341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [800,000 DVC remaining bounty] for Devcoin preliminary testing on: December 21, 2011, 05:34:56 PM
Is there an compiled binary of devcoind for Linux (ubuntu) anywhere?

http://pool.devcoin.org/files/daemons/

you can also find bitcoind, namecoind, geistgeldd, litecoind, & solidcoind binaries there

there were all compiled on
Linux 104 2.6.18-274.3.1.el5.028stab094.3PAE i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Thanks!

Independence of concerns would go a long way to accelerate development and experimentation. Personally, I'd like to host the bitcoind south of the polar circle, pay someone for the service, or more trivially have a single standard bitcoind on a shared host (/var). A lot of the web clients and mobile apps seem to be recreating a wheel that shouldn't have needed to be recreated. If the blockchain and index is too big, slow, or bandwidth too expensive, then we should outsource the responsibility.
This.  The daemon should have nothing to do with wallets.  It should relay transactions, download new blocks, and maintain a local copy of the block chain along with needed indexes.
343  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Now Here: Casascius 1000 BTC Fine Gold Coin on: December 21, 2011, 03:01:56 PM
Very nice, but doesn't the very existence of these threaten the adoption of Bitcoin? Two years ago you could have made a 1 Million BTC coin and all 7 of you would now enjoy Bitcoin trading. There is a need for physical Bitcoin, but where do you draw the line?
The bitcoins from it can be redeemed and traded.  And there is a big difference between 1000 and 1000000.  And what is the difference between buying 1000 BTC and storing them in this coin or storing them in wallet.dat on your computer?

I'm not seeing the problem, unfortunately.

Excellent job Mike!

Are you starting a new auction?  If so, I'd suggest you start a new thread for it.

No reason it has to be a PDF for printing it.  A PNG image would work just as well.

Okay, I have added advertising using OperationFabulous. Here's my bitcoin address: 12sjCiDCEiqdAKbzfrf91mqGthJ8ddMzd8  Thanks!

Thanks for the advertising and for mirroring.

I sent 40 BTC and provisionally I will in turn get 4 extra generation shares in round 7.  If anyone wants up to 4 extra shares, I will trade them at 10 BTC/share, until block 24,500.  The round 7 receiver file will be made at around block 25,000.

The round 7 bounty file is at:
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/bounty_7.csv
Thank you, bounty received.

From the bounty update:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg614316#msg614316

The basic wiki gets 20 bitcoin, and adding advertising gets another 20 bitcoin.  Once you've added advertising, and just the adsense sidebar is sufficient, post that and a bitcoin address and I'll send you 40.  If you don't want to add advertising, post a bitcoin address and I'll send 20.

In another post:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg654190#msg654190

to get the second maintenance share, please mirror the primary devtome:
http://www.devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

If anyone else else makes a devtome wiki, you'll get 1/4 of the bounty.  However, we really don't need a fourth wiki, so please contribute to devtome instead:

350  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [PULL] private key and wallet export/import on: December 19, 2011, 08:27:51 PM
Key import/export has just been merged for 0.6.

Wallet import/export needs a bit of work still, so is delayed.

Key removal support has been dropped, because of too many dangerous side-effects on wallets (in particular in combination with accounts). I'm willing to maintain this as a separate branch, though.

This is great news!  This is only import/export of keys, right (not sweeping and sending funds to a new key)?
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer - LTC/FBX/TBX on: December 19, 2011, 08:26:08 PM
I heard rumours about so called "dark pool" that (probably) made 51% attack. Now with improved miner we have more chances to survive such kind of attack. That's good news.
Irrelevant.  The "dark pool" can use the improved miner as well.

Why the hell we have been using unoptimized miners for 2 months?

Laziness? Conspiracy?
Umm, nobody had taken it upon themselves to further optimize the miner?  No conspiracy theories here.
352  Economy / Services / Re: 10.3Gh 30 day mining contract available on: December 19, 2011, 08:24:05 PM
Hello fellow bitcoiners,

I would like to offer a 10.3Gh 30 day mining contract for 250 BTC. As you can see from avatar, I have the hashing power to rent.   Grin

If you are on a pool with merged mining and PPS payout, this contract should return 6% at the next estimated difficulty, 3% for merged mining and 3% for the discount I am offering. So if you are running on a lucky pool, who knows....

Payment will be made in full before the start of mining.

Any interruptions in services will be dealt with fairly and added to the end of the contract.

My credentials:

WOT rating -> http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=gigavps
Rig building cred -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=51350.0
More cred -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=44767.0

PM me or reply to this thread to get started mining without the hassle of building rigs, dealing with heat or a hefty electric bill.

EDIT: Q&A

Q: Will you split the hashing power into small contracts?
A: No.

Q: Will you accept a smaller payment up front and the rest later into the contract?
A: No.

gigasvps, not really any of my business, just curious, but I'm trying to understand the reason for doing this if you could make more BTC by simply running the rigs?

My reason is that I have other ventures that require capital that make me money also. By pulling revenue forward, it allows me to utilize this capital more efficiently allowing me to make up the 3% discount on the money up front and ultimately allowing me to make more money than I would have otherwise.

It is really a win-win as Goat can utilize the hashing power to make a profit and I get the capital i need to move other ventures forward.

Thanks Goat!  Cheesy

Per our agreement, Goat has paid 215 BTC upfront with the remaining 35 btc to be paid during the remainder of the contract at an interest rate of 3.5% per week.

The contract was started at 6:30am EST on Monday December 12, 2011 and will continue until 6:30am EST on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

If I missed anything, let me know, otherwise, happy mining.

I just want to quote this so it can not be edited later. Thanks.
Quoted again for double no-editing. :p

Twice as many hashes per second would by 100% better, not 50% better, no?
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer - LTC/FBX/TBX on: December 19, 2011, 06:16:48 PM
I went from 6.20 MH/s to 6.52 MH/s on my AMD box.  Not a *huge* improvement, but I'll definitely take it. Smiley  I'll test on an Intel box next.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer - LTC/FBX/TBX on: December 19, 2011, 04:37:04 PM
I'll give this a try.

btw , is that address http://deepbit.net:8332/  stays the same ?
I imagine so.
358  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Patching The Bitcoin Client To Make It More Anonymous on: December 19, 2011, 04:16:38 PM
+1 - it's not just for anonymity, it's also a look under the hood at addresses, which helps when explaining how bitcoin works.
This is an important aspect of it.

No problem.
