1061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Dangerous State of Bitcoin (.com) on: October 31, 2011, 11:40:46 PM
Tradehill, a business venture which has capitalized on the success of Bitcoins, has acquired bitcoin.com <link removed>

Due to the success of Tradehill's bitcoin.com "community aspect" or services, and due to Google's preference of a .com over .org, "bitcoin.com" takes first place for "bitcoin" searches.  This forces bitcoin.org to second place, and eventually third behind Wikipedia's own Bitcoin entry.

And by linking to bitcoin.com, you've just increased its Google juice.

If you do I'll keep reading!

Same here. I shouldn't have labeled myself as a novice, when I will hopefully leave the novice status behind shortly.
1064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: October 31, 2011, 11:32:29 PM
This is my 5th post. Does it make me any less newbie? Only one way to find out. Wink

EDIT: I guess not. Sad
You need to pass the 5 post threshold and be on the forums 4 hours.
1065  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: October 31, 2011, 11:31:33 PM
(Do I have five posts yet?)
You do.  /Cap'n Obvious.
1066  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [880 GH/s 0% fee SMPPS] ArsBitcoin mining pool! Come join us! on: October 31, 2011, 11:29:47 PM
All are welcome and all help
Thanks.  Right now I'm CPU mining with ufasoft as a learning exercise.  I'll have to get a video card if I want to take this seriously. Smiley    I did find 3 shares though in the first 15 min. mining.
1067  Bitcoin / Pools / p2pool - Decentralized, Absolutely DoS-Proof, Pool Hopping-Proof Pool [archival] on: October 31, 2011, 11:05:49 PM
This sounds like a *really* good idea, now we just need to think of how to get it off its feet.
1068  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [880 GH/s 0% fee SMPPS] ArsBitcoin mining pool! Come join us! on: October 31, 2011, 10:47:50 PM
Joined this pool with a painfully slow hash rate.  Here's to hoping I'll get lucky.
1069  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get out of here on: October 31, 2011, 09:04:20 PM
It's five posts, regardless of if they are new topics or replies to existing topics.
1070  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about Merkle tree on: October 31, 2011, 09:02:51 PM
(I know, chances are same..)
Unless being struck by lightning changed your behavior (i.e, never going outside during a storm, etc) then it might reduce the probability of you getting struck again.  /trollface :p
1071  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoinduit -- We're handing out Bitcoins. on: October 31, 2011, 08:53:42 PM
You're curious and I'm a novice.
1072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTCmon iPhone App - 5 free promo codes on: October 31, 2011, 07:56:03 PM
If you have any more promo codes, I'd be happy to give it a thorough try and rate it in the app store afterwards.
1073  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What web games do people know of that accept Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2011, 07:53:53 PM
Bitcoin Kamikaze is kinda addicting and I've won a couple bitcoins there.

Try it: http://bitcoin-kamikaze.com/?father=45378  (Full disclosure: if you follow this referral link I'll get a small percentage of your losses, if you lose)

Also you can play it without BTC as well, which is also entertaining.
1074  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All these new BitCoin clones? Your opinions? on: October 31, 2011, 07:50:14 PM
I think we should all put our time & energy toward making bitcoin work instead of diluting the effort chasing dozens of other dreams.
1075  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: October 31, 2011, 07:31:32 PM
If you're in it for the long haul and believe the that bitcoin will catch on as a mainstream currency/payment system, then I think you stand to make some impressing gains just by holding BTC.
1076  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoinduit -- We're handing out Bitcoins. on: October 31, 2011, 07:29:52 PM
Sure, but you already gave me one Sad
1077  Economy / Speculation / Re: I am the The Manipulator. on: October 31, 2011, 07:28:20 PM
@evolve  Keep writing please.
1078  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has anyone reported bitcoin capital gains or losses on their taxes? on: October 31, 2011, 07:27:41 PM
It's boringly simple.  Follow the laws of the land where you live concerning income / capital gains.  Full stop.
1079  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Time for another testnet reset? on: October 31, 2011, 05:10:37 PM
Having different rules make it seem more like an entirely different network than a testnet, it also makes it less effective as a test platform.  Would it be possible to automatically reset it once a week?
I am by no means an expert, but this sounds like a good idea to me.
1080  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin.it down? on: October 28, 2011, 05:14:25 PM
Thanks all!
It seems to be back up now Cheesy
It's up for me now too, but loads rather slowly.
