763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Recent spike in output volume on blockchain: Breakout imminent? on: May 10, 2012, 08:44:13 PM
Yeah, it went down a bit and I can tell you why. They send so much spam into the block chain that many transactions don't confirm for days, so people stop playing.
Hopefully this madness will stop, or at least they should be paying the fee of 0.0005 for every transaction.

Also, on May 8 someone posted some martingale scripts to play at SatoshiDice, so people were experimenting with them for sure Cheesy

For BTC to become popular the network needs to figure out how to deal with "this much spam"...

They deal with it already. It's called a fee, in the value of 0.0005 BTC. If there is no fee, there is no guarantee the transaction will confirm, when it's low value and with inputs coming from recent outputs

Well SatoshiDice was already sending fees with every TX...
764  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: May 10, 2012, 08:43:12 PM
You all seemed to have neglected how much of a store of value BTC is if say.. The grid goes down.  Its worth about as much as any paper/electronic assets will be worth in a sustained grid outage, which is basically Zero...  A roll of silver coins and a couple firearms.  They have value even when the Electricity is off..

Silver/Gold bugs always bring this up.  Being a Bitcoinbug myself, I dont think we will ever see an event in which the entire global "grid" goes down for any significant amount of time.

Is there a general consensus among goldbugs on how likely an event like that is to happen?

How likely do you think an event like that is to happen?

766  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 10, 2012, 08:31:14 PM
If they have significantly changed the service (Such as making it require validation before rolling) it would have been nice to have an official message on here, or on the site saying "By the way, we had to change the following to protect ourselves from cheating"

Because yeah, the added delays have made it much more complicated to execute any kind of betting strategy at all.
Well, all I can tell you is that yet two days ago I was able to do few bets (one after loosing another) within one block.
And today I need to wait till my transaction get mined, plus few more extra minutes, to get my bet answered.

Plus, obviously they had a problem with double-spending cheating.
In fact I was thinking about cheating like this myself Tongue
But I did not have to, since I was eventually always winning after all.

So I'm glad they fixed it and the service will not get insolvent, because I actually like it.
Even though it's much less responsive now. Sad

I love the service, and certainly dont want to see it be cheated... but I wont use it anymore if its not 'instant'... it completely kills the fun for me... I cant wait multiple blocks to finish 1 martingale round...

This has such HUGE potential... I really hope the SatoshiDice operators figure out how to make it work as intended.
Well, the only way to make it instant would be to deposit your funds into their wallet and play with them then.
Accepting bitcoin transactions without confirmations, acting upon it, is like shouting out "steal my money!" Smiley
I don't think they can do anything "to make it work as intended" - it's just how bitcoin is designed; you must not trust any transaction that has not been mined into the chain. If you do, you are screwed - sooner or later.

I would be happy to make an account and deposit funds to play
...
but then I would have to trust the site operators alot more than I do now...shit...

EDIT: Not that I dont trust the operators... just that a lot of the value in a service like this is the fact that you dont have to trust the operators.

Fortunately, hard drive space, bandwidth, and processing power has not proven to be one of them.
...so let's abuse the fuck out of it.

Welcome to growth?
769  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 09, 2012, 07:42:41 PM
Im waiting on a few right now as well.
770  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 09, 2012, 11:31:17 AM
Also got the problem that some of my "Wins" didnt make it.. i have 4 transactions that are unconfirmed for 4 days now..

yeah i realised it's not the first time for me either... some others around 0.01 and 0.03 that just disappeared yesterday.

i think i'll quit til i get this 0.5 tx sorted... what are the support channels? do i need to sign up to twitter or something?

I hope I never have to use twitter...
771  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 65,000x winning on: May 09, 2012, 01:47:17 AM
So I keep thinking that some of my bets never show up at the site...

Is there an easy way to see just your bets?
772  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: PHP martingale bot for satoshiDICE on: May 09, 2012, 01:36:10 AM
I love Satoshidice.  Fun as hell.  That being said... Scripting a -EV game is bad news...lol
773  Economy / Goods / Re: (WTS) Xbox 360 on: May 09, 2012, 12:56:35 AM
I do not have a working power cord for this xbox, hence the selling, you would need to find a power cable that fits.

Will this work?

Working power brick from a RROD Xbox. I'll ship it for 4 BTC (upfront/escrowed).

Nope.  My female power port has a post in the same spot as your male.  Thats gay... lol
774  Economy / Speculation / Re: base price under $5 club on: May 08, 2012, 11:36:07 PM
Why would I trade my super rare sword of awesome for worthless "credits"?
because that's the only way for buyers to trade with other players. the developers will probably put in some restrictions so you cant trade using an external currency.

What?  How can a game stop me from trading BTC...
775  Economy / Speculation / Re: base price under $5 club on: May 08, 2012, 11:32:49 PM
most blizzard fans are getting old! around what 20-30ish
older gamers are more likely to understand the glory that is bitcoin
20-30ish year old's are looking to invest!
bitcoin is perfect for trading in game items ( ebay dont want that shit, paypal charge backs... )
bitcoin will have a good size diablo3 market from day one ( many people here are going to be playing )
new gamers that start trading with bitcoins are in for a treat ( lets face it, bitcoin is fun!   Wink )
if this goes well a Good MMORPG made to use bitcoin In-game will become a huge selling point.
in a few years bitcoin might become a standard for MMORPG's in game trading?
lolno.

developers will always want to implement their own monetary system so they can get income for selling worthless "credits"

Why would I trade my super rare sword of awesome for worthless "credits"?
776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 20,000 transactions - New Bitcoin Network Record on: May 08, 2012, 11:25:39 PM
How many threads on the rising transaction count do we have to make?

I think there have been two or three addressing the recent spike. Seems reasonable to me. You're welcome to not make another one if they are bothering you.

As a passionate troll I felt tempted to follow that invitation Wink

I'm surprised to see people cheer for joy rather than to debate if SatoshiDice is a problem for Bitcoin. For me it seems unfair that the block size limits and resulting fees only compensate the miners that mine exactly those blocks while all miners ever after will have to deal with that pay load.

What do you mean by all miners ever after will have to deal with that pay load?
777  Economy / Goods / (WTS) Xbox 360 on: May 08, 2012, 10:46:07 PM
I have an Xbox 360 that I would like to take offers on.  You would be bidding on the xbox console, A/V cables, and power brick/cables.  I do not have a working power cord for this xbox, hence the selling, you would need to find a power cable that fits.

Any interest/offers?

I would only accept BTC up front or with an escrow.

EDIT: I bought a tested/working power supply from a friend locally.  Bumping this thread to try and sell my Xbox.  Offers?

EDIT 2: It also has the hard drive that came with it originally.  I didnt realize some xboxs didnt have HDDs.
778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: May 08, 2012, 08:52:28 PM
The long-term bubble downtrend has already been broken 3x, and continues to grind sideways even with ~30% base inflation.

FTFY
779  Economy / Speculation / Re: base price under $5 club on: May 08, 2012, 08:50:52 PM
If you're base price isn't already under $5, it looks like you'll get another chance to lower it by a nice amount soon.  Selling pressure is growing, I think.

4.9 coming soon to an exchange near you!

UHH,,, no?

we are going to fall to 3.8 some time next month ( crazy falling knife of death style )

you mad?

It would make me sad, not mad.  But its not going to happen so Ill be happy!

I hope you haven't sold all your BTC...
