81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GENSTAKE - G3N - POW/POS on: October 21, 2015, 04:43:50 AM
What would you think of a hard fork to a new POW algorithm?  Scrypt has a higher barrier of entry than gpu only algos.  I think Lyra2REv2 (what Vert and Mona use) would make this an awesome coin.

A alternative algo like Lyra2REv2 would be pretty great actually, it's a cool algo and not a ton of coins are on it currently.
I think it would be a good idea because then people can't hit the PoW with huge asic hashrates.  Fairer distribution of PoW will make more people interested in this coin.

There are only 4 coins on Lyra2REv2 that I know about.  Vert, Mona, MobileCash, and LyraBar.  Vert and Mona are both large cap coins that forked to this algo.  LyraBar is a small cap coin sold only on c-cex with no volume there today.  MobileCash is the most interesting new Lyra2REv2, because it is an AUXPOW coin, but it is only sold on c-cex.  MobileCash (MBL) gets merge mined when mining VTC or MONA on xpool.ca pool and you can set a deposit address for it if you edit account settings and sign the message with the settings that it gives you with your windows wallet that has your account address.

The biggest problem with MobileCash is that it has a huge premine so no other exchanges will list it.  I think that forking G3N to be Lyra2REv2 and enabling AUXPOW would make this coin very interesting.

My friend lost btc and xmg on gorilla.exchange and the response was it closed because it got DDOSed.  He never touched an igotspots coin.  Don't other exchanges get DDOSed every day and not disappear with depositor's coins?

Directbet is actually running a poll to know which cryptocurrency that can add to their service. I've proposed Magi, I hope they'll add it to the poll. I'll keep you in touch with the latest news Wink !

That would be huge.  Sports betting is a good use for crypto.  More uses for the coin will add value.  I won dogecoins on directbet for the money mayweather fight.  Only time I ever made a sports bet  Grin

Can somebody PM me about compiling wallet/minerd across several UNIX like systems? I see the first reply has a small guide but I'm getting with an error about GMP, it says I have the package but when I go to configure it errors on GNU MP. I'll probably post my steps if I can get it working easily.

Did you see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg11977962#msg11977962

I thought someone told me that they followed it and got it to work on UNIX

what a bad luck 2 months 2 stake 2 orphans Smiley

Did you use the "repairwallet" command in the console?  You should be able to get those transactions staking again.  How many connections do you have?  I have 24 connections right now.  You can use the "addnode <ip> add" to add more.

I believe that new features to the app will make this coin better and the price rise.

Do you guys think it would be possible to add new features specifically designed for running?  Maybe add some kind of route timing using GPS information so people can see if they are running the same route slower or faster.  Make GPS permissions optional because this might turn off some people.

I did try to get some new people interested in installing the new app, but the low price definitely hurts the potential of recruiting new members.  One suggestion that I think would work for increasing the daily payout would be to add a feature where in-app advertisements could be shown.  These could be optional as well.  If the advertisements were turned on, then miners could be rewarded more MGZ for the same amount of mining using the the advertising revenue.

i made a vps miner for fun..
but i cannot understand why people mine this?
i cannot get any profit from this: time to setup miner cost me more than it ever makes coins to me.
vps cost more than magi makes.
cpu uses more power than magi makes you??
explain me please?

pure botnet coin?

Magi has a variable block reward that is based on difficulty.  When the network hashrate goes up, the difficulty goes up and the rewards go down.  You can look at a graph of this (https://bauerj.eu/xmg/).  The higher the hashrate, the less profitable it is to mine.  That is how the coin is designed.  Setting your cpu to mine at 100% is probably not a good idea, unless you have free power.  Some people do have free power, like if electric is included in their rent, but all coins have this problem.  I don't have free power, but am currently mining magi with a target cpu usage of 10% even though the network hash is very high and the block reward is only 1 XMG.  Even if my power costs are not zero, the cost to me for this mining at this cpu usage is very low because I am doing other things with my computer like having staking wallets open for different coins, I am writing this here, I am gpu mining or I am using my computer for playing games.  The additional cost of electricity for using 10% cpu compared to 0% is how you should be doing the power calculation.  Magi is not a coin where you can buy a lot of hardware, throw a bunch of hashrate at mining, and expect to make a profit.  It was specifically designed NOT to let you do this.

One more question:
Is there any possibility to increase the intensity of the miner?

At the moment I use cpuminer v2 with the following instructions: minerd-x64-corei7 -a m7mhash -o stratum+tcp://xmg.suprnova.cc:7128 -u username.workername -p password.

It's using all CPU Cores at 100 %  but maybe there is a possibility to stress them a bit more?

CPU is a i7 3630QM Ivy Bridge

The sweetspot miner (xmg.makejar.com) uses cpuminer v2 but can read the block reward information and adjust the cpu % based on the block reward.  It is MUCH more profitable to mine 20 XMG reward blocks then it is 1 XMG reward blocks.  Set it up so much less cpu is used for low rewards and have it go back up to 100% for higher block rewards.  I have my reward target set to 10 XMG and it seems like it still uses the higher cpu % if rewards are over 6, but when the rewards fall farther cpu usage goes back to 10%.

