490  Economy / Speculation / Re: Liberty Reserve shutdown is a boost for Bitcoin? on: May 29, 2013, 12:30:12 AM
If you have not heard the news yet, Liberty Reserve has been shut down http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22680297

This is bullish news for Bitcoins. Not only is there now one less competitor to bitcoins, but this shows one more time why a decentralized payment network is much more resilient than a centralized one. This also shows how aggressive governments can be, so it is even more important to have your money in a place you control, one which will not get shut down by police.

Is this as big as the Cyprus thing? No, because it affects fewer people, but it is just one more thing in a long line of acts which the government is doing which will ultimately push people into using Bitcoins.

Not fewer people dude, too many. Total 6 billion dollars got seized and yes people will move to bitcoin for sure.

http://www.justice.gov/usao/nys/pressreleases/May13/LibertyReserveetalDocuments.php

$6 billion didn't get seized, that's the estimated amount of transactions they're being accused of laundering since 2006.

The indictment states that "a sum of money of at least $6 billion" will be forfeited (plus amounts in many other accounts)

492  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Gekko - a javascript trading bot for nodejs on: May 26, 2013, 10:00:22 PM
Hi, I left this running in demo mode over the weekend while I was away from the computer and returned to find this message "(PROBLEM) 2013-05-27 09:06:06 Server responded with an error or no data, sleeping" repeating four times in sequence, once a minute. I waited for the next trade to take place and found that the last price seemed to be up to date. I restarted it and it reconnected immediately. This has not recurred so far (about 1.5 hours runtime).
Is it able to reconnect if the connection is lost? Should it have in this instance?

Bumping down...

Well, that sorta sucks. Looks like Liberty Reserve was shutdown today.

Costa Rican arrested in Spain for alleged financial crimes

Article seems a little iffy, but http://www.libertyreserve.com/ does appear to be down.

So much for "liberty"  Undecided
495  Economy / Speculation / Re: ManBearPig's Annotated, Updated BTC/USD Chart for 2013, May 24th on: May 24, 2013, 10:11:32 PM
I think a new trendline is forming. One that starts  at the dip in April 16-23 and extends to where we are now. I have no experience with legit TA though. It just seems like we have been following that slope.

I'm no expert either, but perhaps a line approximating the bottoms on the chart might work? Something similar to this red line?

496  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 22, 2013, 03:26:37 AM
I noticed every once in a while (like the last block) there will be almost 10BTC worth of transfer fees! I think it's awesome but does anyone know why that happens? a typo when someone did a transfer? or are people just being very nice to miners Tongue

Just noticed this myself. Nice  Smiley

Nice buy

500  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Barometer on: May 19, 2013, 10:40:19 AM
I think you should swap xx sold | yy bought under the barometer to bought | sold. Or maybe it's just me, but I associate top with left and green/top is the first thing you see and because we read from left to right, shouldn't green be the first thing to read, too? Smiley

+1

Andy B

Hmmm, just seen this change and I think I preferred it the other way. I think because I always associate left with down and right with up, probably from looking at Mt Gox Live and Bitcoinity a lot
