121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: March 25, 2013, 06:10:43 AM
where is my package?
Order # 200000846.
still no tracker or parcel.

your unit is shipping on april first.

disclosure: this man wired me money in Jan, 2013 out of no where, claiming for his order which he made during earlier nov.
out of good faith, I kept the order valid, now he posts everywhere ask where is his unit.
122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 25, 2013, 06:07:47 AM

Well I do commend you for killing the 100+ orders, but is it really fair to let some people order 4-10 units while others don't even have a chance because the payment site went belly up?  It is your company and your decision, my opinion is a lottery system or even just limiting orders to 2 per address/person would have been more fair.

People who deserve respect...well some people behave on this site differently from their outside lives - yes you can see their greed in their emails to you.

I did not mean any disrespect about the heritage.  What I am saying is sometimes people don't understand the way people word things because sayings are different in different parts of the world.  My parents speech is often viewed as blunt or harsh, but guess that's the way we Chinese are lol.

To shred some light, you can ask libertybuck, that was a group order, we didn't in fact allow people to order a lot of units per person. and as for payment site bellying up, that was totally our fault.
123  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 25, 2013, 05:25:48 AM

Let me give you case in point - Libertybuck (in China) with 18 Avalon units would be minimally 1.2 TH/s.  Allowing one person to order than many units while other could not get even one order in seems like they didn't really follow through on what they were preaching.

They should be commended for their hard work as opposed to the comedy/tragedy act that is BFL, but their Oligarchy (Bitsyncom demanding respect from his customers) needs some retooling.  And no it's not a cultural thing I'm misreading since my parents are from mainland also.

LOL, I've rejected multitude of 100+ orders and even an offer to buy out the whole 300 unit lot, if we want to min-max I wouldn't even reply to you.

out of the numerous email I get a day, about 30% is people asking how can I pay me $$$$ to get faster shipment, talk about respect.

I'll respect people who deserves it.

Also, what does your parents have to do with anything. Some people in china got their units earlier due to Chinese New Year, or are you too detached from China growing up outside and all, considering you didn't say you were also from mainland that you don't actually understand CNY's impact on business?

LOL

126  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon] How to automate restarting of Avalon/cgminer when it stops mining? on: March 24, 2013, 04:11:02 AM
From time to time, I see that it stops hashing.  I would like to automate detection and restart and was wondering if anyone had any pointer.
Thanks in advance!

Update to latest firmware that was released recently, which fixes some "stuck" issue and will continue to automatically restart.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon#20130321

or you can try the NEXT firmware which is in testing.
127  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [AVALON] - I got my ASIC Thread (Batch #1) on: March 23, 2013, 10:13:40 PM
How many units high can you safely stack?

In pictures from their warehouse with units being prepared for shipping they've shown stacks 6 units high. But if you have a solid base that's not wobbly I guess you can probably stack even more... It all depends on the weight the bottom unit can support. I think Yifu or Zhang know the real numbers here.

I recommend 5 per stack.
128  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hey BitSyncom, I'm about to visit China. Can I come by on: March 23, 2013, 10:12:04 PM
I think it has been made clear that pickup is not an option due to being fair for all customers.  If that policy has changed, I would like to know as well.

LOL you believe that BS?

There is noway to be fair regarding this. Look at how many Chinese customers got them first.

Whats the point? shipping is always varies. If you pay for the cost to travel there, you should receive them first

A Chinese customer is closer so logic would tell us they would get them before places outside of the country.   Common sense.

Why should I not believe that?   Should I instead just assume nobody tells the truth.  So far they have kept their promises and set expectation within a reasonable range.   With that attitude you are likely to make less allies, not more.

What you said about travel expense, is a policy option. It  seems their principle is more about fairness in competition and securing the network while making a profitable venture.

Thoughts?

i call BS on that.

If you actually understand what Chinese New Year does to operations in China...

And for replying to OPs question.

currently we do not want people visiting our facility, I think I do not need to state the obvious why this operations location needs to be kept secret.
129  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [AVALON] - I got my ASIC Thread (Batch #1) on: March 23, 2013, 05:23:47 PM
No idea, I just remember Yifu or Zhang posting at some point about how the casing is designed to be part of the heatsink. And I noticed how well the units clamp down on each other if you stack them. It was obviously intended that way - when you stack several units on top of each other, the outer casing of the stack becomes one giant heatsink.

This is correct, the "bolt" exclusion from top of one unit's case fit directly into the "socket" of another unit's bottom plate.
130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What is the price of Batch 3? on: March 22, 2013, 05:11:38 PM
thats bullshit ... and unreasonable...
Supply and demand! They're the only shipping ASIC, and they're selling like hotcakes. They can do whatever they want with the price, and people will still buy them.

