I'm impressed that this is still going.

What the heck...

Okay, this is an honest question: How could GPUmax generate serious revenue?

"shares", or hashes to solve the next block, already have a price, denominated as a fraction of a block of 50BTC. That fraction of a bitcoin already has a price set on MtGox. Who would pay more for your shares than you would get by submitting them to a pool?

Good, question and i don't know the answer,.
[..]

My question still stands. Can anyone shed some light on the GPUmax "marketplace" for me?

Some people (Who? Pirate himself? SR? Jimmy Hoffa?) pay a premium for vanilla coins. That's the theory.
863  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Putting your money where Pirate's mouth is. on: July 12, 2012, 10:59:16 PM
With this I can probably finish it whenever I want by just making another ruckus and then posting a full explanation.

I'm serious, I wouldn't mind closing the thread now. It's the right moment, more posts don't add to it.

I generally agree with your opinions on BTCST. But really, can you get any more arrogant than this?

Okay, what formulation do you want? I'll just remove that line.

Maged and Pirate said it. Gpumax is outputting BS&T coins, with a fat profit margin on top. What purpose can that possibly serve, burning coins? Laundering money by inserting it into BS&T?

What do you propose we do? Feel free to go on a rampage, the amount of coins we can save will not change. And if we decide that in here, Pirate knows and takes counter-measures, such as just locking everything.

I'm sorry I was arrogant, feel free to propose a better course of action now. Huh

That works.

Also, "P****" was a joke. Might want to check your sarcasm dectector again.

(...) whether or not it is a P****.

 Roll Eyes

I'm serious, I wouldn't mind closing the thread now. It's the right moment, more posts don't add to it. Keep it as a little and crazy part of the forum's history.

What I'm saying is, people will still be in denial for a long time.

no more ups.

I thought the EFF mention was interesting.

I think everyone should keep in mind that mass withdrawals will be troublesome whether or not it is a P****.
869  Economy / Economics / Re: Velocity on: July 12, 2012, 09:40:39 PM

The problem is, if I send to you 1 BTC, but it came from a 100 BTC coin, was there 1 BTC of "economic" transfer, or 99 BTC (which is the amount of the change transaction)?   You and I know it was 1 BTC, but nobody else really can know that.

Isn't this similar with dollar bills or any fiduciary form of money ?

In a one-dollar transaction paid with a 100-dollar bill, we see 199 dollar units changing hands. It could be a 99 dollar tx (in smaller denominations) and a 100 dollar tx : no one could tell in the macro economics statistics of velocity, only the parties privy to the transaction.

With dollars there are two transactions, $100 to the merchant, than $99 to the customer.  With Bitcoin there is 1 BTC sent to the merchant and 99 BTC the customer sends to their own address.

Anyway, the point is that change from BTC transactions would not be useful in determining velocity.
870  Economy / Marketplace / Re: The Armory - Weapon Marketplace on: July 12, 2012, 09:05:26 PM
In the US, I can't think of any legitimate reason to own a unregistered weapon. Possession an unregistered weapon is a huge liability, considering the consequences of getting caught.
There is no gun registration in the US except for fully automatic firearms and the like.

I stand corrected. Ha, I should have known that. Cash sales in the classifieds are common where I live.

Hm... would anyone care right now if gpumax miners were paid out with BS&T funds?
They are.

Pirate directly denied this when I brought it up the other day. (he said that GPUMAX is not a part of the BTCST model).
873  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Putting your money where Pirate's mouth is. on: July 12, 2012, 08:01:16 PM
Why are people still trying to figure out who he is? 30 minutes of internet detective work, and you can find out anything you want to know about him. Not that I have, of course.
There is a name tied to pirate via the GPUMAX registration. But is it really him? Might be some kind of strawman or identity theft.

If it is really him, and BS&T defaults, do we have enough proof to hold him responsible in court?

That's not what I'm talking about. Hell, a facebook link was posted a while back by a member of these forums. If you do some research and connect the dots, you can deduce exactly who he is beyond any reasonable doubt.
874  Economy / Services / Re: BitCoinTorrentz.com - Torrent Download Service on: July 12, 2012, 06:58:00 PM
it only works occasionally for me. When it doesn't, I just get the little "x" bubble instead of the whole "pay with bitcoins" box.

I see the same thing, though it's never working for me.

I am using firefox in Ubuntu. It starting working for little bit after I restarted my computer. Sometimes I switch to chromium just to use bitcointorrentz.

It's frustrating to use sometimes (one time I paid to download a torrent that didn't download, I kept the status page in my browser for days), but it's a really useful service and a perfect application of bitcoin for micropayments.

Pirate is a genius, we all agree.

878  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: USD between MTGOX <--> DWOLLA on: July 12, 2012, 04:51:25 PM
I am planning to transfer a 4-digit amount into Dwolla, and it should arrive in my account early next week. I would like to pre-arrange a trade. Please let me know if you are interested. I am looking for someone with a strong bitcoin-otc ratings, or who is otherwise "highly trustworthy." I have a decent bitcoin-otc track record, and can supplement that by revealing my actual identity (I am an academic). I would consider taking mtgoxusd 1-for-1 but would prefer to just get bitcoins at a rate slightly closer to bitfloor/campbx (as of the time we actually do the transfer, of course) depending on whether there is enough interest.

Why use Dwolla then?  Skip the middle man.
If you have funds in your bank account you can get coins today.

PM sent.

Dwolla is almost free. AFAIK, direct funding from a bank is costly.

Clicking "Download Torrent" isn't working anymore.

880  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: To all the Litecoin haters, trolls and twats on: July 12, 2012, 02:49:27 AM
The naysayers still have yet to present any real arguments against Litecoin other than "Bitcoin is just as good and works."

I hear the client is trash. Haven't seen it first hand.
