481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Practical example on the usefulness of bitcoins... on: May 23, 2011, 12:39:35 AM
I'm not knocking the coolness of that, but ... isn't that what cash is for?   Huh  I don't understand the trend of so many people (including many I know) that don't ever seem to have cash with them.

That's the consequence of years of brainwashing which produced "credit card generation". If you don't see what you're spending it makes you spend more on useless things you don't need, but you're convinced you want, because talking head in a box told you so.

Bitcoin IS cash, but it's better - it's digital  Wink

483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Summery: startup idea employing bitcoin to solve the tl;dr problem. on: May 22, 2011, 11:02:03 PM

Maybe that's why you're having trouble making any money of your site

Got a better argument for that?  Wink

The argument is that there are plenty wealthy and technical people around. The true great things happen when they are united by visionary people who don't know much about either but dare to dream
484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Summery: startup idea employing bitcoin to solve the tl;dr problem. on: May 22, 2011, 10:55:29 PM
Terribly rude, aren't you meant to moderate? Or do do abusive insults as well do it for you?

That's a business valuation, not a personal insult.

I considered people who plays with only ideas, totally worthless as far as moneymaking goes.

Maybe that's why you're having trouble making any money of your site

adrian33 I think it's a great idea. Keep at it

See if you can find your transaction here http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/ outlined in red. If it's there that probably means it's low priority and it will eventually get where you sent it to

Hi sporeknight123,

At the moment you can't mine solo because you don't have the complete blockchain. It around 125857 now. From what you wrote it's obvious that your client is having problems connecting to the network. If you wait I am sure it will eventually find peers and complete the download. If you don't want to wait, you need to open the 8333 port on your computer or/and router facing the Internet. The easy way to achieve this is to go to "Settings"->"Options"->and check "Map forwarding using UPnP". Then restart the client.
Alternatively, you could join a pool because if you continue solo, in all likelihood, it will be weeks or months before you get your first reward.

Here's my position, which I find to be the most reasonable of the methods by which to cut government spending:

Start cutting benefits for the rich, and taxes for the poor, and work your way to the middle.

Case by case basis, really.  I don't necessarily agree with the wars we are involved in, but then again, we'd all be kicking ourselves if we let another 9/11 happen.

And this is the reason why things will never change.
US = Oil supply decreasing, demand increasing
Brown people half way round the world seem to have some of it.
Come on now - join the dots

494  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: having serious issues Bitcoin mining, please help! on: May 21, 2011, 02:03:27 AM

495  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: having serious issues Bitcoin mining, please help! on: May 21, 2011, 01:36:42 AM
cal.97 if you really determined to try and make this work try

Code:
sudo updatedb
Code:
locate poclbm.py

then you should see the path where your poclbm.py resides. or just post the output and we'll see where it's at

edit: are you downloading LinuxCoin?

Ok, I see that we won't get far this way. I recommend you download that LinuxCoin distro and then if you have problems starting your miner, come back here or feel free to pm me and we'll sort it out  Wink
500  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: having serious issues Bitcoin mining, please help! on: May 21, 2011, 12:52:38 AM
Well, linux distribution at the moment is not the problem. The problem is that you try running that command, but you are not in the miner directory