I love the new app!  There are two issues I am having.  The first issue is that when I try to send coins from the old orange app to the new app all I can get is a message ":S".  The second issue is that the passive mining in economy mode is not working for me.  The timer will go to about 90% and then it will stop and I have to restart the timer.  The active mode is working great for me, but it would also be nice to mine mangoz when my phone is on the charger.

The only possible benefit to large blocks is better liquidity.  Small blocks for me all the way!

Hey guys,

I'm new to magi and have got some questions.

I'm using cpuminer v2 with my Intel Core i7 3630QM which is doing about 70 Kh/s - ist this setup okay so far?

I'm looking for a mining calclulation site and a hardware comparison site - could someone please help me?

What would be the estimated outcome (Kh/s) of 4x Intel Six-Core Xeon E7450 6x 2.4GHz? (yes I mean 4 real CPU's)

Estimated outcome is hard to predict with magi because the reward goes down as the difficulty goes up.  If there is too much network hashrate the rewards fall even if you throw more hash on it.  4 XMG - 80 XMG is probably a fair estimate.  Use sweetspot miner and you can set cpu usage targets for different rewards.  I wouldn't suggest mining 100% unless the rewards are high, but if you power is free you can.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [XPOOL.CA][Multipool] x11 | sha256 | scrypt | lyra2REv2 - KNC Titans/Large GPUs on: October 14, 2015, 08:53:41 PM
Lyra2REv2 pool is doing well although it could probably use a few more miners to make it more competitive with the other vertcoin pools.  Any updates on making it so I can use coinbase to sign signatures?  Downloading a wallet that doesn't stake just so I have the ability sign messages to change settings sounds like a lot of work.
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LiteDoge - such Community coin | no premine | very fast | much profit on: October 14, 2015, 08:44:41 PM
LDOGE is fun just like it is now.  I would love for the price to go up to 100 sats just because, but I don't think reducing the stake rewards will do that.  Why?  I simply don't believe in supply side economics.  The plan to cut stake rewards is like cutting taxes for the top 1% and expecting the rewards to trickle down to everyone else.  This is otherwise known as "voodoo economics" (thanks Bush!)

Demand side economics are what is important.  Reducing supply will reduce the demand that is currently there, because people buy into a high % stake coin because they want to stake high.  People that are currently buying now won't want to buy if they can't stake high.  I don't hear a lot of people chiming in that if the rewards get reduced they are going to drop 10 BTC buying LDOGE if the rewards get reduced.  Assuming that the demand will go up or stay the same if the supply is reduced is not a valid assumption.   Cool

That sucks.  Good thing i sold enough of mine to not lose any money if they went bust... but I did keep enough for a mini miner if it did work out.  It really shouldn't have been that hard to deliver a mini usb x11 miner.  I think it was the "cloud chip" feature on the big miners that doomed the project.

You know nobody cared when I pointed out what the guy was doing with Memory coin eh..
He went on to make PTS and then Bitshares etc etc..
You guys single out people for bad behavior then turn a complete blind eye to all the others doing the same or worse.
THAT is my point around here lately.
You make it sound like iGotSpots is the 1 evil scammer guy around here and in the other topic touting "Scam"
you guys mentioned "Balls" ..the coin.
But.. he just did what other guys were doing (before him)

> [HYP] Let's take a closer look at HyperStake HYPER SCAM

see that ? it's just like the evil scam coin "Balls"
..but you guys are avoiding it.
hmm maybe you are the crew of HYPE guys bashing on him ?

By the way the Memory Coin thing was prob the worst coin I seen in crypto.. rigged to make the dev rich
so he could supposedly donate to charity then he got pissy when he lost control of the scam via majority rule
then he closed the scam and started a brand new coin called PTS (Protoshares) then later when he bought up worthless Memorycoin's
he revived the coin after killing it off and then he abandoned it again and worked on Bitshares..
and funny enough so called "Scam" dev's hang out here pulling shit like that 24/7 but you guys only single out 1 coin dev.
why is that ?

Playing the victim attitude and other devs did this scam first so it is ok makes people salty.  Reputation has value.

lol yeah that rat bastard presstab has a long list of people that want to lynch his ass, right? FAIL.

Some devs that can't code think they can just promote their way to riches.  If all the devs that could code were lynched, there would be no one left but copy paste scam devs like igotspots ;-)

My friend lost btc and xmg at the gorilla.exchange when it closed and ran off with all the coins.  IGotSpots is definitely a scammer.  I would post negative ratings but because I am just a normal user and only post on this site a few times a month I can't.  I have seen enough scams and have been warned to not invest in any Igotspots coins by many people, none of them being on the list of people he claims are spreading lies about him.  Although he will probably claim that this is a clone account....it is not.  I have never invested in a single one of his coins, but I really don't like him.  He is a bully and a sociopath.  He should be banned from this forum because he makes locked threads which causes new people to be sucked into the scam because they don't realize how bad he really is.  Banning him would cause the next 1000 scam coins he releases to get less publicity.

Hi
can i just correct you about gorilla.exchange
Spots NEVER had access to any of he coins on the exchange  MP-Hosting ran the exchange  not him.
It was closed due to the DDOS attack issues.

Closed means then return the coins.  When you screw over people in other coin communities that don't even have anything to do with your coins it is no wonder everyone thinks you scam.
