1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 25, 2016, 12:18:12 PM
Did Dash repository migrate from github to somewhere else? When I look at github, I see pretty much no work done since the beginning of the year:
https://github.com/dashpay/dash/graphs/commit-activity
and virtually no one working on the code:
https://github.com/dashpay/dash/graphs/contributors

Is github no longer the primary repo?

Good thing Dash is not a Proof of Stake coin and never will be one, which makes any comparison to Proof of Stake coins wearthless.

No it doesnt. It doesnt matter that only half the mining revenue is from staking. What matters is you're promising >10% ROI with ~zero running costs. Thats whats luring in the masses, inflating the bubble, just like it did with previous PoS coins.

Never underestimate the power of having blockchain identifyable saving accounts available, in a time of decreasing global banking interest rates (with my bank its currently at 0.9%).

LOL, again, proving my point!
Did you know you can get >20% interest rate on a bank account?
Just put your money in a bank in Venezuela. Maybe then you'll begin to understand the importance of asset value instead of focusing on percentage rates.

The growth of active masternodes (full nodes) will also excellerate exponentially once Dash Evolution is out

Really? Just how many masternodes do you think are possible, given a 1000 dash minimum?

Quote
Also never underestimate the economics at play in Dash and its Masternode Network : a lower number of active masternodes will increase the masternode rewards, which will attract new
masternode buyers

Yeah, i see you have a thorough understanding of the mechanisms at play. Good luck with your investment.

You can go back to early 2014, but the masternode effect hadnt kicked in yet. And you can chart it against BTC so that its volatility rubs off on dash. However, this is what  it looks like in USD, since January 2015,  when the number of nodes was still quite low:

Correlates relatively well with the #masternodes:

There hasnt been a test yet of a significant price drop since the masternode boom, nor a test of market price during a non trivial masternode count decrease. Of course, these things will almost certainly happen together. And we know how that ended for all previous PoS coins.

Comparing Dash to Paycoin..... LOL

Faking quotes is not appreciated. The actual quote is entirely reasonable in its context.

Besides, like it or not, there are indeed quite a few parallels between Dash and paycoin beyond just proof of stake. Do you really need me to list them? Of course, there are important differences too, so what other proof of stake coin would you like to compare it with? Lets look at the one's Im aware off:

Peercoin:

NXT:

Blackcoin

and why not add paycoin, since I know of no more PoS coins:

I spot a pattern.

+1 Why I need cash out masternodes if they give to me 10% income per year..which bank give to You that %?

^ that is precisely the problem, people like you, looking at the % and ignoring the underlying value of the coin that % is paid out in. Paycoin was another proof of stake coin. Instead of master node, it was called hashtakers and prime controllers, and it offered a far higher % per year for proof of stake mining.  How many did you buy?

Crypto investors just keep making that mistake for as long as Ive been around. Once upon a time, it was through "mining bonds" that paid like 10% per month (but devaluated 2x faster), then came all the 7% per week ponzi schemes, then cloud mining, now its Proof of Stake mining.

One day, you will come to understand that a deflationary coin, just like in investment in gold,  doesnt need and cant even support interest or percentage growth. Anything in crypto that does promise asset growth is always either a scam or a highly risky and usually terrible investment. The only potential sustainable gain with deflationary coins, or commodities like gold, is in the value of the asset itself. If you want x% growth, use fiat and take it to a bank.

Ah, so 'nodecount level-off' is the new Dash bazooka ?

In this crypto world, people arent content with an increase of asset value, they look for asset growth; so they invest fortunes in mining hardware that never achieves ROI, cloudmining that tend to be scams,  ponzi's that always collapse,  loaning schemes that tend to default, bitcoin securities that are worthless, etc.

In this world, the promise of 10-20% ROI with no running costs is a pretty big lure. It worked. The 1000 coin requirement for Master Nodes has been the bubble generator fueling Dash price.  It doesnt take much genius to figure out what will happen when that generator fails.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 23, 2016, 11:21:04 PM

The thing you're leaving out, is that the current market cap is largely based on demand for interest earning coins. A demand that has to level out eventually and can quickly reverse if 1000 dash stored in master nodes suddenly become a losing proposition

Apparently not. (According to 2.5 year's worth of trading and nodecount correlations Wink ).

