, buy 1.25 ETH right now and sit on it for a decade.

Remember mining is always a hedge against uncertainty. You are effectively buying crypto with the electricity and depreciation of your GPUs and mining hardware. If think crypto is going to boom you should be buying at an exchange and just hold as you would do with your mined coins. You also have the opportunity to quick sell if you made a quick profit and think it's going to bull. Mining is your assurance that if you bag holdings go to zero at least you have a tangible asset. Only reason not to buy crypto is if it's illegal where you live or you're trying to stay below radar (acquiring coins without needing a non decentralized exchange). If GPUs are too expensive, there's always another route.

nVidia choose to use Samsung's 8mm node and obviously the yields are not good or the large die itself is very demanding and they just can't get enough of these cards manufactured. The nVidia shareholder statement shows about 6% of their sales went to crypto dedicated channels. There's probably more cards in the hands of narcissistic Youtube "influencers" than went to mining.
Stupid behavior on AMD's part saying there would be plenty of supply for the new RX line also didn't help.
Both launches look like absolute failures on the part of their logistics and deployment teams. The engineers can only do so much.

Crypto is increasingly being seen as a possible hedge against irrational money printing of fiat. Bitcoin is more or less deflationary as the supply is limited and the expansion rate at present probably is outstripped by it's demand - hence the price increase.
As to why Bitcoin is rising stronger, well the media still presents it as if it's a singular movement. Only channels like CNBC even bother minuscule mentioning other chains like Ethereum.

They might put that cache on the supers - I don't know how difficult it would be to integrate that into the design. I imagine they'll want the Super out sooner because AMD cards have the RAM advantage at the time being and I think the Supers were slated to have double the VRAM, so maybe no cache on them.
I think an AMD compute card coming out next March would probably blow the 3080 and Radeon VII out of the water if it had HBM and 512 bus. Considering stock is so limited now looks like I'll be forced to go that option. I don't like only having 1 or 2 cards of a certain type - much easier to populate a rig with 6-8 of the same card.
The question is, what is cost benefit here, cache or a better gram? AMD used cache and a common gdddr6, nvidia used the top gddrx6 ram. I wonder what would have happened if amd used cache and a top gddrx6. If amd wanted to create a eth mining gpu they have the means, instead of cache add hbm or both. I think they are adding HBM to their compute card that is coming out. They know they need to compete with nVidia in the gamer market because it will help sell their CPUs at the same time. nVidia probably has more sway commanding better pricing for GDDR6X than AMD did, but AMD has the history with TSMC and is sitting pretty with that 7nm node. With SAM the 6800 is best performance per $ in gaming at present, but meh for mining. Datacenters already use EPYC for their clusters but with nVidia GPUs. With a good compute card they might be able to take some of that deep learning market share (and make miners happy). |

If amd would made navi2 2ghz+ gpu with hbm2 4096 bit wide mem like vii has it would never go to gamers. So, they make pro compute card instead and limited mem bandw for gaming card ...

Considering stock is so limited now looks like I'll be forced to go that option. I don't like only having 1 or 2 cards of a certain type - much easier to populate a rig with 6-8 of the same card. |

Without someone complaining, the ones who is leading might not know the mistakes that he mis making. We can't always be a "Yes People" to anything that they've done wrong, we need ti let them know so they can fix it. We should ler them know what people needed most especially these days that life is so hard.
The only thing the complaining does it let the power at the top know just how hard they can push. The governors like Gavin Newsom in California are testing the waters to see how much control they can get away with - they don't even believe the nonsense coming out of their mouth. He went to a dinner with 12+ other parties violating his own 3-family rule and goes on TV the next day to state that mask wearing is now mandatory when outside. It's only when people stop complaining and pick up pitchforks will they know the border of how far they can push. The complaining is just a relief valve for those on the bottom - with social media being used as valves. The people at the top don't care (hence why they're at the top). |

None of the big tech giants that helped Biden get elected actually manufacture anything. Their entire contribution is payroll taxes and any C-corp taxes they pay above that. It's the little S-corps run by mom and pop business that carry a higher tax burden. Guess who Biden is going to help.
Trump's policies were not the best as that 0% interest rate which he pushed the Feds who wanted to knee jerk raise on a growing economy in 2017/2018 but it was the best considering the crap we had to work with with an overheated housing market on the expensive coasts and a depressed workforce.
Unless all those unskilled labor masses suddenly learn to code there's going to be a lot of unemployment. Companies are going to take their capital and just allocate it to automation to avoid paying high corporate rates Biden institutes - or they'll just leave the country.

No billionaire was swayed by the Paypal news. The mere fact they are billionaires means they themselves could move markets. If Buffet stated he bought a sizable amount of Bitcoin you would see Bitcoin surpass 100k. The whole point of the announcement was to set up a competition for other billionaires to compete in obtaining stakes. It's the same crap with the fine art market. Most of these billionaires don't even bother displaying the Picasso and Rebrandts they buy - they just keep it in a safe knowing it's a limited commodity. They make sure to announce the purchase after they bought. |

look the venezuela inflation is grazy but currency is still used.
For Venezuela I think the sanctions will end soon if it is in Biden's hands. for some reason, it is clear that Biden's diplomatic style is a little different from Trump's. Then Iran was also not free from US sanctions when Trump became president. for the two countries as if it is a breath of fresh air so that they can be partners again. yes the system that will be carried out by Biden will not be far from the system that has been implemented by Obama. I wouldn't count on sanctions easing under Biden. He will absolutely be more diplomatic and professional in his relations with other nations, but the US has had sanctions on Venezuela under Obama and it is very likely they will continue under Biden. There is a larger foreign policy goal the US is trying to realize with the sanctions, and that doesn't change with the president, no matter how much of an idiot Trump was. This is larger than him. Biden is going to make sure that China gets the oil that it needs to grow, and if that means cheap oil exports fro Iran so be it. Or at least this will be the case until China attempts to invade Taiwan. Then he'll be in a quandry. Help the hand that fed you or help the democracy that stood up against China. It should be amusing to watch. Either way the dollar will not benefit. |

looks like nvidia 3080 is pretty good but a power hog.
mine do 94 and 91
or 185 at 530 watts measured on the wall with a kwatt meter.
i have some four card amd 5600 that do about 168 mh at 460 watts.
so nvidia 3080 is a bit more power hungry but uses less space
the 6800 xt uses less power
and the 5700xt and 5600 xt are still okay.
just wait for optimizations from miner developers. then it will hit its performance 100-120mhs 6800xt will do i think with much more less power. i remember when 5700 came out and was giving 3mhs. so wait for it, Do you see how many more transistors got added to the GPU as in cores. You can't power them with hamsters - they need electricity. "100-120MH/s with much more less power" - I have a bridge to sell you. |

So 170watts at the system level to pull in an extra 10MH/s over a 5700XT that can do the same with 100-110watts. Looks like the miners are going to need some tweaking to get anywhere near 70MH without melting the memory. No stock on Amazon and Microcenter had low amounts so meh thus far. |
