Thank you kindly. I missed that.

Any communication at all from them?
923  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator [v0.17] on: November 11, 2011, 04:08:21 PM
Would some one be interested in creating a 9 letter vanity address for a bounty? If so please PM

Also assuming you make the address for me, I would be able to use it with out too much trouble?

Thanks
It would need to be someone trustworthy, as they would also have access to the private key associated with it, no?

If BTC were as widely accepted/used as, say, CAD, why would you expect to see more fluctuation in BTC than you currently do in CAD?

Because the supply of BTC is limited, unlike CAD. The value of BTC will necessarily have to rise as more people adopt it to make room for everyone.
The supply is finite, but for the near future, the supply will continue to increase at a predictable rate.  It seems to me if bitcoin was widely used, we would see a slow, steady deflation, but I don't see why there would be huge fluctuations (up and down).

Why would you log in from a proxy?  Is your account verified?
926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: StrongCoin.com just published a method to generate off-line transactions on: November 11, 2011, 03:52:06 PM
That looks very handy.
927  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [PULL] private key and wallet export/import on: November 11, 2011, 03:48:00 PM
Just to make sure I understand, the index would be to look up a bitcoin address and get all the blocks that that address has transactions in, so only those blocks would need to be scanned for transactions to add to your wallet, correct?

Why did they limit your account?

This looks quite interesting (watching topic)

Any delivery date projections currently?
I'm interested in the answer to this question.

What we need is millions of users and hundreds of thousands of service/product providers all willing to accept and spend the cryptocurrency. Problem solved.

I've seen this said a few times, but I don't see why this should be true. I would expect to see big movements in a cryptocurrency even if it became widely accepted.

If BTC were as widely accepted/used as, say, CAD, why would you expect to see more fluctuation in BTC than you currently do in CAD?
933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Instant POS on: November 10, 2011, 11:19:55 PM
This is a good idea.  The QR code (or some other machine-readable code) could also be printed out on slips of paper (and you could carry around a bunch of them with different amounts of BTC) and held up to a scanner as an alternative to having a smartphone client.
934  Other / Meta / Re: Add an "Auctions" board under Market place and disallow editing posts there on: November 10, 2011, 11:12:52 PM
If you do this you might also want to add a sticky in the new Auctions forum noting that posts are not editable, so that auction starters think carefully about how they set up the rules for their auction in the first post (since they can't edit), and so that other viewers take care to read the entire thread (and any "clarification" posts by the OP) before bidding.
935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin commercial on: November 10, 2011, 11:01:47 PM
Ideas?

Show a child progressing through different stages of their development where Mom/Dad buy/sell things for them on the Internet. They buy a nice Play House toy for toddler, then a bike when they're older.  They sell the play house on eBay when they are older still, etc.  End with a call from patagonia or somewhere when they are 20 and backpacking around the world. They are calling because they need money to get home.  Mom/Dad gets on the Internet and sends them money so they can get home. ....  Then have a big round golden bitcoin that comes up from the bottom right of the screen and centers in the middle, and positioned around the coin are stillshots showcasing the child from each of the previous buy/sell/send money scenarios.  A voice-over says something like: "Buying, selling, or sending money-- when it matters most, Bitcoin will get the job done securely, quickly, without hassles and generally no fees." Voice continues: "Bitcoin is a secure, decentralized payment system*** that opens up worlds of possibilities. To learn more, visit weusecoins.com".

Something like that, anyways.

weusecoins.com would need to have a landing page that has a simple step-by-step layout:

1. Download this program.
2. Add some bitcoins to your balance *
3. Start using your bitcoins **

* Have an "official" not-for-profit service on weusecoins.com where you can deposit cash in an account at any of the world's major banks (in most countries) to get bitcoins.

** Have a list of mainstream merchants/services that accept bitcoins, as well as places to earn bitcoins, such as auction sites

*** I like the term "Payment system" because that's the easiest for people to understand.  I think the terms "currency", "money", "barter" etc, would just turn people off.

Auctions where people can edit their posts cause trouble...

If we had a separate forum for auctions where no one can edit their posts, it would help, methinks.  Wink

They are being extorted by the owner of the website "casascius dot net", which was a scam website a few days back. They got to scam several people already.

What help would you be able to give that can't be done in a direct email to casascius?
Perhaps he's the owner of .net version of the domain?
I don't need to prove anything. Contact him directly if you won't let me in. The last thing I want is to get questioned just for trying to help.

I apologize for my comment. I guess it was uncalled for.
938  Economy / Economics / Re: Properties a crypto-currency requires in order to be self-stabilizing on: November 10, 2011, 09:42:48 PM
My recent discussion about Encoin got me wondering what properties a crypto-currency would require in order to be self-stabilizing.
What we need is millions of users and hundreds of thousands of service/product providers all willing to accept and spend the cryptocurrency. Problem solved.
939  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have funds at VirWox - how do I send to a bitcoin address? on: November 10, 2011, 09:21:15 PM
Thank you very much for the detailed response Smiley

I believe I currently only have a balance in USD though, not SLL. The exchange BTC/SLL page says "You currently do not have enough money in your account to actually place an order.", which I assume is because I don't have any SLL.

How do I convert my USD balance to SLL? I'm confused by the nature of the site, and didn't really grasp what I was getting into with this SLL business Smiley
First click on USD/SLL and buy SLL with your USD.  Then follow the rest of avoid3d's instructions.

I don't think they are.