2.5 years of steady increase in # of masternodes will do nothing to help you predict what happens when that node count levels off,  and eventually goes down, flooding the exchanges with its contents.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 23, 2016, 08:04:59 AM
The bits you left out are the part of the cycle where the supply-demand curve balances out and re-asserts itself again. If you look at a 3-day chart of Dash since its launch you'll see that we've had about 3-4 full cycles of saturation/sell-off/re-establish demand so far and I've described this more fully here in terms of a dynamic interaction between two segments of the coin supply - a "trading" component and a "reserve" component on which holders earn interest.

The thing you're leaving out, is that the current market cap is largely based on demand for interest earning coins. A demand that has to level out eventually and can quickly reverse if 1000 dash stored in master nodes suddenly become a losing proposition. PoW currencies dont have this problem. The "interest earning" aspect of it is invested in mining hardware. If/when the currency suddenly loses value, mining may become unprofitable, causing miners to lose their shirt if they cant switch to another coin, but hoarders are not affected by this, since dumping asics on the market has no effect on the price of the coin. There is no feedback loop. This is quite different with PoS coins. Your master node cant switch to mining Ether and you cant sell your node without selling the coins.

Quote
'Dash's goals is to be USEFUL.  To be a currency.'

Sure, but it isnt yet, is it? And yet its valued at $70M. If you think that valuation comes from anything other than speculation and interest seeking investors, ie, master node operators, you're delusional.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 22, 2016, 06:08:13 PM
I mine all kinds of shit coins, but I dont believe or invest in them. And if mining coin X is no longer profitable, I switch to something else. Expect a similar behavior from master node operators.

Not everyone sees the world as you do.

Day-trading and coin-hopping are my idea of a wasted life. Busy, busy, busy, pushing all those tokens around. To each his own.                Wink

Im doing neither myself. My point is, I invested capital in mining equipment and look to get the best return. The coin that a script selects as most profitable, enables me to do that. Which one that is, doesnt interest me one bit, I probably know nothing about it. I just care about the daily mining revenue and convert that in to some currency I do believe in.

Im sure a lot of people see dash master nodes the same way, like mining machines that dont require a ton of running cost. Like Hashtakers and Prime controllers, remember those? You invest a non trivial amount of money, to get an expected x % ROI. Which works fine as long as dash value is stable and certainly if it goes up. Which it did for quite some time. Not surprising, if people have to buy 1000 dash per node, and today what, >70% of all Dash is in such nodes?
that must have created quite a lot of demand.

Anyway, at some point, the number of new master nodes will level off, as the ROI decreases and the required investment keeps going up. THis will dramatically reduce the demand for Dash, most likely resulting in a price drop. Now you have a problem. A lot of capital was invested in those nodes, owned by a lot of people who really dont care about Dash but did expect a high ROI. If just a tiny fraction of them begin pulling out, the price just has to tumble and cause a snowball effect, and I honestly dont see where the demand is going to come from to keep the price from utterly collapsing.
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is your trading strategy? on: December 22, 2016, 01:12:01 PM
Its really hard to be anything but "100%" accurate if you predict it could go either up or down.

And all you tea leave readers, the only thing you are trying to predict is... tea leave reading. If you'd all switch to using atmospheric pressure data in Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein (yes, that is a village in South Africe), instead of BTC exchange data, you'd get about the same result.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 22, 2016, 12:41:01 PM
Bitcoins where not bought in the hope of obtaining a bitcoin denominated profit. They where bought because people expected the currency itself to do well relative to its then current price. Well, in fairness, some where, like during Pirate's ponzi or a handful of clueless cloud miners, but thats very different than those master nodes, the bulk of which represent investments expecting a dash denominated profit, and so are much more comparable to an investment in mining equipment.  I mine all kinds of shit coins, but I dont believe or invest in them. And if mining coin X is no longer profitable, I switch to something else. Expect a similar behavior from master node operators.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 22, 2016, 10:07:42 AM
When just a dozen masternodes decide its time to cut their losses, thats enough volume to crash dash price on poloniex to ~zero. So if that masternode chart shows anything right now, then Id describe it as a ticking nuclear bomb.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 22, 2016, 09:19:00 AM
Sure it makes sense. Most dash are stored in master nodes. Acquiring those 1000 dash to be able to set up a master node is what mainly fueled its past bull run. That by itself further increased demand for dash to set up more masternodes, closing the loop. Those people didnt buy dash because "they believed", but because they expected a ~10-20% ROI on a rallying currency. Particularly compelling during a period where bitcoin was pretty stagnant.

