1. Wire USD to BitStamp 2. Buy BTC on BitStamp 3. Transfer BTC to Gox 5. Sell BTC on Gox 6. Profit in USD? BitCoin-24 has also ridiculously high prices in EUR so could do BitStamp-->BitCoin24... but I have a trust issue with them since rumour has it that their bank account is frozen atm.

er.. depends what currency you define money in.
- bought coins for fiat at a much lower price than they are at now. But I sold some so over time my BTC count diminished. Hence I lost BTC to inflationary fiat. - sold some coins for fiat. Ended up with more fiat than I put in. So made money in USD.

I'll be buying 100,000 BTC at $0.05 each pretty soon.
Should that ever happen - I also left a few thousands on an exchange (NOT Gox), half BTC and half USD. So I'll beat your offer and buy at 0.050001

Didn't sell, won't sell. Didn't buy, will buy.
Respect. I felt I need to go away from this emotional rollercoaster - but have no intention of leaving the building. So I got to a compromise. I reduced my exposure to heart failure by taking out, in fiat, 126% of my initial investment (bitcoins and GPUs). I still have 252% of that initial investment (at current rates) in BTC. This is going to be my savings wallet. The wallet's private key has been exported and stored in a secure place which is not easy for me to access. Then I removed it from the client. So I am not tempted to panic sell. I'm also keeping a separate BTC wallet for petty cash. Possibly when this shitstorm is over I'll use it to buy stuff that - unfortunately - currently is still priced in fiat.

seriously, I wish I could have a look and contribute to MAKING THIS EFFING SERVICE RUN. I have some 5 years experience in managing enterprise shared storage for databases.

intermittently.
It executes trades for a few seconds, stops for a few minutes, then the cycle repeats.

What a failure.
I would not trade with such a massive lag.
We're deep in the night here. You know what? Fuck this. I put my asks and bids on the other exchanges and go back to sleep.
Cheers.

...aanndd it's gone.

No wait, it's back... intermittently... 523 seconds lag and increasing.

they should take off that bloody notice that still says that trading is suspended until... some time in the past. FFS

I'll be there to watch it happening. This is going to be more exciting than, say, a night out clubbing - or maybe your favourite TV series. And there's BTC to be made. Good luck to you all - but most of all, good luck to me

Where are all the people who will panic sell? Like everyone is just waiting for the cheap btcs.
This. Although - how many right now do have fiat cash in Gox at all?
|
|
|
ahem... could you please freak out anyway? Just a tiny bit more? Please?

Someone, to me. I sold at 67.30 and bought back at 55.5. Profit for me, in BTC. Thanks

how about this: People might be selling at other exchanges right now because they all expect a sharp knife to happen. So they need fiat to get a chance to buy more coins close to the bottom. You know how it ends when too many people expect something to happen?
|
|
|
everyone will be buying because everyone thinks everyone is selling
I'd say: 1. quick selloff to whatever value the other exchanges will have stabilized at (consensus seems to be around 85$) 2. panic to below 50$ 3. multiple price swings till a new equilibrium is found (likely to be not much below pre-Gox-reopen consensus) If you're good at calling highs and lows, you'll profit from the swings. Only a few hours to go. Be ready for a hell of a ride. Also Gox taking no fees for 48 hours means you'll be tempted to leave the fiat there at least during that time.

They're probably troubleshooting/testing connections or some such task.
a reasonable explanation... Damn. This will likely cause a regain of confidence and a spike of buys on other exchanges. Before my asks for cheap coins get filled.

Once upon a time there was a database that was shutdown uncleanly, and a non empty transaction log...

NO, this is manipulation and it's not OK I had just chosen to profit from the dips to get WAY more coins. They just spoiled my favourite game. (OTOH this is likely an excuse to finally do the upgrades they need)
