1181  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-14]Bitcoin Traders Weigh New Risks as Scaling Returns to Spotlight on: March 15, 2017, 05:33:08 AM
Consensus being developed on ways to tackle the scaling problem, either through a blocksize increase or other means, will provided a big boost to Bitcoin's price. It will be an even bigger development than what the ETF approval could have been.
Unfortunately, a solution doesn't seem to be in sight.
1182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you ever lost BTC from getting infected? on: March 14, 2017, 12:42:33 PM
I have not yet lost BTC from getting infected. I keep most of my bitcoins on cold storage, so that even in case my computer gets infected, my bitcoins are safe. I also am very careful in what I install on my computer.
1183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would bitcoin market cap rise faster if bitcoin did a 1000:1 split? on: March 14, 2017, 12:31:42 PM
I think psychologically, it could get more people investing in Bitcoin.
But what is the point of debating this? It is not possible to have this split. At best, we can start marketing everything in mBTC.
1184  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-14]Lack of Regulations See Bitcoin Pyramid Schemes Rise in India on: March 14, 2017, 12:28:09 PM
You have multi level marketing schemes flourishing with different products, starting from shampoos to livestock. The media doesn't play up those. Once you have bitcoin involved, the media goes to town telling them about 'Bitcoin Pyramid Schemes'.
1185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why bitcoin may benefit from FED interest rate hike on: March 14, 2017, 12:26:15 PM
They're just trying to respond to Trump's plans to bring unemployment below the natural rate of unemployment, inflation will be huge if they succeed. Moral of the story? Trump is good for btc Tongue

President Trumps work is a good news to bitcoin. If the price of dollars increase in value then using simple logic since bitcoin is backed up by dollar then the value of bitcoin is also increasing. Though the United States of America cannot really felt the impact on bitcoins but to us living in the third world country the conversion of bitcoin to our local currency will also increased.

Bitcoin is not backed up by the dollar. The dollar just happens to be the currency against which bitcoin is mostly traded.
I am not sure if Bitcoin will benefit from Fed interest rate hike. Usually, when interest rate goes up, risk tolerance comes down.
1186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the whole Cryptocurrency market: UPUPUPUP? Reality-check! on: March 13, 2017, 05:25:16 AM
Look at the market capitalization of the entire cryptocurrency market and the market capitalization of Apple.
The entire crypto system is worth less than 1/3 of Apple. That is cause for a reality check. We really have a long way to go.
1187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull run is over. Welcome to the consolidation period. on: March 13, 2017, 05:20:48 AM
Looks like the bull run of the couple months is temporaly over. Time to have a nice consolidation period around 1100$. Let the dust settle and let bitcoin cool down. We need to stay at this price for a couple of months and let it be the new bottom. Its better for our market, traders and bitcoin's biggest problem: trust.  Average Joe needs to believe in bitcoin to make it succesfull. Spread the news folks!
Its a bull for the whole year of  2017. I can guarantee that bitcoin will reach $1500 by the month of june.,and will continue to go up on the rest of the month. Maybe 1800$ by december.

It's quite surprising that the price is staying high. I expected a drop after the rejection of the Bitcoin ETF, but the drop wasn't as much as expected and it is already moving back up.

There was a drop (of up to $300), but the price recovered quickly. I agree with the OP that there will be consolidation, but I think it will happen over a range from $1100 to $1300. If the ETF had been approved, there would have been a true bull run.
1188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE NEXT BITCOIN HALVING on: March 13, 2017, 05:15:18 AM
Nothing to worry about in bitcoin halving especially when the price value of bitcoin is stabilize in $1000 i think the last halving occurred when the price of BTC was still around $700 but still that didn't stop bitcoin.
Even if the mining rewards turns to half, the transaction fee is enough to cover the mining fee.

The $700 was achieved in the run up to the halving. People buy bitcoins in anticipation of the halving.
I expect a similar story to repeat itself during the next halving as well.
1189  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-11] Chinese Congresswoman: ‘PBOC Should be Responsible for Bitcoin AML’ on: March 13, 2017, 05:09:10 AM
There is only so much you can regulate on decentralized network. Exchanges have nothing to do with bitcoin just as supermarkets have nothing to do with products they sale.
The part you can control is the distribution of the product. But how can you regulate internet not to distribute bitcoin? You can't just as you cant stop people from sending email or running mail server.

I guess they are more worried about people laundering Chinese Yuan. That can be checked to a certain extent if they have access to the identity of people depositing/ withdrawing from the exchanges. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese government (like the US) asked for a data dump from the exchanges.
1190  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stop buying! on: March 11, 2017, 10:45:05 AM
Let it bottom out first!!!!