But once the price starts going down for whatever reason, like a BTC rally, that ROI goes up in smoke and those same master node operators will run to the exits. Because they own so much of the currency, cause a snowball effect.  Especially when bitcoin is rallying.

As is, the masternode system creates its own price volatility, fueling bubbles on its way up, and in all likelihood, bloodbaths on its way down.

Its not off topic. If you are going to elect a "Global Moderator", voters may want to know where they stand on the issue, and I might add its arguably the single most important issue facing this forum. As for the crux of the matter; I argued it 5 years ago, that if you allow financial incentive for people to post for post count sake, this is precisely what you will get; moderation cant stop it, at most slow it down a bit, but people will push the boundary of what moderators allow, diluting content for post count sake. Signal/noise will drop, causing knowledgeable and interesting posters to leave, further lowering S/N until it snowballs out of control. Q.E.D.

Still seems to lurk, but hasnt posted in over a year.

etc, etc

These days, this forum is all noise, virtually no signal. Have fun moderating it.

Frankly, whats the point?

As long as forum rules allow monetization of signature space, 'pay per post' schemes, selling of accounts etc, no amount of moderation is going to make this forum worth reading again. I used to read most new threads, back in the day, before people created accounts to earn a few satoshi from their signature space, faucets, or to sell their high activity accounts later; these days I occasionally log in and click the unread thread link, only to find nothing but useless threads about gambling, pointless post bump newbie threads and similar. If there are still threads worth reading, I cant find them, and I cant be bothered to dig for them.

BTW, when I see staff selling their own signature space to gambling sites, what hope could there be?

17  Economy / Services / Re: looking for 3D artist for blender scene on: November 15, 2016, 09:36:52 AM
To give a better sense of what Im looking for, below some semi random google image search results that reflect scenes I find suitable:

I may not need the entire scene and all the details, as the final render will be a close up of the planter, but its the sort of luxury environment it should be put in, not a row house. These are big, and up market planter. A combination of model and background photo is perfectly acceptable, provided you have all the required licences to the photo's and of course, it looks convincing.

Also acceptable is a very simple scene, something like this:

But at least as convincing as the above render, and keeping in mind the planter is highly reflective, so you need an environment to reflect.
18  Economy / Services / Re: looking for 3D artist for blender scene on: November 15, 2016, 09:11:01 AM
Dont worry about my trust; my alt account was recently compromised, and I posted from this one to make that known. Ive since regained control of both accounts, but warned people I might not notice a next time it would be compromised since I rarely post here anymore. Someone gave me negative trust to reflect that, and I didnt complain. More info here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg16843412#msg16843412

For this, we could use escrow if you worry my account was hacked again. But I could think of better ways to monetize this account other than getting a free render Wink.

As for sketchup, someone else offered that too. I dont have access to vray for sketchup, so that would mean you'd have to do all the final renderings which I find less than ideal, but its a possibility. Thing is, I think I mostly need just an environment to put the planters in. The planters themselves are simple enough, and I think I got the materials pretty close now (waiting for some more photo's). But my attempts at making a convincing garden/pool are not very good Smiley.
19  Economy / Services / looking for 3D artist for blender scene on: November 15, 2016, 07:55:21 AM
Im looking for a 3D artist to provide a few renders or a (blender cycles) scene to show off some high end planters. The scene can be a modern garden or luxury apartment interior, it can be something you modeled earlier.

The planters themselves are very simple in geometry, I can provide plans and models, but the material is a bit more tricky: shiny and highly reflective messing, zinc and slightly translucent polyester. I can provide photo's.

The overall scene can be simple, with perhaps little more than some stone floor, grass, a wall and plants, but the result has to be absolutely photorealistic.

For reference, here is my own current, unfinished and totally unsatisfactory attempt in blender:

(in fairness, I was mostly learning blender and experimenting with particle systems etc doing this)

You can use something other than blender, if you have access to a higher end rendering engine, but I would prefer blender as it would allow me to render the scenes myself.

If you are interested, show me some relevant examples of your work and give me a price estimate.

I cant obviously. I didnt post that message, whoever hacked my account did. I removed the message you quoted.

I could probably do that, if I really wanted to (my wallet.dat is in seriously cold storage), but I dont see the point. What do you want me to prove, that Im the real P4man/puppet? What for? If you think I could be the hacker, having hacked both accounts, thats fine, at least you wont rely on the age and reputation of either account to trust it for escrow or whatever his intention was. Its the only reason I posted the warning when I figured out I could no longer log in to my puppet account. For the rest, Ive long lost interest in this forum.