Supply and demand is fine. Claiming the price is based on ROI is just bullshit though. When was the last time you bought a car and the seller asked if you would be using it as a taxi?

When you buy a taxi.
131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [FIXED] Avalon URGENT ISSUE: both of my avalon do not work any more on: March 22, 2013, 05:08:23 PM
the easyest way is to flash it without keep settings(you just need te add the pool and user)
the other way if you upgraded the firmware
after you set the password
use winscp and connect to the ip of the avalon using scp connection + user root  + passsword that you set
navigate to folder /etc/init.d/ select cgminer press F4 for edit add ip save
from system stop start process cgminer.

No need, flashing new firmware does NOT overwrite existing settings.
132  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [FIXED] Avalon URGENT ISSUE: both of my avalon do not work any more on: March 22, 2013, 04:56:20 PM
had the same problem
if you flash without keep settings you need to change the the cgminer file in  /etc/init.d/ and add "W:127.0.0.1"
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon#20130321

How do I go about doing that? (I don't know the linux system very well)

133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [AVALON] - I got my ASIC Thread (Batch #1) on: March 22, 2013, 07:15:41 AM
Dude,
Leave some space in between each two- preferable. I used some of the "rubber thing" from the package. Cut it to four small pieces and put in on top of the first one, then put second one on top. There must be some air between each other

this is incorrect, units are designed to stack directly on top of each other without additional things in between.
134  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: March 22, 2013, 05:37:38 AM
One of my TP-Link routers is dead, is there anything I can or do I need to buy a new TP-Link router?

it sounds like you have multiple units, what you can do is un-plug the USB hub connected to the router and connect it to another unit's hub, and the other units cgminer will pick up the slack. To better illustrate the units are connected as such.

Power supply => Power Distributor Board => FPGA Controller => USB Hub => OpenWRT router.
the modules are connected to the FPGA Controller.

So if the tplink is broken, you can hook the FPGA controller or the USB Hub directly into another working unit's USB Hub, and once you restart cgminer from the webGUI it should pick up the second avalon unit. We have tested this configuration before and it works.

Try this and report back.
135  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 22, 2013, 04:39:49 AM
In the announcement it said Batch #3 will go on sale on Friday....does that mean Friday in China? It's 12:30pm Friday in China right now, so I suppose we can expect it any time now.

I guess that means as an American, I'm not sleeping tonight. Cheesy

That was an example estimate, I should probably clarified earlier, that 88 -115 is based on difficulty estimates, so this number will adjust accordingly, and I would say many things are lost in translation and taken the wrong way.

in other words, DO NOT take information to be final unless it is from the NEWSLETTER.
136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [AVALON] - I got my ASIC Thread (Batch #1) on: March 22, 2013, 12:22:25 AM
I've got my Avalons. Wink

1. put them horizontal... they are made for stacking and not vertical positioning
2. turn them sideways so fans can actually in-take and vent air properly instead of getting blocked by a wall.

/facepalm
137  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I ordered my Avalon but haven't received confirmation yet thread. on: March 21, 2013, 03:54:00 PM

Don't do this.

I ordered a batch #2 Avalon ASIC unit back on February 3rd.

Through the chaos and glitches of the website that day, I actually managed to get payment sent through walletbit and I have the confirmation for that, but I'm nervous that my shipping address might have gotten messed up.  As the website was crashing frequently I heard issues where people placed orders and other people's names and info appeared.

Beyond that, no other confirmation ever came up.  I know these guys are busy, but over the past month I've sent PM's, 2 emails to support@avalon-asic.com, and received no response.

Does anyone know who I should be contacting?
Contact Walletbit support and verify shipping info with them. As Yifu said, if you got confirmation from Walletbit, then Avalon have your order.

This.
138  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 20, 2013, 08:29:35 PM
I will save BTC for your generation #2 first batch from now on Wink

Hopefully by then there will be more competition or the network hashrate is a lot higher so we won't be forced to come up with these ridiculous numbers.

Trade-Ins. Avalon believes in continuing the trust that have build up with our old customers. Reinstating our policy of $300 per Icarus, $400 per Lancelot, limited one FPGA trade-in per ASIC unit. The trade-in program will continue to be available and will apply to 1st-gen Avalons when the time comes.

so i think/hope batch2-price

Yes this is correct, we uphold our words. expect a news letter soon with details.
140  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The latest Avalon announcement in China(Translated). Batch #3, price and more. on: March 20, 2013, 08:16:25 PM
That's fine - it is a business decision. Please consider attaching a USD price as well, and give an option to pay with USD - that will enable people to buy the unit who do not have enough BTC

Ever heard of http://bitinstant.com?
