Not to state the obvious, but mtgox appears to be as manipulated a market as the NYSE is. I suspect a few people with a majority of the cash on the exchange are playing with it like their private toy.

I'd like to see other price discovery tools being used by the community but I hold out little hope of that happening.

Definition of manipulation and evidence of such please?

Just because some people can trade with more $$$ than you doesn't make it manipulation.

Thats no turning point yet. Only a little upwardish triangle inside a larger down trend. No relevant trends broken and no SELLING volume much more prominent then BUYING volume. I expect this to go down further, somewhere just above 10$.

i guess it depends on what happens today.

if the market is still bullish ( once people stop DUMPING :p ), last night was bottom... at least for a good while

Seems like going below 11 will happen again today for sure. Only the true beliefs of true believers of bitcoins strengths over the long term is bullish for them. Short term things have gone downhill in so many ways.

So buy some bitcoins for speculation or drugs/gambling but that is about it. Investing has resulted in total mayhem for the most part.

My investment is doing OK...

buying at a low price and cherry picking the time frame is awesome!
how about justifying buying right now at 11?
do you really expect the price to be 20 this spring?
more then likely it will be dead money for the next 6 months if you are lucky.

How do you figure I cherry picked a time frame?  The article listed 3 of the most common time frames...

Bitcoin Ends Month Up 22%, Quarter Up 85%, YTD 2012 Now Up 162%

I think you would have to cherry pick time frames in order to see a downtrend.

This is just like the dumps from late August and September 1st this year.  The Bitcoin bull will keep marching up and up and up.

let us not forget that for americans, it's a holiday so the banks are closed. tuesday might be rather dramatic as a result.

If you subtract the weekends from the price sentiment, I think you'll find a mild bear.

A long term price chart discounting market movements over the weekend would be very interesting.

Bitfloor has indeed resumed trading. My official statement on the matter is here:
https://plus.google.com/109620439233076225324/posts/bLJRDHApjSP

More generally https://blog.bitfloor.com will contain official updates.

If you have specific questions please contact support@bitfloor.com and I will gladly respond.

Any reasonable way for you to prove these claims?  Or someway for users to verify these claims themselves (this would be even better)

..."In reopening, a number of improvements to both the wallet storage and website have been made. Bitfloor aims to be safe and reliable platform and as a result have changed our fund storage policy to 100% offline storage for your funds. Daily transactions through out hot wallet will be backed by Bitfloor funds, never putting client funds at risk."...

..."Bitfloor is now running on dedicated servers in a PCI compliant data center based in the US. Bitfloor services are further isolated based on exposure. Testnet and development are not located in the same data center or hosting provider to ensure further isolation. Backups are encrypted and write only on all of the servers. Hot wallet files are encrypted even further and unavailable even with physical access to the disk."...

Please?

New security continues to be unverified...

There are no reasonable ways for many of your questions to be verified. The production and testnet separation can be confirmed through a traceroute on the respective domains.

I welcome suggestions for reasonable ways in which you believe your requests can be confirmed without compromising user identities, trading activity, or balances.

Smarter people could help me out here if I dont know what I'm talking about, but how about these ideas:

In order to prove "...changed our fund storage policy to 100% offline storage for your funds. Daily transactions through out hot wallet will be backed by Bitfloor funds, never putting client funds at risk." You could sign messages from both the Bitfloor wallet and the customer funds wallet or at least show a picture of what you used to make the offline wallet or the offline wallet itself.

In order to prove "Bitfloor is now running on dedicated servers in a PCI compliant data center based in the US." you could show some sort of recipt from said data center.

In order to prove "Backups are encrypted and write only on all of the servers." why not just host them publicly?  If they are properly encrypted it shouldn't be an issue and I believe with some cyrtpo hash magic a person should be able to verify their own details are in the backup without others being able to break it.

Were these bad ideas?

The title says it all. Our favorite magazine talks about it here
http://bitcoinmagazine.net/butterfly-labs-offers-lifetime-warranty-asic-competition-surges-on/

Why wouldnt they announce this sooner?  Why wait until now to tell customers they will be getting a warranty?  Did BFL doubt that they could offer this warranty at some point?
448  Economy / Speculation / Re: How low will we go? on: October 05, 2012, 12:08:47 PM
How much further are we going to go down?  Huh

This post will mark the bottom.  This weekend will surprise everyone to the extreme upside.

Annnnnnnd...... CRASH!!

What?  Where?  We will be at $14 by the weekend.
450  Other / Off-topic / Re: Question for BFL - "Little SCs" Jalapenos and Preorders on: October 04, 2012, 05:55:01 PM
I just had 2 Jalapenos ordered, ordered within the first week. I was perfectly happy with that order until the spec jump left Jals a tad in the dust, and would now prefer to pay extra for a Little SC, but don't want to get shoved to the back of the line for such as said.

To be clear, you could upgrade your 4 Jals to a Little SC but the 2 Jals were left as Jals, right? They told me 4 Jals was the minimum for an upgrade not effecting the order queue.

Im in the same boat as you.  I ordered 3 Jals one the first or second day they were available... now I feel a bit screwed.

Are we past the point of guaranteeing orders placed today being in the first batch?

You spend all your time obsessed with Bitcoin, yet you claim to hate the very people who are responsible for its existence.

Take your hate elsewhere plzkthxbai.

I don't disagree entirely and I am sorry I didn't buy more when it was $5.50

I hope people realize that they'll soon be saying "I'm sorry that I didn't buy more when it was $13".

We could run through the $13 and $14 levels so fast too.

Should be a fun week!
457  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: October 02, 2012, 07:30:23 PM
Gold and silver are going to go under their lows from 5 days ago (~1740 or ~34), but not below major support at ~1650 or ~30, before continuing to higher highs.

Just thought I should put one of my predictions to the test as well as bashing Cypher's Tongue
458  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Silver half dollars - 3 on: October 02, 2012, 05:46:52 PM
Thanks to waterskeer!

payment made, coins are getting shipped this afternoon.

Transaction ID?

Lol, you don't believe I sold 'em or what?  I guess I don't understand why you want proof of the transaction.  Maybe I'm manufacturing rep?  I just gon't get it...

Anyway, here's the tx id:
 80c6fee984f9dce02b24f4150a19cc87814fe53bd94734ad840a6a04f7d96c9d

And I'll post a delivery confirmation number too once it ships...

From my POV the whole post seemed strange and the thought that you were manufacturing rep did in fact cross my mind.

Dont mean to discourage your transactions, just doing some bored posting and trying to keep the BTC/Silver market free from scammers, the more silver posted here the better!

They are done for. I bet they "hacked" themselves and then claimed "hack!" then pretended like they wanted to continue business and then quietly leaves.

LOL brilliant.

Or whatever issue Roman had two days before popped up again. Love all the jumping to doomsday conclusions around here.

He could calm lots of the anxitety if he wanted to, but he is choosing not to.
