1061  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: June 06, 2012, 04:09:22 PM
My method for some time now has been to generate a wallet using a hash of a string on bitaddress.org, send bitcoins to the address, and then sit on them
How do you mean 'sit on them', how/where do you store the private key for the money on that address?

In my head. It is a "brainwallet," a.k.a. the private key is generated from a string of letters or numbers I come up with, such as "I love my dog and my cat also" or "il0vemyd0gandmycata150". anything works. I do it by going to bitaddress (I have it saved as am html file on my computer in case something happens to the website), and I click on "wallet details." When it asks for your private key, I just type in some words that I know I can remember. It then asks if I want to generate a private key from the phrase, and I say yes. Then it gives me the public and private key that is generated from the seed.

Yeah, I really haven't figured out how all of this works, my bitcoins are just kind of along for the ride. I'm cool with that.
1063  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BMF - Daily Dividends in June! on: June 06, 2012, 08:05:45 AM
I don't know if GLBSE supports this, but you may consider  1/10 share split. 1 BTC per share is too high. I believe you could sell more and have bigger trade volumes at lower price. You investors would benefit out of this as well. When they decide to sell their shares they will find more bidders.
BTW, do you plan to sell only those 10000 shares or you may issue more anytime you want to?

1 BTC is only $5. Apple is over $500 a share right now, so is Google. Microsoft, Adobe and Oracle all have share prices north of $25. While a high share price is indeed a deterrent if you only have a small amount of money to invest, it also suggests that the company has increased in value and is a worthwhile place to put your money.

I am not interested in issuing more shares yet. Once we're fully issued, a share offering would only make sense if we can place a large order at a discount to market price, so as to immediately increase our NAV. Such an issue would be announced ahead of time.

No, an arbitrary IPO price-per-share, as a means of suggestion, is meaningless to anybody who is deep enough into bitcoins to be buying and selling on GLBSE. This is the one reason you list to support your decision, and it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Nobody here is going to be "fooled" that the company has increased in value (I'm not even sure what you mean by this in regards to BMF) whether you chose 1 btc or 100 btc to be the price-per-share. This fund sounds really cool, and I think it is a great idea. I have been considering investing, but this answer was kind of a turn off for me frankly. I completely agree with GeoRW.

My method for some time now has been to generate a wallet using a hash of a string on bitaddress.org, send bitcoins to the address, and then sit on them until I am ready to spend. Then I import the private key into an ewallet and spend immediately. That way, I am totally offline without counterparty risk until the ~ two minutes my private key is exposed to anybody. Also, are there any ewallets that allow private key import on iOS's safari?
1065  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: June 06, 2012, 05:18:17 AM
I can vouch for the reliability and trustworthiness of this service. I received three payouts, then withdrew all bitcoins without a problem, everything in a super-timely manner. (I also was unaware of the website, I just dealt with payb.tc va pm's)

Do defaults concern you?

I do not think default would be a concern if one had already earn their investment back in interest payments.

If you are buying a 10 dollar gift card on a forum 2 minutes after it is posted, then you definitely have time to play games. I most certainly do.

No, I have this amazing thing that notifies me when new posts are made that match what I'm looking for.

Unfortunately I can't to do much more than just watch, so my thoughts on this are insignificant and do not need to be answered or acknowledged.

But what absolutely blows my mind is that the rate of return is so much higher than any other investment opportunity, since all those extra %s could just go straight into pirate's pocket. I have yet to make any sense of this.

Reading the threads and speculation about BTCST has been absolutely a blast.

  • The government does have the authority to investigate and prosecute these cases
Yeah? Where did they get this authority from? Did we agree to this? Did we give our consent?
The State's authority comes from God, who is the source of all authority and life. God's rights are unlimited, and don't require your consent.
For those who believe not in God, lawlessness already exists.
Rather, for those delusional enough to deny God's existence, they find it easy to also deny the reality of lawful authority.

herp derp

Sometimes I think the entire fundie luke jr thing is just trolling since you are very intelligent in other ways, but I suppose indoctrination gets to the best of us.

Also, if God is the source of all authority, God is the source of all violence, which would make him very evil indeed.  Congratulations on justifying the reign of Hitler while you were at it.

No! Godwin's law dammit! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

I want to fully believe in this so bad. After reading this thread I am one step closer. I am so torn. So torn.