Some pretty bad advice.  Grin
The market did drop, but it seems to have bottomed out very quickly. The ETF rejection doesn't seem to have had any significant impact.
1191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 11, 2017, 10:38:17 AM
I find it strange that they did not accept the ETF because they could not regulate every bit of it.
How do they regulate all of the gold in the world for the GLD ETF?

They just think they do. Just because there are multiple ways of checking gold's price does not mean that the market cannot be manipulated.
The SEC is just living in a fool's world.
1192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Small Bitcoin dump 03/10/17 on: March 11, 2017, 10:33:22 AM
It dumped so fast, I dont know what will happen next. But maybe it will recover soonest, others are speculating that price will be worse though. And, we know other people are ready for the outcome of this dump and pump scheme.

It was obvious that the ETF will be denied, but many people here we creating hyip  and false expectations that it would be approved and the bitcoin price will be $5000 after one week.
I only regret that i didn`t sold my bitcoins at $1250,but i`m not a speculator anyway.

Yes, it was really obvious that ETF will be denied and the price will go down. I have sold have of my Bitcoin at the peak of the surge, just waiting for the lowest point to buy some.

You might have to just keep waiting. The price is at $1180 levels, which is not too different from what it was yesterday (pre-announcement). It is possible that the crash and the bounce back have already happened.
1193  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-10]SEC rejects Winklevoss twins’ plan to trade Bitcoin as stock on: March 11, 2017, 10:23:18 AM
If they don't know how to monitor it properly due to Bitcoin's unregulated nature, it basically means that none of the following ETF's will be approved. It's funny how they talk about monitoring as there are plenty of ETF's that have gone down and resulted in investors to lose millions. Where was the SEC in these cases? If they really were monitoring the markets as they claim, it would have been avoided. It's pure nonsense. They just don't want to see Bitcoin become even bigger.

That is correct. Although there are 2 other ETFs waiting approval, we can safely say that they will be rejected. It will take some more time before the regulators come around to realizing that Bitcoin is a unique asset class and all market participants must have access to it.
1194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So no one cares about ETF decision, right? on: March 11, 2017, 10:20:24 AM
We haven't seen any huge downfall (as expected) after the decision of ETF. Do you think that we as bitcoin users have not paid any value to the ETF's decision?

Water off a duck's back. When the price dipped down briefly, all people saw was a massive buying opportunity.
The doomsday prophets have been proven wrong.

Interested in exploring community's opinion about it. Bears must be disappointed because they lost the chance to short for huge points.

I heard of one bear who made a 50x short and lost all his money. That was because the price went up to #1325 and wiped him out, before it started crashing.  Grin
1195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ETF POLL APPROVAL / REJECTION on: March 06, 2017, 04:22:41 PM
I think it will be rejected. The SEC will play safe this time around.
PS - The decision will come only on March 13, which is a Monday.
1196  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-06]Will the Big Three allow bitcoin withdrawal in March? on: March 06, 2017, 04:19:48 PM
I guess they will. You can't run an exchange if you don't allow your customers to withdraw their coins.
They should be back in business with enhanced anti-money laundering measures.
1197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Get ready to buy on: March 05, 2017, 03:42:44 AM
You know that saying "buy low, sell high"?  Well, I have a feeling that we're not at a low price level anymore--but I don't have my crystal ball with me, and I could be wrong.  Plus Circle doesn't deal with bitcoin anymore, and I don't have an easy way to buy btc.  We could be at a relative low, but somehow I doubt it.

That argument is for the day traders. For Bitcoin, it is buy and hold.
We may be at a local maxima, but buy and trade will still get returns in the long run.
1198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin less evil than PayPal? on: March 05, 2017, 03:41:24 AM
Bitcoin just like PayPal has its strength and weaknesses but comparatively Bitcoin's strength outweighs its weakness unlike PayPal which is gradually gaining a notorious tag of being a scammers haven. I have no doubt that PayPal is popular and well known but Bitcoin is superior even though it's not well known.

I would say the biggest positive about Bitcoin is that there is no subjectivity or human interpretation involved. You may still get scammed, but it is more likely to be due to your mistakes rather than anything else.
1199  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-03-04]Why You Won’t Be Using Bitcoin in a US Casino Anytime Soon on: March 05, 2017, 03:35:23 AM
Actually, it is difficult to fathom country restrictions on online casinos. A US-based casino could easily incorporate an online casino and register it in Timbuktu. It then really doesn't make a difference.

1200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Learn from others mistakes. Hodl on: March 03, 2017, 02:34:58 PM
We cannot tell that to those who earn bitcoin like in signature campaigns here to pay their bills. I hope everyone hold as well because of the rise in price but its not true to others.

If somebody paid his last month's bills with bitcoin earnings, he is going to have a surplus this month.
You can at least hold the surplus for eternity.  Smiley
