the idea was that its not high density - the case is open air and i was hoping that the passive coolers would help reduce the noise levels as its going to be sat on my desk in my home office
504  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: passive gpu cooling? on: June 12, 2013, 03:09:13 PM
thats what i thought Wink

although i did think about strapping a big fan to it but then that defeats the purpose Cheesy
505  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: passive gpu cooling? on: June 12, 2013, 02:27:23 PM
you can use passive coolers if and only if your case provides enough airflow on it's own(one or two big fans as opposed to lots of little ones is the idea there)

i have two large 220mm fans but i dont think the CFM is very high.

PM'd you.

thanks - i'll scratch that idea then Wink

i ahve a HD 5850 that needs a new cooler - the fan is duff

just seen this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arctic-Accelero-S1-PLUS-Passive-VGA-Cooler-DCACO-V470001-BL-NEW-/281016276063?pt=US_Video_Card_GPU_Cooling&hash=item416de0145f

is it worth investing in?

my case is going to be an open air case so obviusly plenty of airflow... - would save me a few w in fan and a lot of noise Wink

Im using the following cgminer command:

c:\tools\cgminer3\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o [pool] -u [username] -p [password] --thread-concurrency 6144 -g 1 -w 256  -I 13,13

first card is my HD5850, second card is my HD5850 - i will be adding in my HD 6850 soon and converting to an open air case using this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lacewing-Tier-Mini-PVC-Greenhouse/dp/B008J26F9G

the PVC is long gone and the botton shelf got broken.

I'm building a custom motherboard mount and I have 3 powered PCI-e x16 extenders and 2 220mm InWin case fans that i will use to blow into the front with the cards pointing out the back.

the artifacts go as soon as i disable my second monitor so i assume that something is a little damaged.

i'm planning on rebuilding the OS soon anyway - open air case coming soon.

I'm looking at going back to mining BTC as my office gets too hot mining scrypt atm.

Need LTC/FTC value to increase so i can afford to run the A/C Wink

started mining again and they're back...  Undecided

hmm bizarre, i disabled my second monitor and they went away and now i've re-enabled it - they've gone again :S

i rebooted before hand :S:S:S

glad its back to normal though Wink

513  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / artifacts whilst browsing web? on: June 11, 2013, 08:16:26 PM
hi guys, first time ive seen this - my screen on the PC when browsing the web seems to flicker a bit (whilst moving the mouse) - even when the PC isn't mining (HD 5870) but it only seems to be affected in browsers - when gaming it seems fine - could it be a dodgy driver combo or is it likely that my GFX card has been 'damaged' by mining - this card hasnt been over clocked for scrypt mining although i have noticed it was running hot today (85 degrees C) - it did a bit of bitcoin mining a while back but its only today that its playing up.

514  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 - now sounds like a jet after a power outage... on: June 11, 2013, 02:16:44 PM
fan runs at 80% i believe - Afterburner has a custon fan control on it to keep all the cards below 70 although i am switchign to an open air rig in the next week or so, so hopefully i wont need the custom control and i'll revert to 'automatic'

i have a couple of 120mm deltas that i plan on using in the 'summer' Wink (in the UK - so summer is a loose description for a couple of warmer than normal weeks Wink)

Hmm, 80% isn't too bad, it can be loud, but not leaf blower loud.  I'd look into obtaining a replacement fan, or an aftermarket cooler (locally I've seen seen Arctic coolers for 5850's going for about $20).  I'm not sure how well a 120mm delta will cool an reference-style card unless you take off the shroud and strap a couple onto the heatsink, that actually may work pretty well Smiley

i was going to use it to pump air into the case but as i'm adding an additional card on risers and having two 220mm fans to blow onto/into the system they may well end up being redundant - my office is 10x6 and i have a small airconditioning unit that i may use but obvously running that 24/7 will increase my operating expenses Wink

i ahve just checked and in the middle of the day the GPUs are at 83 and fans are at 100% Sad

open case will have to be finished this week or i'll have to dial down my GPUs

if the card is fine a fan is cheap, i'd be suspect of the card without a through test though I know I lost one during a power outage the entire board was discolored slightly, it would still boot but got hot and loud quick.

its mining happily atm

the whole rig has surge protectors and i'm considering adding a UPS into the mix too
517  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 - now sounds like a jet after a power outage... on: June 10, 2013, 02:05:44 PM
yeah its reference Smiley

the card still runs fine so is it it worth replacing then?

are you in the UK?
519  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 5850 - now sounds like a jet after a power outage... on: June 10, 2013, 01:19:25 PM
my mining rig - 1x 5870, 1x 5850 and 2 USB Block exploders got hard powered off this morning when the toaster tripped the house power :S

after bring it back online the fan on teh 5850 now sounds like a leaf blower - its an ASUS HD 5850 - its it worth replacing the fan?
520  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] - AMD 7850/7950 for BTC/LTC on: June 06, 2013, 10:15:38 AM
i'm looking for a couple of 7850s or 7950s to go in my gaming rigs - not looking to mine with them, i am looking to pay in BTC or LTC inc shipping to UK.

PM or replies with offers and prices.
