Most GPUs blow very little out the exhaust holes in the backplate.  Maybe the ones with the old hairdrier coolers on them, but not the type with the 2/3 open fans.  They dump their heat to the case, so adding a fan is ideal.

I agree with what you're saying.  However since they do blow some heat out of those exhaust holes, blowing air into them would seem to be counter-productive.

Bowjob: Geez, don't be butthurt. I'm just delivering the news
Ivan Frimmel: thanks man
Bowjob: Avalon customers bought in fully expecting that BFL would ship first
Ivan Frimmel: hey ..
Ivan Frimmel: pass it up ..
Ivan Frimmel: blue fans are fucking tacky
Ivan Frimmel: tell yifu
snagglejuice: those sorrows
Ivan Frimmel: when you take the blue fan out .. I MIGHT take you seriously
Bowjob: Aight.

I went on to butterflylabs and told everyone about batch 2..

Oh, this was their response..
That's one person - Ivan.  You really cannot characterize an entire board's response by one person.  Please stop being such a dick.  I, personally, am happy to hear that you guys are getting your gear.  I also sincerely hope it helps with your current situation.
263  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: May 21, 2013, 09:08:06 PM

Not that you asked Wink but the only possible downside I see is the port arrangement.

If you're buying it solely to run USB miners, the dimensions of the miner may prevent you from using all of the ports w/o the use of some USB extension cables.
264  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: May 21, 2013, 08:53:58 PM
I'm also looking for a quality "industrial look" USB hub for some time... bought a d-link 7-port for my zTex and stripped the case, it's still working, can't say as much for the power brick!

There are some but they are expensive as hell, and also they have weird power connectors:

Here's a 7 port USB 3.0 version, which gives you max 1.5 amps per port.  Although with the sapphire's lower power requirements (.500-.510 amps versus the .560 of the emeralds) it may not be as important anymore.

And as you said, it's a little pricey at $99, considering you still need a power supply.
265  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: cgminer multiple gpus on: May 21, 2013, 08:30:08 PM
I'm only running 2 GPUS per board until I get my riser cables, but didn't have to do anything to get cgminer to see both cards on each machine.  try running this simple command to get started;
cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password

that should at least detect all the cards and mine on them

And, of course, "cgminer -n" will show you what cards cgminer detects.

Ok, time for a bit of showing off my rig:

5x Sapphire Radeon 7970
3750kHash/sec Litecoin
and blowing the heat right out of the window!

Very clean rig.  Nicely done.

Not to nitpick, but wouldn't it work more efficiently to rotate it 180 degrees and reverse the flow of the two large fans to compliment the exhaust of your video cards, rather than push against them?
267  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTIONING 1 "ASICMINER" "USB MINER" SHIPPED DIRECT FROM GROUP BUY on: May 21, 2013, 07:59:54 PM
What's the hash rate of the USB stick?

friedcat:  This comes after better stability. Now the hashrate converges to its theoretical value of 336MH/s.

268  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] BFL 5/GHz "Jalapeno" order no. 116XX on: May 21, 2013, 07:54:32 PM
Ok here's the deal, I'll accept 11 BTC for it. No, I cannot do escrow but I can give you my personal info. I will only sell to US buyers. No, I'm not exactly sure what batch I'll be in, I'm not sure when it will arrive. It is my gut feeling that BFL will eventually get it right and all the miners will finally be sent out. Being that my order was in October, I'm at a decent place in the line.
No escrow, I am sure everyone is going to be throwing themselves at this offer.  Roll Eyes

did BFL use escrow? no

the offer is on the table. take it or leave it. it's not that I don't trust you, I simply want the BTC now rather than the order. again, I'm selling an order and I want the BTC up front. I live in the united states and will supply my personal info. If that's not enough then too bad.

yup, too bad.

Insistence on not using escrow = scam

It IS that I don't trust you.

Wow... I'm surprised no-one mentioned this before? So insightful!

Too bad for BFL they immediately had every bitcoin received immediately exchanged to USD.

lol, no doubt.  TL;DR FUD with a flawed initial premise.

Too much OSX.

Ah, good point.  I hadn't considered that aspect of it.  To be avoided for sure.   Cheesy

Are you aware that all units are tested prior to shipment? You can't make the leap that they have been tested on mainnet simply because the unit is filled with dust. It's a long extension even for a shill from BFL.

His was damaged and he definitely needs a replacement, ASAP.
Where are they doing this testing, the local rock quarry?   Cheesy

That is weeks worth of dust.

Actually, that is one week's worth of dust on my equipment if I leave my back garage door open for ventilation during the day. I go through a can of compressed air a month trying to keep my rigs clean (dust makes them run hotter).

They are not in a rock quarry. They are someplace much worse.

Air quality in China is notoriously poor.

Then wouldn't they ALL look like that then?
275  Economy / Auctions / Re: ASICMINER Fixed-Price Auction: 50 Block Erupter Blades -everyone won, SEE OP- on: May 20, 2013, 08:32:31 PM
those cardboards will get on fire soon  Wink
Yep Smiley Chips are really hot to touch even on the Low clock settings.

This is why I will welcome our alien overlords.

After the many, many threads about how to cool these, someone posts a setup like this.   Roll Eyes
276  Economy / Lending / Re: Quick Loan, .6 btc. Quick BTC on: May 20, 2013, 08:22:12 PM
I am trying to build up rep, figured I would try this out.

I would like a .6 bitcoin loan. Will repay in 3 days or less (Monday) .8 bitcoins. Would like to make it simple.

Easy money for anyone, Trying to add to my rep, I have pretty good activity on the website.

Will post transactions and success for both parties when complete!!

PM for details. I do have skype. Thanks!!

This does nothing for your "rep", either one of you.  Certainly nothing good, at least.

It's contrived, staged.  "EVERYONE!! LOOK AT HOW TRUSTWORTHY I AM!!!"

It's like trying to buy friends.  It just doesn't work that way.
277  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Maximus V extreme! on: May 20, 2013, 07:52:22 PM
I find it funny how you people jump and ask why i sell, where i got it,etc

Iknowrite?   Wink

I'm just a potential buyer after all.  What right do I have to know wtf I'm buying.

"funny" is some of the sketchy shit people try to sell here.

Like "reviewer sample" motherboards with no accessories and no box because "Comes in bulk".    Roll Eyes

it's a reviewer sample but comes with no box  Smiley

Does it come with all of the accessories?

Woohoo ! Just got a $5k refund ! Drinks are on me !

gentlemen: excellent news. i just heard from our wonderful, glorious cat.
we're the first to get delivered.

Congratulations!  That's great news!  Any chance you'll STFU about it now?

Why would he stop posting in his thread? People are begging him for constant updates.

Yeah, I'm thrilled to hear we're getting ours first.

My reply was to the troll interjecting his personal drama into this thread.
